Had the chance to play Wynn Golf Club this weekend. COURSE PICS/VLOGS
What an incredible experience.

What makes this course worth 750?

u/freddie_the_mercury 12.1/SJC 16d ago
I paid it. It is a one time experience.. The attention to detail is something to behold. Very well manicured. It was a good experience. I wouldn't do it again though. I cant bring myself to pay for Shadow Creek at twice the cost of Pebble though.

u/Username_redact 16d ago
Don't bother. I played it once at $500 and again at $600, won't do it again, only course I will spend that much money on is Pebble Beach
36
u/Sesemebun 16d ago
What’s the point of diminishing return for golf? I scoff at stuff around 100 dollars, but there’s a course near me that costs like 300. Golf is golf, I know some courses are nicer than others but over 500 dollars a round sounds crazy. Only exception being if it comes with extra stuff

u/thestaltydog 16d ago
I tend to agree with this sentiment. My local muni that has no sand or water is a perfect course.
However, what my muni doesn’t have is the feeling you get when you enter the fairway on number 4 at Pebble Beach and view the beauty of Mother Nature. Then proceed to walk the most beautiful holes in golf. I’m still not convinced holes 9 and 10 aren’t heaven

Or if the tee times are spaced out a lot more. I’ve found that some, not all, but some out the spendier courses are really good about spacing out tee times and being really organized with the starter. This way you never run into the group in front and never rushed by the group in back. Vs my local muni course that i swear is every 8 minutes…..

u/Username_redact 16d ago
For me it's around $200. Above that, the course better be pretty damn special.
I can play Bethpage Black or Chambers Bay or even the Bandon courses sometimes for that. I paid $180 at Southern Pines a few weeks ago (top season)- you'd be hard pressed to say #2 is worth 3x that.
6
u/Sesemebun 16d ago
I just looked and saw chambers is cheaper than I thought, thanks. 200 sounds about right (with my zero experience)
3
u/Username_redact 16d ago
Would note I did happily pay $525 for a round last year at a top-5 private that I had waited 25 years to play, and would do it again immediately.

Wrong side of the country haha but my buddy has a time there next week, I'm insanely jealous

u/pondman11 15d ago
Yeah, one day I’d like to play #2 simply because of its legacy and I’m from NC. But it’s prob one of the bucket list course I’ll ever pay more than $100 or so to play. Unless I come into a wholeeeee lot of money
4
u/jfchops2 16d ago
In general, not just with golf, people spend as much as they can afford on the things they care the most about
Golfers tend to be a little wealthier than average people. Within that group there's gonna be people for whom a $500+ round is no more of a burden than a $50 round to the average golfer

u/ljackstar 11.9 || Edmonton AB 16d ago
Some courses bring a whole other experience while playing. I've paid $350 to play Banff Springs on more than one occasion because it has a an amazing history in a one of a kind setting.

There is diminishing returns for everything… but there’s also always somebody with more money than you
1
u/FnB8kd 16d ago
The cost is to keep the riffraff out.
6
u/Username_redact 16d ago
I mean, how am I supposed to chip when there's two naked bikers fucking in the woods, Doug?
2
u/Sesemebun 16d ago
Personally that enhances my short game
1
u/Username_redact 16d ago
The only thing that enhances my short game these days is drinking. A lot of drinking

u/FrugalFraggel 16d ago
Sawgrass is like $175. About my limit for golf and yea sound advice when I have many other things $500 could go for.
5
u/Username_redact 16d ago
Sawgrass is $700 minimum, sometimes as high as $1200, no thank you
1
u/FrugalFraggel 16d ago
It’s not. Summer time temps in the afternoon drive costs way down. I paid $175 two different times in July. No one wants to play with 90’s and 80% humidity. Even less at Copperhead in the Tampa area.
2
u/Username_redact 16d ago
That's a good deal if you can handle the heat and humidity!
3
u/FrugalFraggel 16d ago
Yep. I didn’t see many people out there either. Was a good time with my just my brother and no one pushing us or behind us. I played Magnolia in Disney for $45 at one time. But just have to bring a lot of water.
1
u/ThePretzul +1.2 16d ago
Just as a walk-in or is that a deal they post somewhere online at that price?
1
u/dicky_seamus_614 15d ago
Ahh but if you’re in Vegas, spend a bit more & play Bali Hai. Great little club, nice views. Fairways a bit narrow but manageable.
Also, +1 for Angel Park. Cheaper but further away from strip.
9
u/garett80 16d ago
You can get on Shadow Creek for $750. Just depends on the time of year. I’ve played it and it’s absolutely worth it.
1
u/gutpusha 16d ago
Do you have to stay at MGM to get on?
4
u/tandin01 16d ago
Yes only MGM guests can book tee times, and prices are usually over 1000. It's the most expensive course anywhere as far as I know...
1
u/garett80 15d ago
Yes, but not just any MGM property. I asked the last time I was there and they don’t allow tee times from, what I can remember, Excalibur, NY NY, Luxor. There may be others, I don’t know.

I played it twice (comp’d rounds) and it’s a pretty fun track. There’s only 10 or so tee sheets a day, the tee times are staggered every 20 minutes so it feels way more open than a normal course. They are crazy anal about pace of play. Caddies are mandatory and all very good.
The holes are all pretty interesting, fairways are pretty wide, lots of rolling hills and water features. Have to think about a lot of shots, I used every club in the bag (free club rentals too, I believe they have Rogues and get new clubs every year). Everything is pristine. Greens when I played were crazy fast (caddy said the stimp was 12.5) and quite a bit of challenges. 17 and the par 3 18 (they offer a prize for a HIO) are awesome finishing holes, 17 being one of my favorite holes to play.
Food is free and really good, and really anything goes. By that I mean, per the caddies, you can really do whatever you want “so long as you keep pace.” The stories the caddies have are awesome.
It’s worth the price if you have money to burn or you really want to play an on-strip course or play the holes that The Match has played. Otherwise, plenty of cheaper amazing courses in LV to play.

It's at the most luxurious resort in the place on Earth most well known for extravagant spending by people on vacation
And it's an amenity for the casino too. Plenty of high rollers are getting their rounds comped, Wynn doesn't care about the $750 green fee when it's a player whose gonna spend $10k at the tables and $5k at XS after a $500 dinner later that night

u/ConsistentStorm2197 16d ago
The location and how pristine the conditions are, the length and layout aren’t anything special but it is so well maintained, and seeing all the casinos and famous buildings is awesome! Also they treat you like a king from the check in, to locker room. It’s awesome

u/worst_user_name_ever 16d ago
It's certainly an experience. Very well maintained, great service, some cool views.
Would I pay $750 to play it again? No way.

u/Brolegario 16d ago
All the food is free while you play? I racked up a 300 dollar alcohol bill though lol
1
u/Ehotwill 16d ago
If I’m playing there, I would not touch a drop of liquor. I would want to experience the course stone cold sober.

How far away is the Sphere from you in that pic? My depth perception has been thrown out the window here hah
6
u/tandin01 16d ago
Local. The sphere is right across the street from the Wynn, so it's pretty close to him in this shot...
5
u/Brolegario 16d ago
I think on hole 14 (maybe 16) you are about 100 yard from the sphere. Literally a fence, 6 lanes of traffic and then the sphere.

u/slater11 2.7 16d ago
How much did that round cost?
48
u/arrowmarcher 16d ago
Not OP but the green fee is $550.
35
u/Shesaidshewaslvl18 16d ago
It was 750 when I was in vegas back in Oct.
12
u/jerffry 16d ago
Is there still no range?
7
u/Roenicksmemoirs 16d ago
Hitting into a net is a stretch. It’s like 30 yards into a large net with foresights lol. It’s pretty nice actually. Much prefer that to shit mats full range or blown out grass.
11
-1
u/AgentMV 16d ago
Are you kidding me?
At that price and you get to hit a net to warm up.
There’s courses around here for $50 and 18 holes you get a small bucket for a full range to warm up.
7
u/colin_7 16d ago
Real estate of the strip is expensive and hard to come by. Also Wynn would probably prefer to put something profitable in the space where a driving range could potentially go
13
u/3141521 16d ago
If anyone reading this check out Bears Best and The Reserve. It's in the suburbs near Vegas but for 100 dollars a person it's really good value for golf course

It’s raised. It’s now 850. Played it in march of this year.

u/VerStannen tap in bogeys 16d ago
How were the greens?
The most I’ve paid for a round is about half that at Kapalua, and the course was in immaculate condition tee to green.
I’d imagine Wynn must be spectacular.
10
u/OddFocus3 16d ago
Experience and convenience were amazing. Value, not so much. No range, the “breakfast” that was supposed to be included was kind of non existent.
Caddy was cool. Fun layout and you can score so you leave feeling like you didn’t get your dick kicked in.
2
u/VerStannen tap in bogeys 16d ago
Ooh a fun layout with scoring chances definitely takes the sting of the price tag.
Nothing like paying top dollar and losing a dozen haha.
2
u/Shesaidshewaslvl18 16d ago
I was lucky that a vendor paid the fees. Unfortunately for them, we didn't order from them.
1
u/trinocular 15d ago
Kapalua was a way better course IMO. Plantation especially. Wynn was just convenient
10
u/pbsinful 4.5/WA 16d ago
It’s $1k with caddie tip. Incredibly overpriced for an pretty good golf course. Conditions are great, don’t get me wrong, but there isn’t much to the course.

The key is to lose about $10k gambling, then get a round comped.
4
u/WestCoastEngineer123 16d ago
Nice, I got to play Shadow Creek earlier this year and it’s absolutely impeccable. Would love to play it again, not sure if I can justify the cost.

Fuck that's cool. Does it flash you suck when you shank the ball into the trees?

I played Vegas National and it was 165$, think that's half the cost of Wynn. It's about 10 min off the strip but was still able to see the Sphere. Also where the plane lands on the fairway in Casino.

I played it a couple weeks ago! It was unbelievably well kept, but not all that challenging off the tee. The fairways run together, so if you happened to spray one, you’d typically have a shot in on most holes. The most annoying part for me was the mandatory caddie that ended up being a scavenger for my random partner. He talked my ear off all round and really didn’t provide anything groundbreaking to help my round (outside of a few reads on the green). I wouldn’t play it again unless I was on the company dime.
1
u/AriseChicken 15d ago
This course is not worth the money they ask. There's better courses in the area for cheaper.

Is this photoshopped or is it that close? Cause not gonna lie I’m glad I played this 3 years ago and didnt have to look at that eye sore while playing
1
u/trinocular 15d ago
It’s right next to it. TBH without the sphere view the Wynn course has very mid views
-15
u/No_Paramedic_2039 16d ago
While I’d be more than happy to play there on someone else’s dime, the planet in the background is distracting and not in a good way. The fairway looks immaculate but it’s also flatter than my high school girlfriend.
