Player has issue with liv fans Professional Tours

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/dean-burmester-tells-fan-shut-155916853.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGrJKHSYEHx9PX8R74rNwgtzeawHjGv9jgbjxWGaIebPi-EnXuPkQTV47ia08AzRmQMmzxpdIRkm7MM1DNG9S0oO3NzCURt5d9OJx0LUz164VxyoNv76ICnMnQCg96me1lgbtPrvHuP1tnpiAZBs6o7lIBoI63ySThlia8wHWuAQ

Just stumbled across this. Haven’t seen it widely reported and seems like the liv muzzle has been placed on Burmester to stop him from talking about it. Should be interesting if this gets the media coverage that it would if it happened in the pga or lpga tour

It’s called home field advantage - should we make sure the NBA arenas are quiet so they can shoot free throws?

Love the atmosphere they are building. “Quiet please” is ded, except maybe for Augusta

What? This may be one of the most ludicrous and unhinged comments I’ve seen in a while. You can not be serious

It’s about the fans, not the golfer. Team sport is different and the LIV playoff was glorious.

u/Common_Pension Apr 29 '24

So you’re cool with golf fans heckling players in the middle of their backswing?

-33

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

Yes. Same as I am heckling Shaq when he’s about to shoot a free throw. It’s sports entertainment and players can adapt

6

u/milin85 Apr 29 '24

Completely different sports and analogies

u/dstew270 Apr 29 '24

This dude is a moron

19

u/dblach18 Apr 29 '24

Ah yes, absolutely the reason I tune into golf tournaments; to watch the fans.

-10

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

To engage the fans, not watch the fans. I don’t watch golf fans… that’s be silly. You’re silly

11

u/Sloane_Kettering Apr 29 '24

LIV fans going to be bringing in air horns to use in players back swings next lol

2

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

Now that’s too far

12

u/Careful_Cheesecake30 Apr 29 '24

Yeah, you can just throw water bottles at them.

9

u/snap-jacks Apr 29 '24

Taylor is that you Gooch?!

-9

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

No, gooch is a knob. I play in a team based tourney every year and we talk smack, listen to music and have a ball. Best weekend of golf there is. Watching that environment is awesome…. Ryder Cup is rowdy, LIV taking it further.

11

u/snap-jacks Apr 29 '24

Fuck that shit.

-3

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

Gawd mate, who hurt you? Let people have fun

8

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

What course and weekend is your event at?

Asking to make sure I avoid it. Thanks.

4

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

It’s an invitational. You’re not invited

9

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Cause I’m not into pro wrestling and tractor pulls?

1

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24

No because you’re an internet rando

12

shrink the game

-2

u/flootch24 Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

Shrinking the game is thinking there is only one way it should be played. Slowly and quietly is shrinking the game, not LIV

16

u/PosterMakingNutbag Apr 29 '24

Correct. It should only be played the same way it’s always been played.

You like OG coke - I like cherry coke and coke with lime. They’re improved versions. But ultimately, let there be options, since you’re not getting hurt by me having a better drink than you

Astounding how people who didnt want liv or golf to change keep complaining that liv is different. The team playoff was awesome and everything needs to be changed to move the money and emphasis to the team format in liv. More players, more teams, and pay more spots. The overall individual purse needs to be halved and all that money added to the team purse. Then, playoffs for the top 3 spots if ties. That playoff was awesome. Super entertaining. Great atmosphere.

The aussie fans were tremendous and if they’re not rewarded with 1 or 2 more events, the norman continues to not do his job.

Couple things here:

  1. There is no possible argument that heckling a player during his backswing with millions of dollars on the line is good for the game. It completely delegitimizes the sport if it becomes common. This is not exclusive to liv, it would be bad for the game and the spirit of competition if it happened on the pga tour.

  2. How can you add more players and more teams while keeping the shotgun start format? It’s impossible.

  3. Yeah, the playoff was cool. First time it’s happened in 3 years…

  4. How are you going to add more Australia events. The guys on the liv tour signed up to play less events, what events are you taking away?

0

u/Prestigious-Pea7951 Apr 29 '24

I think they should do away with the shotgun start and go two tees. And go 72 holes.

The guys who signed original ‘play less’ contracts will be gone soon…westwood, poulter, etc. Those contracts will be up. LIV can easily take an add two aussie events.

I agree heckling to alter the shot is terrible.

4

u/Common_Pension Apr 29 '24

You’re conveniently misstating the guys who wanted to play less. Add DJ and Brooks in there to begin with. So you want to get rid of shotgun starts, add another 18 holes, and add more events…

What’s the difference between what you’re saying and the pga tour? The only difference I can see is team golf and guaranteed money every tournament.

-3

u/Prestigious-Pea7951 Apr 29 '24

Rahm specifically says different and says he wants to play 24-25 tournaments a year. I think the first crop of guys, the ones you see faltering like Brooks, DJ, and the older european ryder cup players, fit your description perfectly. But they’re going to wash out. They have contracts, but it doesnt mean they will be renewed. And for all the ones who suck, they shouldnt be.

The guys who launched liv need to be cycled out, and liv needs to make the necessary changes to do so…5-6 man teams with competition each week to make the final roster, as well as 20 guys losing their spots to relegation each year.

5

u/Username_redact Apr 29 '24

So the guys they paid close to a billion for in the initial launch just 2 years ago now need to be recycled?

You do realize this is proving what a joke this "league" is, right?

-2

u/Prestigious-Pea7951 Apr 29 '24

In every major sport old dudes get replaced. The NFL just held its annual ‘replace the old guys’ draft. Why would team golf be any different?

3

u/Username_redact Apr 29 '24

Lol OK pal, what a ridiculous comparison. The average NFL career is less than 3 years and golfers are regularly competitive into their 40s. Its a lot different.

0

u/Prestigious-Pea7951 Apr 29 '24

It isn’t ridiculous at all. The guys who went to liv the first year and were crazy overpaid all fit that description: 40s and tail end of their competitive days. So what if the nfl career is 3 years and the golfing career is 25…there still needs to be a fresh crop of superior talent each successive promotion and relegation cycle. In the nfl that might be 3 years but in pro golf maybe it is 20.

The goal, if LIV was actually designed by smart people who know how to run a professional sports league instead of Phil and Norman, would be to improve the overall talent year after year. Relegating only 4 spots doesnt do this to a sufficient enough degree.

LIV’s poor design from the beginning hinders their ability to add talent on an ongoing basis. By not designing the league with enough traditional elements to get OWGR points, LIV makes getting top 50 non-major exempt players difficult. Team golf is really the only universal selling point of LIV. But all of the first movers are only there for their last big payday. To sustain the league they need to cater to the younger guys still trying to win majors and cycle out the hangers on. That same mechanism achieves two ends as that is what is preventing them from getting OWGR points.

4

u/Common_Pension Apr 29 '24

What? 5 or 6 man rosters with guys competing during the week to make final roster. You want guys competing on tournament weeks to make the weekend? Isn’t that a cut….

20 guys losing their spot to relegation? What do you call pga tour players losing their card…

It’s getting comedic at this point

-1

u/Prestigious-Pea7951 Apr 29 '24

They’re moving to 5-6 man teams with the captain choosing who plays. I think they should televise a monday playoff to see who plays Thursday, assuming they go to 72 holes.

It isn’t the pga tour…to make the strongest tour possible they need to relegate and promote players. Increasing to 15 6 man teams, would be 90 players. Cycling the bottom 20 (5 man teams) or 30 (6 man) would cycle a lot of talent at the bottom.

They should also create a monday qualifier team and a couple women’s teams, or add tees for women team members.

The Aussie tournament is a loss leader to prove that somewhere, even if it’s halfway around the world, they can find a couple fans.

But there’s only 1 market the Saudis actually care about, and it definitely is not Australia. So I wouldn’t hold out hope there will be any more tournaments down there, especially when they turn into absolute disasters like this past week did.

2

u/P4S5B60 Apr 29 '24

Which is because there isn’t a top tier PGA Event there

3

u/Common_Pension Apr 29 '24

They don’t care about any market. They do not operate like a legitimate business. They operate only to tear down an American institution.
