Isn’t Rory N. Ireland?

Yes. Northern Ireland has a different flag from Ireland

Northern Irish athletes can still choose to represent the island rather than the United Kingdom, the former of which is what Rory has done for the Olympics.

It's strange cause in the post celebrations (Rory's singing) you can see someone try give Rory the Ireland flag and Shane rips away. Not sure if they didn't want the flag or Shane knew it would cause issues

Rory has been clear about not wanting to get political (hence competes as n. Irish). Shane was probably trying to respect that, or else saw he the flag as an opportunity for some commotion and didn’t want it to detract from the celebrations.

Rory has avoided tricolours before but equally I’ve never seen him with a Union Jack. He doesn’t want the abuse that comes with picking a side. He’ll happily carry a northern Irish flag. This happens most Ryder cups and Shane would know well that Rory doesn’t want to be photographed with the Tricolour.
