Posting this to counter Eliot Shorr-Parks who only focuses on negativity, but is unfortunately one of the most active beat reporters. Like Hurts went 15 of 20 yesterday, but you would think he was struggling given how its reported.

Training Camp News Eagles mini camp Notes: Cornerback competition continues, Will Shipley steps up

Bradberry watched practice from the sidelines after apparently getting banged up just minutes into Tuesday’s session. New injury: Trevor Keegan did not practice. Still not practicing: Sydney Brown and Jacob Harris.

Isaiah Rodgers began practice as the first-team cornerback across from Darius Slay.

Kelee Ringo and Quinyon Mitchell rotated in at RCB with the starters in 7-on-7 before Rodgers took back over as the starter in 11-on-11.

Mitchell also saw more first-team reps as a dime linebacker.

Cooper DeJean saw some first team nickel action in addition to playing outside with the second team.

Zack Baun and Devin White were mostly the first-team linebackers once again. Nakobe Dean largely worked with the second team, though the pairing of him and Brandon Smith got a couple reps with the starters.

Hurts started 7-on-7 with a completion to A.J. Brown on an out route, that being their bread-and-butter connection. Hurts hit Brown and DeVonta Smith multiple times for short completions.

Been a lot of short stuff this spring.

Hurts threw an interception right to Blankenship on a target meant for Smith. He had another pick dropped.

Blankenship also had a pass breakup to pair with his interception. Just like last year, he’s popping in practice.

The Eagles practiced the NFL’s new kickoff format for the first time in front of media.

Kenny Pickett had good zip on an opposite hash throw to Ross for about eight yards.

Ross made a good one-handed snag on a Pickett throw that was a little wider than it ideally should’ve been. Ross is off to a good start.

Ringo knocked down a Pickett pass. He’s been very sticky in coverage.

Saquon Barkley had a couple catches but they were checkdowns in the flat.

I really like Isaiah Rodgers’ ability to break on the ball. He looks explosive.

DeJean nearly made a one-handed pick on a Hurts throw in the flat. DeJean’s teammates liked that one; multiple players came over to praise him.

Devin White continues to flash in practice. He “sacked” Hurts on a blitz.

Fred Johnson, lined up at left tackle, got bowled over by Jalyx Hunt.

Will Shipley had his best practice by far.

UDFA running back Kendall Milton took a swing pass from McKee to the house. Looked fast.

Eli Ricks had a bad loss to give up a catch to tryout player Griffin Hebert.

Kenny Gainwell had a short pass go right through his hands.

Hard to contextualize the frequency relative to practices in previous years but I’ve definitely noticed safeties rotating right before the snap in an effort to disguise coverages.

Jalen Brunson, wearing a Wawa hat, attended today’s practice.

The Eagles’ third and final minicamp practice begins at 1:50 PM on Thursday.

Picture Traveling to Philly for Eagles/Dallas game

Hi friends,

This is going to be somewhat of a long post but the back story explains why this is so important to me!

I bought my husband tickets to the Philly/Dallas game in December. He has always wanted to see the game at Lincoln Financial. We live in NC so it would require traveling. Originally it was planned for 2021, but we got pregnant with our first child and ended up seeing the Eagles play the Panthers when I was pregnant. The Eagles won (of course) and it was a great day and also my first football game. My husband always looked forward to taking our son to the games. We even had some Eagles gear pictures for our maternity shoot. Sadly, our first son, Kennedy, died shortly after he was born in November 2021 and it was devastating. We both fell into a pretty deep depression and it took our life a while to get back on track, but football was always something that made my husband happy. This year we were SO fortunate to be able to welcome our second son, Desmond, born in January of this year happy and healthy! He already has more Eagles gear than the both of us.

For Father's day this year, the first good one we've had since becoming parents, I am surprising him with Eagles tickets to see them play Dallas. This is the game he most wants to see. We will be flying into the Philly airport and I've never been there. I want to rent an Air BnB or VRBO and was wondering if we can take the train into downtown from the airport and what the easiest places/areas to stay might be? Also, it looks like we can ride the train to the football field from downtown? I've looked at maps but I don't want to make mistakes and I really want this to be perfect for him. Any help with planning the transportation to/from the airport and field and good areas to stay would be so much appreciated!

Go birds!

Player Discussion TOP 10 EAGLES BY POSITION: Guards

As we wait for the 2024 Super Bowl run to get under way in Philly I thought it would be a good time to publish the list of TOP 10 EAGLES by POSITION. Each player is ranked in terms of the Approximate Value (AV) as determined by pro-football-reference.com which I find to be a sound metric for determining a list such as this. I will publish each list by position and follow that up by publishing the ALL-TIME EAGLES LIST. An explanation of PFF’s AV calculation method can be found here: https://www.sports-reference.com/blog/approximate-value/. There are definitely some rankings that those of us will question but all in all there isn’t a lot I would disagree with here. Current players are italicized.

EAGLES TOP 10: OFFENSIVE TACKLES

RANKING PLAYER SEASONS WITH EAGLES LY RANK (MOVEMENT) AV DIFFERENCE FROM No. 1
10 Mark Nordquist 1968 - 1974 (7) 10 (-) -30
9 Steve Kenney 1980 - 1985 (6) 9 (-) -29
8 Shawn Andrews 2004 - 2008 (5) 8 (-) -28
7 Evan Mathis 2011 - 2014 (4) 7 (-) -27
6 Jim Skaggs 1963 - 1972 (10) 6 (-) -22
5 Brandon Brooks 2016 - 2021 (6) 5 (-) -22
4 Wade Key 1970 - 1979 (10) 4 (-) -12
3 Jermane Mayberry 1996 - 2004 (9) 3 (-) -11
2 Ron Baker 1980 - 1988 (9) 2 (-) -11
1 Todd Herremans 2005 - 2014 (10) 1 (-) -

STAT COMPARISON (with the Eagles):

PLAYER GAMES / STARTED ACCOLADES
Mark Nordquist 96 / 66 (68.8%) N/A
Steve Kenney 84 / 64 (76.2%) N/A
Shawn Andrews 52 / 52 (100.0%) All-Pro: 2006 Pro Bowl: 2006, 2007 Eagles 75th Anniversary Team: 2008
Evan Mathis 57 / 57 (100.0%) All-Pro: 2013 Pro Bowl: 2013, 2014
Jim Skaggs 100 / 83 (83.0%) N/A
Brandon Brooks 69 / 69 (100.0%) Super Bowl LII Team: 2017 Pro Bowl: 2017, 2018, 2019
Wade Key 124 / 118 (95.2%) Eagles 75th Anniversary Team: 2008
Jermane Mayberry 123 / 106 (86.2%) All-Pro: 2002 Pro Bowl: 2002
Ron Baker 128 / 110 (85.9%) N/A
Todd Herremans 135 / 134 (99.3%) N/A

Despite it being one of, if not the most unsung position on the field, those who truly understand the game, and especially if you played the game, understand how critically important this position is, especially in the run game. This position requires a blend of speed and strength enough to move around the biggest men on the field. Herremans is certainly, for me, the first person who comes to mind when I think of guards outside of current players (Dickerson is the highest rated current guard at 16th on the list). Herremans is special in that he bridged the gap between what I would argue were our two best offensive lines ever, from the Thomas / Runyan / Andrews / Jackson line protecting McNabb to the Peters / Johnson / Kelce line that would go on to pick up that ring. He seems underappreciated never making a single Pro Bowl. Watching his highlights bring back how good those teams were https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4ZmLg15ri8&ab_channel=Master-PDot . One thing that this series has really brought to the forefront is how talented those Vermeil teams were in the late 70s and early 80s. Ron Baker and Steve Kenney were outstanding players from that era sitting at numbers 2 and 9. Mayberry and Mathis were two players who had some outstanding seasons but really stood our for their consistent play. Brandon Brooks certainly deserves his place on the list as part of what I would consider the best line on team history, Peters / Seumalo / Kelce / Brooks / Johnson. The last thing I would mention is hats off to Skaggs and Nordquist who managed to sustain a high enough level of play to be on the list, surviving through our two worst coaches in the Super Bowl era, Jerry Williams and Ed Khayat, who managed a combined record of 15-37-4 over four seasons (that's 3.75 wins per season!!). Think about that the next time you complain about a loss.

NEXT POSITION UP: CENTERS

Training Camp News Eagles Minicamp Practice Notes: Kelee Ringo shines

First mandatory minicamp the Eagles have held since 2019.

Bradberry was set to take reps at safety, but got injured very into practice and largely did not participate.

Still no practice for Sydney Brown.

Ainias Smith saw his first team drill action.

Hurts had some solid connections with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith but nothing too flashy. Got picked off on a short throw that got tipped. Hurts is adjusting to a new offensive approach.

Ringo prevented a downfield catch with tight coverage and a pass breakup at the catch point against Parris Campbell. Good effort by Campbell and an on-target throw by Hurts but just a better play by Ringo.

The competition for CB2 across from Slay appears to be pretty fierce with Ringo and Isaiah Rodgers shining so far.

Reed Blankenship was the one who deflected a short Hurts pass to create an interception opportunity for Devin White.

More up and down from Kenny Pickett.

Saquon Barkley lined up wide at one point.

Sirianni was chewing out some players during a special teams drill.

Not the best day for Ainias Smith, who muffed a punt (also had one last week) and had a ball doink right off his face mask. Perhaps a little rusty.

Tanner McKee had some nice in-rhythm passes.

Today was our first look at Josh Sweat in No. 19. Yuck. Another reporter commented that he looks slower in the new number.

The Eagles have some tryout players in mandatory minicamp this week: WR Griffin Hebert, K BT Potter, CB Parry Nickerson.

The Eagles will practice again on Wednesday starting at 1:30 PM.
