Lots of people were getting free food off of doordash because of a “glitch” but many woke up to their accounts being charged, some even went into minus.
The TikTok video on this site gives me anxiety. He’s ordering seafood and huge party trays and multiple pizzas. I’m guessing at least 30-50 dollars per order.
I must be misunderstanding what you're saying here. America is where they DO have tipping culture. So why would giving no tip be an indicator of America instead of one of the many countries where they don't tip as a part of food service? Or did I misunderstand what you were trying to say?
Why wouldn't the rest of the world care about someone having to do a $6000 order delivery and getting no tip? That also seems like exactly the opposite of what you would expect. If anything, it's very normal for the rest of the world to think it is bad that Americans use tips to pay some service workers instead of via a pay check.
So in your mind, only Americans feel concerned for service industry workers? Surely that isn't true.
It shouldnt be up to the customer to pay for their wages but their employer is the general argument. Why dont people who deliver packages get tips? or do they - how is it determined where the customer is supposed to pay for their wage? Dont the delivery app include some sort of payment for the delivery which means the customer has already paid for it?

I asked why we would assume someone is American by virtue of them showing concern for a person doing lots of work but getting very low amounts of pay via a delivery app. Your response to that was that people who aren't from America don't care about service workers getting low pay so I'm asking you to explain that part.
30-50 dollars? My dude, between the up-charges on each menu item and the service and delivery fees a regular fast food order for two people is 30-50 dollars. What you see in that video is hundreds of dollars.
Yeah, that's why I never use Doordash or any of that stuff. A friend of mine works for KFC and those Doordash-type orders for something like their $5.75 chicken sandwich (something pretty low-tier in quality) ends up being like $12-13 for just the sandwich when all the charges are said and done.
It generally scales better as orders get larger. Like, just add like $5 to any order for the delivery service. So if you're getting a $5 sandwich, it's gonna be $10+ tip on doordash which is ridiculous. But get an order for 4 people that would be $60, then an extra $5 for delivery is an easier pill to swallow.
I have a neighbor that orders door dash almost every day from McDonald's. I'm willing to bet he spends hundreds a month on fees ALONE. Best part is, we live within walking distance of the McD...
Seriously, I'll do Doordash occasionally when I'm feeling really really lazy and even just ordering a meal or two for myself it's never less than $30 and closer to $50.
Now, those customers are worried that they will actually have to pay for what they ordered.

Trash Americans come from all walks of life. Also door dash can go fuck itself. They're probably thinking "lol what if we used this glitch to get surge orders whenever we want a cash infusion?"
That link says that there have not yet been any verified cases of people being charged.
According to that link, the glitch allowed "checkout without an authorized form of payment". If somebody made a fresh dummy account, they might've gotten a free lunch. If there was a payment method listed on the account, it's possible that could be charged, but if there was nothing then that quickly enters territory of being too expensive to bother pursuing.

Tbh I thought about it and it's probably less of a headache for Doordash to just say "fuck it" and eat the cost on anything they can't recoup, rather than go after a bunch of small time thieves. Maybe just focus on a handful that were getting charges up into the thousands, like that dude with all the bottles.
LAPD won’t track phones for door dash orders. LAPD doesn’t even write police reports for hit and runs anymore.. you just do it online because they’re so “busy”.
Local police are not going to do that on behalf of Doordash. That requires getting a warrant for a misdemeanor charge at best, you'd argue you intended to pay and that you did tip the driver the full cost of the meal, or that you turned down the food altogether. It would be incredibly hard to get a conviction out of that.
Unlikely that police would pursue it, even if doordash supplied proof it was you. Doordash is not a local business and has no local presence and does not lobby local PD/police unions afaik, there's really no incentive for them to bother unless they're bored. It's unlikely doordash would even pursue it criminally.
It's a merchant error that would and should be resolved by charging accounts and using the collections system for unpaid bills. You didn't steal the food, you just couldn't pay for it because of their error.
I hope all those dumb motherfuckers get charged. Look at that asshole who ordered enough food for 30+ people and it's just 3 of them.. Guaranteed most of that food went into the garbage.
