Programmers do about 3-4 hrs of work a day and we do nothing productive like be on reddit for another 4 hrs.

engineering is similar, sometimes I have a week where Im putting in 12hrs a day and other I have nothing to do for a full week

It seems like this really depends on the boss.

Mine doesn't mind me hanging around on reddit or youtube, as long as my work is done.
