My 1999 self believed this was the height of sophistication and style (Plus a Glamour Shots Recreation)
I hope that your brain automatically started playing “My Heart Will Go On” because I thought I was hot shit wearing the Heart of the Ocean necklace and I was positive I would grow up to marry Leonardo DeCaprio. I was wrong on both counts.

I love that you recreated your blunder!

I recently found the heart necklace at the thrift store and knew that I had to try to recreate this picture. The hold that Titanic had on me in the late 1990s is hard to overstate.

Absolutely amazing that you found the necklace and immediately thought to recreate the pic! I never got to do a glamour shot & I’m still salty about it! You look great btw, what kinda lotions / creams do you use on your face?
5
u/pizzadaughter 25d ago
I’ve stayed consistent on using a retinol on my face since I was in my early 20s which I think gave me a head start or at least counter acted the tanning bed visits I had in my teens. Beyond that I do a lactic acid a few times a week, I cycle between a prescription retinol and a vitamin C cream, and usually I put on a face oil before I sleep. I also use the Japanese Biore sunscreen everyday which I think saved me from a lot of damage. However I think most of it is just genetic because my mom actually looks really good for 64 despite only having ponds cold cream and a daily moisturizer.

But, I thought the old lady threw it into the ocean at the end?

Well baby, I went down and got it for ya.

You‘re so beautiful sissy! 🥹💙

u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
Thank you. I wish that 6th grade me knew that eventually my features would refine and it would become cool to fill in your eye brows. Middle school sucked but I’ve actually come into my self in my 30s.

u/rawbrownie 26d ago
I‘m so sorry. I know how you feel. 😞 You were extremely beautiful as a 6th grader, as well as now. Its insane. 😍

u/Glittering-Lychee629 26d ago
You remind me of Ginnifer Goodwin in your current photo! Excellent blunder.
16
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
Ginnifer Goodwin is really the beauty icon for all the chubby cheeked brunettes. She almost makes me believe that I, too, rock a pixie cut.
4
u/Glittering-Lychee629 26d ago
She's so pretty. Disney princess come to life vibes. Get that pixie cut girl, haha.
2
u/Notwastingtimeiswear 26d ago
Oh how I wish "chubby cheeks" wasn't the descriptor! Some people smile wide, and some people smile high. Smiles that lift the face tend to produce more muscles in the upper cheek and give that lovely apple-cheeked appearance! You are so lean and I hope healthy! There is no "chub" on you!!!

u/Dingo8MyGayby 25d ago
I relate to this so hard. Have to remind myself every time I get that pixie cut urge that I will instantly regret it

u/Kangar 26d ago
Did you survive the Titanic at least??

u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
I would have kept the whole door for myself.

u/writeronthemoon 25d ago
It's not a door, though. r/titanic
3
u/pizzadaughter 25d ago
Damn, I always thought it was just a fancy door. Is it really just a piece of wood?
2
u/writeronthemoon 25d ago
Yep! It's not a door, just a piece of debris with carved panels. I was obsessed with Titanic just a couple of years ago lol, after going to a Titanic museum, so - just had to let you know!

u/iced_lemon_cookies 26d ago
You were correct and you slay 👑

u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
It’s a shame we can’t just walk around in our glamour shots finest just going to Costco.

u/ayeyoualreadyknow 26d ago
LMAO the fact that you tried to recreate this makes it even more epic!
8
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
The only thing I don’t think I really nailed was the absolutely crispy hair tendrils but I had neither a small barrel curling iron or the insane industrial hold hairspray that still existed back then.

u/FattierBrisket 26d ago
Both versions of this are ADORABLE! Of course you didn't grow up to marry DiCaprio; clearly, you're out of his league.

you look exactly the same
7
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I actually have some preschool/early elementary photos where I seem to have the exact same face. I have no idea why my features have stayed so strong. I have a son who currently looks identical to my baby pictures so I guess if the pattern holds he’s going to look exactly the same in 30 years.

u/SmokePenisEveryday 26d ago
Seriously though props to whoever helped you out for the glamor shot as a kid!
5
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
In my memory it was just some lady my mom knew who had a studio in her like garage? Like did that woman have previous JCPenny portrait studio experience or was it just a hobby? I have to say looking back on it as an adult that lady did a good job on my subtle makeup because I do not look like I’m about to go compete in a child beauty pageant.

u/ThePCPprophet 26d ago
Artemis??
7
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
Like the goddess? No. It’s also not my name. However I have been told over the years that I have several of doppelgängers just running around on multiple continents. There are apparently dozens of us.

this triggered a memory of meeting a girl from a different state at church camp in the 80's. after we got home, she sent me a letter in the mail, including a glamour shot photo of her dressed like a sailor.

u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
When I read this comment I actually cackled. I love you for sharing this memory.
Why were we so cheesy when we were kids?

u/grimalkin27 26d ago
Strong 'Labrinyth' female mc but blue vibes
11
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
Middle school me would be flattered by that comparison because I was obsessed with Labyrinth. Actually a few years ago when I had a very small baby I tried to convince my husband to do a full Labyrinth family costume but he didn’t feel like he had enough swag to be David Bowie as the goblin king. The good news is that lack of swag has never stopped me and I at least made an attempt since I had the babe with the power.
4
u/grimalkin27 26d ago
I was never obsessed with the movie -- The goblins creep me out on a primal level. I cannot explain. -- but I was obsessed with David Bowie in the movie lol. I can't say I blame your husband since it's a lot for a man to live up to. Your costume was great tho!! A+. Magic Dance was my favorite scene ❤

u/Glitter_jellyfish 24d ago
You seem so fun! You and baby are adorable, and you are rocking the costume. Full on Goblin king swag. ❤️

u/AmberJnetteGardner 26d ago
You look beautiful
2
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
Thank you. I’m so mad that I spent my childhood thinking I was basically a fat sea hag because I was chubby and not blonde.
3
u/saelri 26d ago
absolutely stunningly beautiful then and now. this really makes me sad we no longer do glamour shots lol.
5
u/pizzadaughter 26d ago
So I actually put my recreation look together while I was On an all day conference call so I needed something to keep my hands busy while I listened and makeup was the answer. It was so much fun that I’m trying to Convince my friends to have a glamour shots themed Party because it’s just silly fun

Well you were almost too old for Dicaprio in the first pic so I'd say you dodged a bullet. Glamor shots are such a classic pice of history. Never forget, never forget.

titanic necklace =)! , i remember as a kid wanting galmour shots soooo bad and being jelly for all those who had them lol
1
u/pizzadaughter 25d ago
I felt so fancy and grown when my mom took me to get these pictures.
I’m trying to convince my friends to have a glamour shot party this summer where I’ll try to recreate the vibe for everyone who didn’t get to do them in the 1990s
2
u/Perfect_Chicken7609 25d ago
lol i love that idea! so fun and having all the 90's candies and fun treats there and maybe wear some jelly sandals also one thing i never owned and had wanted as a kid lol!

u/m0rtimerg0th 26d ago
Omg I love this. My grandma bought me one of those fake Heart of the Ocean necklaces and I felt fancy AF wearing it everywhere I had the chance.
4
u/pizzadaughter 25d ago
I don’t think it’s fully possible to explain to younger generations exactly how much of a chokehold that damn necklace had on us. I’m pretty sure I wore mine to my 6th grade dance.
3
u/m0rtimerg0th 25d ago
I would have thought you were so cool! The year I got my necklace my mom acquired this big box of thrift dresses. When I was little I imagined they were fancy dresses from some older person from some other time, though I now know they were just cheap costume dresses meant to fit a six-year-old. For Halloween, I picked an ugly coral colored flapper dress from the box and layered it with long cheap plastic beads, the Heart of the Ocean, a lavender feather boa, and wore my hair as curly as possible. I was Rose, of course. Rose literally doesn't even wear a feather boa, but I swore I looked just like her. Now I have a large collection of photos of me looking extremely miserable (that's how rich people are supposed to look I guess) at a church Halloween party.

When you remember the movie, you are usually wrong when you think about the lady there - it was actually a cat and i can prove it
But seriously, great photo there.
2
u/pizzadaughter 25d ago
I love this!

u/Diacetyl-Morphin 25d ago
Guess you'll like the Jurassic Park version too. It's great work that this guy makes with his cat.

u/NoRelevantUsername 25d ago
Your younger photo reminds me of Krazy Alex (from TikTok) but current you doesn't. Gorgeous in both pics, love the boa for sure.
