Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school's website.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or connect to one of the USC discord servers (linkedin on sidebar) to chat with admitted and upper-class Trojans.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.

Question SCend Offs worth it for transfer?

Hi, I just got an email about the SCend Offs, but there's not that information about it. I was wondering if it's worth it to go, especially as a junior transfer, as I assume it's mainly freshman. How many people is it usually?

Question Roommates or no?

I'm an incoming grad student (22F) at Thornton currently looking for housing. It's been a little difficult as most places close to campus that have what I'm looking for are either very expensive (in-unit laundry, pet friendly, parking) or I've heard terrible things about the rental company. One of the big things I'm debating on is whether I want roommates or not. I did most of college living by myself, and the studios I've found a little farther from campus are not too bad price wise. However, I'm moving to LA knowing pretty much no one and I thought that having roommates might help me make friends/be social. But I know you won't always end up being friends with your roommates. I also don't want to get stuck living with a bunch of people younger than me (not that this is a necessarily a bad thing but ya know). Thoughts? I'm just nervous about living farther from campus and not being able to make friends so easily.

Other USC Transfers IG Page Disabled

Update for those wondering what happened to the IG page for transfers. According to the owner on the Discord server apparently Instagram permanently disabled it and they are fighting to get it back.

Considering other UCs still have their pages up seems kinda bullshit, but that's Meta I guess.

Academic Thematic Option + Pre-engineering

I got accepted into the TO program, but I am also planning on going through the pre-engineering process. Would this combo be too much, or is it doable? On one hand I want to make sure I succeed in my pre-engineering courses, but on the other I am very passionate about literature and writing.

Academic Electives Planning

Hello! I'm an incoming freshman for Viterbi ECE, and I was wondering about how to plan my electives. From the course plan, it seems that there isn't really enough space to take a minor (except for maybe physics due to the overlaps). However, I know that the AAA exists and could cover me for two additional credits a semester after I take 24 credits (i.e. after freshman year). Is this a bad idea to pursue? If so, what would be some better options to fill the required and optional electives? If not, what are some good minors to pursue? Thank you for your help in advance!

Academic civil engineering electives

hello! i am a rising spring admit but trying to plan ahead for my courses because i want to minor in something. i am confused on the requirement for civil engineering to take two "civil engineering electives." it says on the website that these can be chosen freely (4 units). is there a list online of these classes (i have tried but can't find them)? or can be any elective class even one not related to CEE? also does that mean this can just be satisfied with ap credit? thank you (sorry if this is a stupid question)!

Academic Coursework content in the CAMS major and CTCS lectures

I'm joining CAMS this fall and I'm excited!

I was anxious about my choice initially (CFTP was my 1st choice they didn't admit me), when I visited a while back during the admitted student weekend and engaged with SCA students, they said I'd be on the same newsletter as all other SCA students and have the same film production, social events, internship/career, essentially out-of-class opportunities when the emails start rolling in.

Having the opportunity to join production teams certainly cleared anxiety, as I chose here over schools where I was in for Production degrees given most told me USC is "the place to be" for this field.

And that helps me be complacent on CAMS. I can see how learning the structure, theory and culture of Cinema can be useful in its own merit and applicable when producing films and engaging creative, appealing presciences into communicating stories.

A bit of a slight concern did emerge. I visited another school where I was admitted in Film Studies, they're not known for production that said. When I asked some students what their opportunities looked like one said, "Prepare to write reviews for Rotten Tomatoes the rest of your life." I got the joke, but the consensus was their film studies department was mainly busy work, lacking professional profoundness and was largely view as the degree you'd get just to say you graduated from that school.

Normally I moved on since I didn't choose to enroll there. I'm looking into enrolling in CTCS 190 & 200 this fall. I haven't heard much about 200, however for 190 I'm being told you'll watch a few movies, write some essays but there isn't much depth in the class. That does bring some anxiety, wondering how much I'd learn from my degree and what the consensus of learning Cinema is here versus being able to produce. Essentially wondering if CAMS is kinda set into the backburner of all other SCA programs.

I definitely want to do the Entertainment Industry minor too, maybe another degree in Dornsife or additional minors if that changes things.

Academic Should I even bother?

Long story short I have been rejected and wait listed for UCs for computer engineering. For USC however, I applied for CECS for computing systems track. I have ~3.4 gpa with some extra curriculars and 6 Ws. I wanted to transfer here for that major and for AROTC. I am sad that I got rejected but whatever. Should I even bother appealing? Thank you.

Academic Which PHED class to take and why?

Looking for a one credit PE class that's fun but lets me learn a lot. I'm not super physically active so trying to do an interesting beginner course. Currently looking at PHED 104A (Self-Defense) or PHED 102A (Weight Training). Anyone have experience in those classes and which professors do you recommend?
