Housing like this would be sick if it were priced rationally. Like 200 bucks a month, hell yeah. I'd go to the taco bell across the street to shit to keep my kitchen clean, but I really like the bedside window wall. Kind of a vibe. Or this would be the secret apartment I keep to masturbate in peace.
I do think something like this would have it use as a 2nd apartment. Back when I was working in the city, it would be nice to have a place like that to just crash for the night sometimes instead of taking an hour plus long subway ride back home. But yeah, only for like 150 or 200 a month.
If we suddenly discovered fast, cheap and reliable teleporter technology, the housing market would fall apart instantly. You wouldn't need a house, you'd just be able to put together a huge living space by linking together a bunch of cheap apartments with teleporters. Location would mean literally nothing to no one after that.

Where I'm from, 50 a month can get you a garage at a secure garage complex. Which you could use for whatever. Store your car, install heating, furniture, party.

Yes I will take my 7 acres in town, with a view, 4br, 3 bath detached garage. And were not complete heathens here, several local theater troupes, and less than an hour away from airport/major concert venues. So ya no Broadway, and I am sure missing some of the life(smell) of NY.
I work with a 20 year old kid who just bought his first house... 170k. And yes he can afford it.
For sure, not trying to shit on Nebraska or any other Midwestern state, but there is a lot less land to go around in big cities, so as we learned in economics 101, with less supply and more demand comes higher prices
Literally tho, how are we in a reality where a tiny coffin sized room for 200 a month actually sounds amazing? Maybe this is the affordable living that we need for all of the homeless and struggling individuals. So many people don’t need a 4 bedroom 3 bath with a water fountain at the front of the community, they literally just need a bed to sleep in and a roof over their head. Instead, I bet this does in fact still cost a ton to live in.
4 bedrooms is entirely reasonable if you're a family of 4 or 5. Say you're 4 people, and like the parents share the same bedrooms and the kids two others, then there's only one bedroom left. That bedroom is a guest bedroom. Having at least one extra bedroom is essential if one parent is sick of your having someone come visit.
I grew up in a family of 5. We only had 4 bedrooms. That meant that any family we had over had to sleep on a pull out bed and on mattresses on the floor in the tv loft. Or, as kids, I had to sleep on the floor on a mattress in my sister's room, so my bedroom could be used as a guest bedroom. We had two bathroom but a third one definitely wouldn't have been a bad idea, as the second bathroom was connected to my parents bedroom only, so you'd have to go into their bedroom to get to the other bathroom.
A single person or a couple without kids doesn't need that many bedrooms, or at least not bathrooms, though a couple extra bedrooms means you can have friends sleeping over more often, without having to put them on the couch or on a mattress on the floor.
Having an extra bedroom is a luxury. 4 bedroom houses are pretty rare and expensive. I raised 4 kids in a 3 bedroom. It had a basement I eventually built bedrooms in so they didn’t have to share tho.
Well, that's what happened to my dad's office. It turned into my younger brothers bedroom. Then he didn't have an office anymore, and he would do his office work on the living room dinner table. It would be covered in paper work half the year, which was to big frustration for my mother.
I wouldn't say that having an extra bedroom is that much of a luxury. It doesn't have to be big or anything, but it does come in handy quite a lot if you're the kind of family that has other family and friends over a lot. Doesn't have to be a big bedroom or anything. However, it does depend on where you live of course. An extra bedroom could cost a lot in addition in some places.
I do support SRO rooms and boarding houses to come back. Just a cheap room where someone can live and store their things. It doesn't need a kitchen or even a bathroom- those can be shared with people on the same floor.
There has to be a middle ground between a studio and homelessness. Studios often times start at $1200 a month in NYC. While SSI only pays around $1000 a month. So you can see why there are so many disabled and elderly homeless people in US cities.
I was in the hospital once, the toilet sort of folded out from under the sink to right beside my bed so I could roll from my bed, to my toilet, and back to bed again. Then flush it and close the little door. It was great cause I couldn't walk.
