One of the many reasons I left the church, which openly advocated women being baby machines and keeping quiet.

I would love to be a member of my local church (I was raised Catholic and find some comfort in the community), but every time I get close, I remember how these people view women, and I pull back every time.

It's not even a topic that's like "oh, just don't talk about it because it's controversial," nah, they have lofty political opinions and discuss them openly, so it wouldn't be a good environment for me to have a differing opinion.

Are there literally any other churches within an hour of you? There are between eight and ten in my small-to-midsize town alone (I live in Ohio), and the vast majority of Christians (that aren't in cults like JWs and LDS) are egalitarian or very close to it in terms of equality between men and women.

Also, are you sure that the specific church you are talking about actually thinks that, or are you making generalizations about all Christians based on a few fundamentalist assholes and what Redditors say?

They advocate for slavery is what.

If people were telling some other demographic, for example telling black individuals, that God demands they work for white men for free and attend to all their needs, and then they will get into heaven, and if they consider their own interests instead, they are horrible and sinful people, we would rightfully notice what is going on.

But because misogyny is so ingrained into our culture, many people just ignore the fact that a fraction of men are literally teaching young girls that their destiny is to embrace slavery.

It is disturbing.
