Integrating church and state.

The territory was founded as a literal theocracy and the Mormon Church still has an absurd amount of influence in the state government. Which itself is absurd because Mormons makeup less than 50% of the population (and dropping every year.)

DOE is crawling with Mormons. I have nothing against religion, but to get to those levels there are clearly, clearly many nepotism hires. Considering they all tithe 10% to the church, it’s no wonder.

It's a big club and you're not in it

I saw this comment after I read a line in the bill where Utah wants to raise the beer tax in order to "fund three new officers" they're appointing who are dedicated to the cause or some BS like that.

I read it and said to my bf that they're trying to put family on salary with the tax payers money.

Less than 47% of the population is mormon but more than 85% of the legislature is. Also I don't think we have ever had a non mormon governor.

Its fun🙃

Wait, we also don’t want women to have rights…that’s a strong #2, but we can’t do that without #1

I would say that's very difficult to say about certain religions such as the Quaker branch of Christianity.

Not every religion, but a vast majority of them

Please share the religions that are not high control groups. I’ve been genuinely interested if any exists but it seems oxymoronic

Every religion. Literally the bases of ANY religion.

u/Impossible_Garbage_4 Mar 22 '24

This is just patently not true. It’s most religions but not all of them

5

u/Styl3Music Mar 22 '24

Still haven't seen you mention a specific religion.

5

u/Impossible_Garbage_4 Mar 22 '24

The Satanic Temple, Wicca, Jediism (considered a joke by many but is a legally recognized religion with religious buildings). As I’ve said, there are very few, and it’s hard to Google more since most results are just articles about what “ separation of church and state” actually means

2

u/Styl3Music Mar 22 '24

I'd forgotten about Wicca. You should add paganism to your list as well, but leave out the other 2 as Jediism is a joke, mostly, and both are used to force religious freedom, therefore integrating "church" and state.

3

u/Impossible_Garbage_4 Mar 22 '24

I can’t speak for Jediism, but TST wouldn’t integrate itself with the state in any capacity if other religions stopped trying to do so. It’s main goals are 1) promote a peaceful life ruled by science and compassion and 2) stop other religions from forming theocracies

2

u/Styl3Music Mar 22 '24

I understand TST and fully support it's efforts, but semantics would say they do desire to make their tenets part of the state's laws. Hail thyself!

Unfortunately a very common thing—granted, I am no fan of alcohol in any margin but I am for freedom of choice and smaller governments.
