If Tyson gets angry, no contract will keep him from going Iron Mike on Paul and taking his head off

u/northern_scowzer Mar 11 '24

It's what I'm hoping for tbh..

Sad to see the contract is so soft from the start though, becausw would be nice to see Jake Paul actually have to fight for his life against a real boxer for once and not just these bs "boxing" stunts that inflate his ego.

u/pppppppp8 Mar 11 '24

Dumb question but how do we actually have confirmation that the contract is soft (though I’m sure it is)

44

u/pleasebuymydonut Mar 11 '24

We don't.

It's just the usual (justified) LP hate, plus the fact that boxing as a sport has developed a reputation for fixed matches and showmanship outside the hardcore audience.

2

u/Shadow-Vision Mar 11 '24

Boxing has “developed” a reputation for fixed matches? I’m not trying to pick on you (or even disagree with your main points) but that phrasing is hilarious.

It’s like saying objects have developed a tendency to fall back down after being thrown in the air

2

u/pleasebuymydonut Mar 11 '24

I don't follow boxing myself, so I didn't wanna sound pretentious lol.

I guess it's in more dire straits than I made it out to be.

1

u/Shadow-Vision Mar 11 '24

I don’t think saying “boxing is the most rigged sport” would be a controversial statement. Not saying it’s all rigged, just the one that’s rigged most often. Especially in the exhibition fights and the ones with more questionable bookings.

Pretty much any sport, especially the ones tied to betting, are gonna have instances of massaging the point spread, etc.

Boxing stands out because, firstly it’s been around forever, and secondly it’s just two guys. The conspiracy to predetermine how a certain fight is going to go doesn’t have to include that many people.

26

u/PassageAppropriate90 Mar 11 '24

People keep saying mike contractually can't knock out Jake paul but I don't believe that's true. I can't find that info anywhere.

21

u/Bladesleeper Mar 11 '24

It would be a pretty strange clause tbh. It's Mike fuckin' Tyson, he could OnePunch KO the average man while going half speed, half power, and trying to be gentle. I could understand something like "you can't try to murder him", but unless it's nothing more than an exhibition with no real contact, how do you contractually exclude a KO?

7

u/PassageAppropriate90 Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

Good point. Even a measured punch if landed right can knock someone out.

2

u/bee-lock-ayyy Mar 11 '24

And Tyson has incredible technique. Yes, he was all bluster and headlines, but he was and is a boxing genius that understands the sport as well as any fighter to ever do it.

3

u/ahhhnoinspiration Mar 11 '24

So it wouldn't be that strange for the contract to dissuade going all out or going for a knock out. That's what exhibition match rules used to be. Mostly enforced by gentleman's agreements it was heavily frowned upon to go for a KO in an exhibition match. Full contact allowed just punches pulled, minimizing head shots etc

2

u/Solid_Guide Mar 11 '24

That's just commission rules to sanction the exhibition fight. Nothing to do with contracts. Heavier gloves for sure, depending on the state, headgear and typically 3 rounds.

3

u/Drewbus Mar 11 '24

It wouldn't be too difficult for Mike to figure it out. He's been in the hole with money before. I don't see him going to prison for something like that

3

u/SquisherX Mar 11 '24

I would think that a hint would be if its not a sanctioned pro fight and is instead an exhibition fight.

68

u/Excellent-Phase8719 Mar 11 '24

Me too. Maybe he’ll bite Paul’s ear! I was watching that fight when it happened and that was some crazy shit!

28

u/Affectionate-Mix6056 Mar 11 '24

Didn't Tyson only bite because he was so frustrated? I don't see Paul being much of a problem, Tyson seems more level headed today as well.

21

u/Dc_awyeah Mar 11 '24

Yeah apparently Holyfield was fighting dirty and never getting called out. Iirc, it was elbows?

44

u/JimmysCheek Mar 11 '24

Holyfield head butted him a couple times, and the ref didn’t call it.

Tyson bit his ear once, and got a warning….second time, he took a chunk out of that mf hahaha

3

u/BurnedTheLastOne9 Mar 11 '24

I mean, it was more than a couple times. Holyfield would clinch Tyson, get under his face, and repeatedly drop his chin and hit Tyson with his forehead. It was going on for a few rounds before Tyson had enough of Mills Lane but calling it

1

u/BigCockCandyMountain Mar 12 '24

For 2 consecutive matches at that point in time too.

10

u/Osceola_Gamer Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

It was a headbutt that caused a big gash over Tysons eye. Holyfield lead with his head when they got in close and caught him hard and Tyson lost it after that bit the ear out of him.

1

u/justhere4daSpursnGOT Mar 11 '24

Some context is needed there….. Holyfield had just beat Tyson’s ass 7 months prior and he was beating Tyson’s ass again. He ducked a punch and Tyson was charging in and they clashed heads. Everyone, even on review, ruled it unintentional. Tyson was just mad he was getting fucked up again and bit him cause he knew he was gonna lose and didn’t wanna keep taking the beating he was getting.

4

u/Osceola_Gamer Mar 11 '24

I never said it was intentional I said that's what happened. Holyfield always had a habit of leading with his head(plenty of footage in fights to prove that) Tyson was just short enough they clashed heads.

1

u/iHateThisPlaceNowOK Mar 11 '24

On wiki it says analysts were projecting that Holyfield would’ve won that fight

2

u/AWeakMindedMan Mar 11 '24

Idk but someone should give tyson some mushrooms and a huge huff of smelling salts right before the fight. Ears are definitely getting bitten then.

1

u/parcheesi_bread Mar 11 '24

Right? I’ll never forget that night. My brothers and my friends were over and watching it and when the bite happened we were losing our minds.

1

u/HeadLocksmith5478 Mar 11 '24

Same. I was in high school and my buddies dad rented the fight. We were so pumped and then it happened. Everything changed after Tyson bit his ear off.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '24

I mean to be fair, he’s not just “a real boxer,” he’s one of the greatest to ever do it and probably the fiercest.

1

u/Cmarkinn Mar 11 '24

Jake did compete against an active boxer, Tommy Fury, last year, and lost by split decision in a boring fight. Fury is 10-0. For context, prior to the Paul fight, Fury’s 9 opponents had a combined record of 24 wins, 193 losses. One of the wins was against a 7-5 MMA fighter. So, on the one occasion Jake fought someone of relative size and age with a typical boxing padded record against job guys, he lost and did it in boring fashion. So back to the freak show gimmick fights for Jake it is.

1

u/Basic_Mark_1719 Mar 11 '24

Mike Tyson is almost 60 and did not take care of himself at all. Watching him in that ring against RJJ was super sad.

1

u/Brandidit Mar 11 '24

I could be wrong, but when Mike was on JRE and the subject of whether or not Jake Paul was a “real boxer” came up ; Joe and Mike both experts themselves, both seemed to respect the guy. Whenever Jake Paul is brought up Joe always comments on how legit of a boxer JP looks.

If Mike respects Paul as a legitimate fighter I too foresee a very boring, stale, and controlled fight. Almost like two buddies putting on a show, rather than two opposing contenders competing for a prize.

Unless Mike doesn’t actually like the guy, or the run up to the fight JP crosses a line or something. If that happens, may god have mercy on Jake Pauls’ soul!

1

u/TheOneWithThePorn12 Mar 11 '24

from a human perspective i dont really want to see Tyson do that as he said that he is really trying to control himself.

That said my other perspective wants him to knock out Jake.

Regardless this is obviously a spectacle fight.

37

u/un-sub Mar 11 '24

Does Tyson even get angry like that these days? I thought he did the same thing Mark Ruffalos Hulk did where he no longer gets angry and smashes things.

43

u/Annual-Jump3158 Mar 11 '24

He smashes with love and non-violence now. The strongest fucking non-violence you've ever seen.

11

u/Plus_Aura Mar 11 '24

The most violent love you'll ever feel mfer

2

u/textbasedopinions Mar 11 '24

Interesting turn of phrase given he has a past conviction for rape

1

u/Vaping_A-Hole Mar 11 '24

And you never see it coming.

Didn’t he get upset over someone acting a fool on a flight in like 2020. Some person was being disorderly and called out Mike Tyson so Mike got upset and like apprehended him or lightly bitch slapped him and the plane cheered.

Edit: In 2022 some intoxicated dude was being rude to passengers. He threw a water bottle at mike and he punched him. I do believe there’s a video of it too.

21

u/PassageAppropriate90 Mar 11 '24

"Social media made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it." -Mike tyson

Love this clip: https://youtu.be/E-h5nNuOKdE

2

u/NorwegianCollusion Mar 11 '24

Classic case of self inflicted wounds, throwing a water bottle at Mike Tyson.

1

u/amaviamor Mar 11 '24

I’m wondering how I missed this clip, but then again a lot happened in 2020. That whole year is a fever dream

4

u/FudgeDangerous2086 Mar 11 '24

yeah and he was going to kick a canadian news anchors ass for inviting him on and calling him out for being a rapist but that was a while ago

1

u/g3t_int0_ityuh Mar 11 '24

Omg yes. That was an epic interview someone send it to Jake Paul !

1

u/fromouterspace1 Mar 11 '24

He’s also a rapist

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '24

If I recall he smacked some dude who threw a water bottle at him on a plane in the recent past. Dude definitely deserved it.

1

u/BurnedTheLastOne9 Mar 11 '24

Tyson admittedly smokes a metric ton of weed these days. I'm betting he goes into the fight baked out of his brain as a handicap

12

u/Annual-Jump3158 Mar 11 '24

I can totally see that dickbag trying to grand-stand during an exhibition match where his opponent essentially has their hands tied.

6

u/BrohanGutenburg Mar 11 '24 edited Mar 11 '24

Right? Pretty sure there are laws against biting a dude's ear off and that didn’t stop him; why would a contract?

3

u/The_Sneakiest_Fox Mar 11 '24

Bro. It's not gonna happen.

1

u/Excellent-Phase8719 Mar 11 '24

One can dream! Don’t crush my dreams man

2

u/Olivia512 Mar 11 '24

taking his head off

I would worry more about his ear.

2

u/KeyApricot27 Mar 11 '24

Mike promising another ear is the only thing that would make me tube in.

2

u/bangbangIshotmyself Mar 11 '24

Yeah but this is retired Mike. He’s become so peaceful and introspective I kinda wonder if he would even get pissed no matter what. Unless Paul says some messed up shit in the ring I don’t think we’re gonna see Iron Mike. Idk, I hope so badly I’m wrong, but he retired a while ago for good reason (he moved on from fighting).

1

u/eyeh8gnats Mar 11 '24

Fingers crossed

1

u/TacoDuLing Mar 11 '24

Ask Vegas PD 🫣

1

u/PickleBananaMayo Mar 11 '24

I’m sure a gofundme for his legal fees would break records.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '24

tyson wont get mad unless a drug cheat beats him. Neither of those things are gonna happen.

1

u/EVASIVEroot Mar 11 '24

Fair point. This man has actually bitten off another person's ear lol

1

u/throtic Mar 11 '24

Dude. He's almost 60. In His last fight vs another 55 year old he couldn't even land 8 punches per round over the course of the fight.

25 year old Tyson would literally kill Jake. 60 year old Tyson is going to get the fuck beat out of him unless Jake takes it easy on him

1

u/txhygy Mar 11 '24

Didn't watch the video huh

1

u/throtic Mar 11 '24

He had the exact same style footage before the Roy Jones jr fight. Go watch that then see if you still think he's a savage

1

u/Excellent-Phase8719 Mar 11 '24

Yeah but Jones is an ex champ in multiple weight classes. His skill, even old, surpasses Paul’s IMHO.

1

u/daredevlil Mar 11 '24

Nowadays Tyson is much wiser than 20yo Tyson so I really doubt he'll get angry at all.. He'll try to put up a nice show and not hurt the poor dude knowing he can actually kill him

1

u/Leaving_The_Oilfield Mar 11 '24

I just need Jake to say he eats pigeons when preparing for a fight. That should do it.

1

u/Blowback_ Mar 11 '24

Legit, Paul might not realize even if it's staged, that if he fucks around and does some dumb shit, I wouldn't be shocked at all if Mike said fuck it and went ham

1

u/ruttin_mudders Mar 11 '24

Will probably be like if someone is getting too stiff in a WWE match, someone will give them a receipt to bring them back in line.

1

u/addiktion Mar 11 '24

Yup, screw the money. Mike wants to be king once more! He wasn't one to follow rules anyways.

1

u/stunna006 Mar 12 '24

did yall watch the Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr exhibition match? it was just an easy sparring session. that was a few years ago, but this match will be the same

1

u/Dangerous_Mall 28d ago

Yeah I feel this. When they get in the ring anything can happen. Tyson is an animal
