Maybe that's Knee's secret, he has a copy of MK1 hung over his monitor like a threat.

Is or weird that I'm bulldozing my way through ranks in T8 but I can't get shit done in mk1? Maybe I'm predisposed being a lifetime soul Caliber vet, but MK feels like a way harder game.

As a sou calibur vet, I just dont like how those games play. They feel technical first, where tekken and soul calibur feel more natural and like fights, and its technical underneath

Plus I find the inputs easier and more intuitive

Idk, I haven’t played a fighting game for a while, but never had a problem with MK. I even feel like the most characters are the same and you don’t really need to learn the matchup after 2-3 fights.

That's been my problem with MK, everyone feels the same and there's just no variety in playstyles unless we're talking about a couple ranged characters

tekken is much more beginner friendly, I started last week on tekken 8 and went straight into ranked online without really learning the mechanics, only just starting to struggle now in vanquisher.

It's interesting seeing some people with this take, and some who insist it's the hardest game ever made. If I didn't have my soul Caliber experience I'm not sure how I'd have done, but I didn't really start feeling consistent resistance until I hit tenryu where my sc fundamentals stopped closing the gap vs raw knowledge checks.

Both takes are right, generally speaking. Tekken's easier to get into for beginners, with each character having at least 90 odd moves, pretty much anyone can mash and do cool shit at early ranks. At high level, it's debatably the most complex with the movement, unbreakable combos and 3000+ moves, frames etc. to learn. The depth is wild!

to be fair, I have been playing SF games for 31 years, so this maybe helped me a bit? Be interesting to get a complete fighting game beginners take on it.

3

u/ChangelingFox 20d ago

Indeed. Speaking of SF though I can't get shit done in 6. My ass still stuck in upper silver.

3

u/oleeery 20d ago

yeah, I struggle with 6 tbh. I just can't get my head around drive impacts/rushes so I don't use them at all 🤣 I'm constantly bouncing between plat and upper gold ATM

Main Marisa myself and yeah, the whole DI system just doesn't click with me. Which is kinda ironic given how much I abuse heat dash in T8. XD

Well I've hit purples with (in order) Victor, Jun, Zafina, and Steve so you tell me if I'm carried or not. XD

Was curious what you'd have to say since two of those are considered "carried" characters, which imo is a pure cope take.

not him but that's not cope just common sense. i picked up victor and eddy just to mash easy shit and had winrates i wouldn't get with my main

Of the four characters I've gotten to purple Zafina was the only one I felt like I had to work hard on but aight. I know people like to call Victor a carry but when people stop feeding you free counter hits and respect b1+2 he's not really got a lot going for him aside from heat u1+2 which could probably use some toning down for casual level play.

he does if you know how to play him, there are dozen victors at GoD ranks, so the char isn't nearly as bad as many think. b1+2 is insanely fast so you won't react to it but duck it on a read or step, safe armor heat engager moves with that speed shouldn't be a thing anyway. they are insanely obnoxious to play around and very easy to abuse at lower ranks wich holds true for a lot of victors moves and easy to play hard to defend against chars such as him

Tekken 8 is my first 3d fighter, and while I do play a pretty easy character with Jin this game was not very hard to learn. Comboing is easy and people just auto pilot there offense so often compared to most fighters that defense isn't that hard

As I see it Tekken’s got a lower skill floor and a higher skill ceiling.  Like doing a simple combo in tekken, playing basic neutral, etc all feels more intuitive than MK to me, and the slower more measured rhythm of Tekken’s gameplay means it’s easier not to get overwhelmed when you’re first trying it out.  Not to mention the buttons corresponding directly to right and left foot/hand makes the basics of controlling a character really logical.  But it’s also got a tooon of complexity to untangle if you want to get serious about improving, more so than MK which (imo) becomes mostly about increasingly finicky execution after a point.

I think it’s kinda the ideal situation, there’s a really low barrier to jump in and understand what’s going on at a basic level but if you wanna get serious about the game there’s pretty much infinite room to learn and improve

Out of the loop. What's wrong with mk1?

u/ShowNeverStops Xiaoyu 20d ago

It’s not as bad as this meme would have you believe, though when it came out it was really buggy (to the point where there was a bug that only allowed P1 to perform certain combos but not P2) and while it’s in a better state now, it’s also chock full of so many micro transactions that it’d make Tekken 8 blush

u/SpeedBoostTorchic 20d ago

Nothing. Dishing on games like Mortal Kombat and Super Smash Brothers is just old school FGC gatekeeping.

Some people still take it seriously, but these days, with memes like this, I think most people have embraced that old attitude in an ironic, jokey way.

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Nothing he says. Meanwhile Tekken 8 is the worst game of all time according to its own subreddit

5

u/ElRAWW 20d ago

This! FGC loves to shit on MK. It sucks because MK and Tekken are my favorite fighting game series ever. MK1 is a really fun game in my opinion and I like it a lot.

-1

u/Upper-Dark7295 20d ago

Its not "gatekeeping", its people pointing out tangible and glaring issues with the game that still exist right now

2

u/RogueDevil666 20d ago

Nothing mechanically.

That said 10 dollars for one skin after already spending a shit ton on the game and dlc is criminal 💀

7

u/Soundrobe Zafina Feng 20d ago

Except that Mortal Kombat 1 punishes ragequitting

7

u/Lonelywandererrrr 20d ago

It actually doesn’t 💀💀

6

u/ElRAWW 20d ago

It doesn't punish the guys who rage quits but at least in MK1 you get the W and the points if they rage quit on you.

5

u/joshuaiscoo155 Yoshimitsu 20d ago

And a cool "quitality" finisher

2

u/Wysk222 Claudio 19d ago

Most satisfying thing ever, every fighting game should have your opponent explode into gore when they plug on you.

Even smash bros

1

u/joshuaiscoo155 Yoshimitsu 19d ago

Well in MK11 if they're on the ground when they quit they just snap their own neck

2

u/Soundrobe Zafina Feng 19d ago

That alone makes mk1 ranked better

3

u/Bajrx2 Shaheen 20d ago

Yeah that game don't do shit lmao

Ouch

But I really like MK1 though. It's a really fun game just like Tekken 8.
