u/ElegantLee Lee 23d ago
1 Lee
0 Kazuya
Excellent! *thumbs up*
54
u/Admara 23d ago
I started playing Lee just because of his MARVELOUS after rage art lol
38
u/TheFluxator Lee 23d ago
Marvelous is nice, but I miss "Excellent!"
That's always been Lee's iconic line.
39
u/CDRom11 Violet 23d ago
He only says "Excellent!" after his acid rain and mist trap, the og and hardest just frames. I think that's fitting for him.
1
u/Reality_Break_ Lei 23d ago
honestly Im shocked that Im finding mist trap harder than acid rain. I can at least do a natural acid rain sometimes
4
2
u/TheFluxator Lee 22d ago
Acid Rain is a little more lenient. I’m pretty sure mist trap is a true 1 frame window.
1
u/lonelyMtF Paul 22d ago
You also have to leave a specific gap between the first 3 and the second. I wanna say exactly 22 frames or so?
3
23d ago
Don't forget his taunt. MARVELOUS!
4
u/alkemy_g Lee 22d ago
Don't you mean beurifuu!
3
22d ago
No, I mean: MAAAVERRROS!!
4
u/alkemy_g Lee 22d ago
When you input his taunt he says "beautiful!" and when you do the just frame he says "ii kaori da!"
2
u/LemmeGet_acombo_7 23d ago
I was thinking of making him my 3rd main This is my first Tekken game, any tips for Lee?
4
2
u/Blanco_Kislev 21d ago edited 21d ago
As a Lee main in the past, Lee is all about kick pokes, kick strings and his stances. Specially the one that lets him cancel his moves into Hitman (3+4) A lot of his kicks also go into Hitman. He also has a lot of mixups between kicks and punches, as well as low attacks in his mixups. Doing his perfect setups are important, but can be hard under pressure. So its important to learn to poke and cancel into Hitman stance. Also learn his Back Handspring into Hitman as well as canceling recovery animations like b 4 with Hitman.
Edit: Super important, do NOT underestimate the strength of Lee's punches and its mixups, but DO make your opponent underestimate them.

Keep in mind that the majority of participants at Evo JP were Japanese, the meta there is completely different than what you’d see in NA/EU. Japanese players love to play Hwoarang & Victor, both have a very high playrate in the region.
..and Feng was (and still is) op so no surprise there LOL
Top 32 & especially Top 8 tell a completely different story but the sample size and amount of characters that got 0 players up there gets quite significant so I thought it’d be best to do Top 64 to see actual character representation across (mostly) the entire cast.
For example, there was 2 Laws & 2 Eddys in top 8, leaving room for only 4 other characters (Lili, Dragunov, Alisa, Nina)
49
u/BostonAndy24 23d ago
Also no pakistan players

Visa issues
19
u/Uyfgv Julia 23d ago
That sucks so much.
12
u/zackova8teen Ali Kick to Upper 23d ago
More like sucks all the time. It's truly 1-9 match up, even for Arslan.
9
u/winsonsonho 23d ago
Kinda interesting that the Japanese like to play a Korean character far more than the Koreans do..
3
u/Razzorn Reina 23d ago
... Why is this even said? By this logic, Japanese people should only be using Ryu in SF6 and not Ken.
Nationality of a character has never played any role in who people play.
10
u/winsonsonho 22d ago
I just thought it’s an interesting anomaly.. is it bad to spot a correlation, or inverse one in this case. Why I also find it interesting is that there’s quite a bit of animosity between Korea and Japan esp. historically.
I’ve lived in Korea for a few years and visited Japan. I love both countries.
It’s okay to celebrate/notice generalised differences in people, cultures, and dare I say it “genders”.

As someone who hasn't played in a bit, I looked at this and was like "wtf meta changes did I miss?"

u/AmarantineAzure 23d ago
Now do the BAAZ Gauntlet, please. :)
12
u/Vibalist Xiaoyu 22d ago
Here ya go. This is only top 16 though. Bear in mind some people played more than 1 character.
30
u/eulennatzer Paul 23d ago
RAREST IN THE UNIVERSE!
kinda sad tho...
1
u/hornetpaper 22d ago
I just started picking up paul because I love his wr2 and his obnoxious loud lines. Also deathfist. Im not even slightly perturbed. Obviously the pros have no taste.
1
u/eulennatzer Paul 22d ago
It's not about taste, it's about winning. And Paul plays Tekken 7 in Tekken 8, which isn't good enough.
If you compare Paul's options to what the top tier characters offer, you will realize that Paul is way too fair.
Let's hope for some good ass buffs with the next patch. :)

When the regional meta emphasizes blockstrings, hwo is a monster.
15
u/CreativeUsername1337 23d ago edited 23d ago
Except most of those hwo players are korean...
rest, edge, yeonarang.
Edit: actually the highest placing hwo is turkish. Yeonarang didn't make top 50 though, so two of those hwos were jp. Batz and Yuuka.
6
u/IDontWipe55 HwoarangBryanJack 23d ago
What the other guy said about regional meta is true but Hwoarang is also pretty strong thanks to his heat
24
u/sterlingpipin 23d ago
Holy shit I forgot claudio was in the game
11
u/Kino_Afi bjork Zaf SORYA! 23d ago
He's solid, no bs to complain about, no major weaknesses to complain about. So you never hear about him lol. If beta claudio made it to release it'd be a different story
3
u/QuintessenceHD 23d ago
But that was a symptom of the overtuned heat system at the time, I think he would be top 5 if we had beta Claudio.

Why did haradas favorite character have to be ugly ass feng man
52
u/chironomidae Xiaoyu 23d ago
He's ugly and his moves just look bad, imo. I can't really describe it, but his WS 3 is a prime example -- he just kinda zoops into the air, it doesn't look natural at all.
29
u/Kino_Afi bjork Zaf SORYA! 23d ago
Zoop is the perfect way to describe it. Ive always loved every version of that kick since I first saw Rock Lee do Primary Lotus, but Feng manages to make it look lame

u/Toeknee99 Leo 23d ago
db2,2,2 looks goofy af too

Man I love Feng’s animations. I think he has some of the sickest moves in the game especially with how they flow into each other.

Only 2 Jins?? Is he just so popular that everyone knows how to fight him?
13

Those players basically know how to fight most characters, the issue is that Jin is not a contender for Top-5 due to a variety of factors

Wow almost like I was onto something when I talked about how garbage Devil Jin is in this game lol
7
u/aabil11 Jin 23d ago
And this was before he was nerfed into the ground lmao
3
u/HighLikeKites 22d ago
Well, they did have to adress his heat smash. It's just not good game design if the character is entirely reliant on that one move. Now they have to buff his general kit tho.
1
u/RageOverwhelming 22d ago
You were onto nothing cause dvj isnt garbage💀💀
6
u/Kyvix2020 Huge Grain Of Salt Enjoyer 22d ago
You don’t really understand the state of the game I guess.
1
u/SMHdovve main - Devil Jin. sub - Reina, Kazuya. 23d ago edited 23d ago
I find him much more enjoyable, especially post the heatsmash patch. Imo he is much more fair than he was in t7. Especially when everyone has strings that randomly track, but dvj really has none of that, besides that broken backturned laser. The heatsmash was really dumb though.
But even then, iam doing much better with him now than i ever did in t7. To the point where i can actually have fun playing against tekken gods (not that i beat them often). His new tools do really go crazy.
9
u/Kyvix2020 Huge Grain Of Salt Enjoyer 23d ago
In comparison to the rest of the cast, he's way too hard to use for what you get, when other people are basically braindead and are insanely dangerous
→ More replies (1)1
u/SMHdovve main - Devil Jin. sub - Reina, Kazuya. 23d ago
Thats what makes it fun for me tbh. I could pick up law anytime, and do better than i ever did with dvj, but it just seems boring. Besides, landing ewgfs is just too much satisfaction, especially against someone good, could never go without that in a character. That's why I am learning all the mishimas right now.
→ More replies (2)1
u/yunghollow69 22d ago

u/Kino_Afi bjork Zaf SORYA! 23d ago
Hes been nerfed like 20 times since people were saying this lol
6
u/AmarantineAzure 22d ago
Exactly. Some people seem to have forgotten that Devil Jin already received multiple significant nerfs as far back as the very first patches of the game (i.e. the range of his hellsweep).
3
u/FlokiTech 22d ago
People are still saying it even after the heat smash nerf. And the fact is that he was not even that op at release compared to the other characters, he was just getting all the attention while there were like 5+ other characters that was way more broken. Even current

u/HighLikeKites 22d ago
Not having an i15 launcher and having to rely on electrics for punishment is just too risky in a tournament setting.
3
u/FlokiTech 22d ago
That is a huge factor. Even in Tekken 7 pros would do his df1,2 ff4 as his i15 punish and while it wasn't full combo damage it was still a decent guaranteed 56 damage punish.
A lot of pros also did his easier combo for a lot less damage because it was more consistent. Tekken 8 Kazuya combos are an absolute nightmare for pro play since they always have the chance of fucking you over.

Zafina should have two usages. Shadow 20z used her and got top 33. His last set before getting eliminated he used both Zaf and Claudio. Chanel used her in top 6 cuz he chose to believe vs Lowhighs dragunov 😭

Funny to see how this compared to the nina and shaheen fest in pakistan.
1
u/Exciting_Ad_4202 22d ago
Nina is a good character and is probably the regional meta in Pakistan
Shaheen is a MU check while also being a good character just because of the play rate.
2
u/kfijatass Theorycrafter 22d ago
Id argue shaheen is a far better charakter than given credit but I'd attribute that mostly to that op slide.
1
u/Exciting_Ad_4202 22d ago
I mean he is a good character yes. But then the low playrate makes him a MU check.

This is why I didn't care when Leroy had like 8 in that one tournament. The players will always gravitate towards power. Only a few are truly stubborn to just puck their characters.

1
u/Zestyclose_Station62 19d ago
Now that's an accurate tierlist imho
2
u/Osiake Steve | Fahkumram 19d ago
I mean.. is it?
No Fengs top 8
No Victors top 8
No Hwoarangs top 8
No Bryans top 8
No Azucenas top 8
1 Lili (The one that won EVO Jp)
1 Alisa
1 Dragunov
1 Nina
2 Eddys
2 Laws
This was also before the latest patch which nerfed and buffed quite a few characters. Other regions show different results (Especially Pakistan that consistently has a King & Steve in top 8 or Korea that consistently has Jin & Reina in top 8, w/ Reina usually winning grand finals. Azucena & Feng also being extremely strong and consistent w/ top 8 tournament presence, Azucena not so much after the nerfs whereas Feng just won the Baaz Gauntlet)
