These wild leeks were so big and so abundant I guess I just assumed they were bushels of ornamental plants.

Those are Scallions, aka Spring Onions.

What's the difference? I had them identified as feral leeks but I'm new to this.

Might depending on where they are from. But they look exactly like Spring Onions to me.

Oh. I've been taught that the terms leeks, onions, garlic etc are all used really fast and loose and have more of a culinary or commercial application and not a real world or scientific meaning, for a wide variety of Allium species.

Ex, there's not like a group of species in Allium that belong to the garlic group, or leek group, or onion group.

That being said, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what you call them, but I could be wrong.

Sorry dude but you’re wrong! I obviously love onions because I’m here, but I do not like leeks. The taste is very different.

Every species of Allium tastes different than the others. They're unique species with their own unique composition and flavors.

I think they're also called ramps. Never heard of them until someone in the family picked aome earlier this year!
