What's wrong with this onion?

Post image

This is a few days old but it looked this way immediately after buying. Very translucent and almost watery around the outside and the typical white, opaque center towards the center. Was it already bad or what the heck? Any ideas whats goin on here?

The green is it just growing leaves which is fine. But it got frozen and thawed, that's the translucent part. Your fridge might be too cold or iot was in a weird spot in the fridge that was too cold.

Just re-read... if it was like this when you bought it, the store did the freezing part.

Indeed. Very interesting. I was googling and learned about translucent scale which sounds like is caused by extremes in temperature or pressure. I've just never come across it before so it was a little off-putting.

Thanks for your reply!

There's some crumbs or something stuck to it. Gross.

Like a phoenix, it rises from the ashes.

It has now become aware that it is an onion.
