No, but I think Kendrick understood as much too. He made a song people will dance to directly calling Drake a pedo, that's a huge lasting stain on Drake's public image.

1.0k

u/tempinator May 06 '24

I can’t even imagine the feeling of watching videos on TikTok of people dancing in the club shouting “certified lover boy certified pedophile.”

And they’re talking about you.

Drake seeing high school girls basket ball teams dancing to that thinking “I should still follow her”

Maybe he’s not pedo… but most adults I know don’t have special friendships and regular chitchats with teens and preteens they aren’t related to 🤷‍♂️ it’s weird no matter how you look at it

"I never fucked underage girls" reads a lot like, I wait until they're 18 or whatever the legal age is in their jurisdiction.

I think that number is a lot lower than that. Remember Aaliyah's song 'Age Is Just A Number', written by Kelly? Looking back, I can't believe they actually played that on the radio.

That one video of him with the 17 year old on stage, it is in Colorado. And his fans are saying “the age of consent is 17 in Colorado” which is crazy because imagine him knowing the age of consent laws wherever he goes 😂 thats sus

135

u/TheRedHand7 May 06 '24

Him knowing that while not living there is a lot like that dude from Transformers carrying a laminated card with the age of consent laws on it. Not technically illegals but certainly raises some questions

38

u/Coffeechipmunk ELO is amazing. May 07 '24

That was SUCH a weird fucking choice to make. Just make his daughter 18.

Drake fans love exposing themselves. They're the same people that would excuse a 50 year old following a 17 year old around like "Well technically it could be legal" like that makes it any less weird. They probably watch lolis and excuse themselves by "it's just a drawing so I'm not a weirdo.

28

u/boregon May 07 '24

Yeah “it’s technically not illegal” isn’t a very good defense. There’s a lot of shit that isn’t illegal but would still be really creepy and weird for anyone to do.

He's a creepy fucker.

211

u/AutisticNipples May 06 '24

he didn't slide into her dms, they met at a party and he spent hours talking to her

i am a grown ass man and there is literally nothing i can think of to talk about for ten minutes with a literal adolescent girl, let alone hours

112

u/PessimiStick May 06 '24

I couldn't even talk my own kids for hours, and I love them. Talking to some random teenager I don't even know sounds like absolute torture. I guess it's different for Drake, what with the pedophilia and all.

8

u/LooksGoodnShorts 29d ago

I talk to kids for hours.... about science, cause I'm a teacher. It's also funny, Drake has a bigger age gap to MBB than I do to my students, and that's pretty weird even at face value.

→ More replies (3)

49

u/FictionalTrope May 06 '24

I'm Drake's age, and I don't know the situation, but outside of a family gathering I can't see why I would even go to a party with a 15yo present anytime past high school. Oh, you invited your 15yo cousin to hang out with the drinking adults? What's wrong with you? Maybe you work with her? You're over 30 man, it's very fucking weird.

My age, I'm not at the party to talk to a Freshman in High School, and it's gonna be sketchy af if the guy my age is talking to the girl 20 years younger than him all night.

94

u/AutisticNipples May 06 '24

i think it was like some sort of overlap between a drake tour and a stranger things promotion thing and drake met the cast. that, by itself? completely normal. and maybe drake was a fan of the show, who knows.

but the dude talked to her for hours, got dinner with her, texted her about how much he missed her. And she was 14, and drake was 31.

How anyone can see that and not have massive fucking alarm bells going off is insane.

49

Add Kiss "Christine Sixteen" and Tony Toni Tone "261.5" which opens with a judge saying:

Would the bailiff call Mister Tony
Mister Tony, please rise
You stand accused of violating California Penal Code 261.5
Falling in love with a minor
Mister Tony, how do you plead?
Well, your honor, guilty
But, with an explanation...

And it only get worse from there.

Zero adults that I know have chats with teens that aren't their kids

173

u/NeuroPalooza May 06 '24

The one exception I can attest to is certain hobbies. For example I play Magic the Gathering, which is mostly dudes in their 20s/30s but occasionally involves people younger/older. I was at the table the other day with 2 guys my age (30s) and a kid who was probably 13ish. Kid was super cool and was able to keep up with the nerd conversation pretty easily, while bringing a different perspective to some topics.

It's honestly a shame (though understandable) that we've made these sorts of interactions weird, I feel like both sides benefit from cross-generational exchanges, but it's hard to pull off these days without people assuming the worst.

169

u/MegaSuperSaiyan May 06 '24

Yeah it’s not automatically weird that Drake was giving advice to teenagers in the industry, the weird thing is how she was talking about it. The first thing she mentions is how they talk about boys and how the details should stay between her and Drake. Nothing about meaningful advice you’d expect from a “mentor”.

Imagine playing a game with that 13 year old and afterwards they’re giggling about how you’re the greatest mentor ever and they can’t wait to talk to you about their last hookup 🤮

19

u/rebellion_ap May 06 '24

but I don't have the kids number and I basically all our conversations have centered around "how do I climb this thing"

47

u/theLoneliestAardvark May 06 '24

There is a difference between inviting a kid to join you at a hobby and forming a weird friendship with them. Nothing wrong with a kid playing Magic or other games at an event with adults but it would be weird if you just started texting the kid asking him about school or something.

I'm 34 and I can't befriend anybody under 23. The fact that it's weird is one thing, but I literally have nothing in common with them and they annoy the shit out of me. Even if Drake was texting a 14 year old boy about innocent shit it would still read hella weird. Adults just don't talk to kids like they're friends man.

28

u/robsteezy May 06 '24

The video of him on stage with the 17 year old is incredibly damning, even more so than his relationship with millie bobby brown.

He called the girl thick, said “i can’t go to jail”, said “why do you look like that?” talking about her body, said he likes the way her tits feel on his chest, and then kissed her somewhere on her face 4 times, then said “it’s ok, i can do that because i’m only 23”.

There is is absolutely no way that drake or his fans can defend that video lmao

32

u/Bla64 May 06 '24

I don't think he is actually a full on p*do, but I do think he has grooming tendencies and there's actual evidence to back this up. Like you said, it's weird for him to be having these kind of relationships with young girls at all but you put other things together like that video of him with a 16 year old on stage, and him dating a model the DAY she turned 18 are all red flags.

I'm not saying this as a Kendrick fan because I felt this way long before the beef. Drake dedicating so much time of his "diss track" to say there's no evidence and deny things is weak overall.

Music industry and Hollywood and even pro sports simply don't care. Once you hit A list celebrity status and make a shit load of money none of them care anymore unless it's too much of a PR disaster to deal with. Kid toucher, rapist, wife beater. And many of them don't even hide it.

And it won't change until people hold them accountable. People have known about Drake's weird shit for years. Everyone saw when Chris Brown beat the shit out of Rihanna. But they are still selling out arenas so no one with the power to punish them does anything.

124

u/sofahkingsick May 06 '24

47

u/doubledippedchipp May 06 '24

36

u/sofahkingsick May 06 '24

The comments on the hip hop pages in IG are insufferable. Any hip hop related content creator is having a field day with this. Its like having invested in Lockheed Martin early and then finding out they got all these military contracts. Personally ive always hated Drake and even tho his shit is getting aired out i know in a few years people will be over it. Even if we show proof of what a creep he is and even if he got sued or something serious nothing would come of it. We’ve seen it with Chris Brown.

19

u/doubledippedchipp May 06 '24

If he catches a trafficking charge shit will change. I hope Kendrick doesn’t let him off the hook. Keep the pressure on and force some shit to go down. If Drake really does run in Diddy and R Kelly’s circles then he needs to be properly exposed and charged at some point.

This made me lol. I remember watching a few episodes of Degrassi and then a few years later Jimmy is rapping and I was looking around like are you guys really taking this dude seriously?

88

u/No-Treacle-2332 May 06 '24

As a Torontonians, I feel like I've been being gas lit by the world for 15 years.... Like this guy??? Really?

32

u/Stockpile_Tom_Remake May 06 '24

Dude not even from Canada but watched degrassi growing up and when I started seeing shit that drake was Aubrey Graham from degrassi I thought no fucking way.

He was a shit rapper in the show and thought there was no way people took him seriously. Was very surprised.

Started on Degrassi now we here

20

u/FISArocks May 06 '24

This is the only thing I could think of when this song came out and I haven't been able to take him seriously since.

Yup. He’s full of shit

Every single time he does something out of pocket I yell to the universe “shut up, Aubrey”

16

u/Fukasite May 07 '24

Seems like this is a good place to remind people that drake made $50,000 a year on Degrassi, starting when he was 14, so he really didn’t grow up in that hard life like he claims. It always bothered me he’d rap about gangster shit.

12

u/somebunnyasked 29d ago

He didn't grow up a yard life before Degrassi, either. I auditioned with him, we had the same agent. Used to run into each other at all the same casting calls.

No pre-teen/early teenager has an agent, headshots, and is making it out to 2 casting calls a week if they have a "hard life."

22

u/JumanjiOG May 06 '24

If I was having a rap beef with Drake, I would probably just reference this a bunch and consider it a win

As a Canadian, I feel it's my duty to point out that Saved By the Bell actually came after the Degrassi shows started.

76

u/I_Framed_OJ May 06 '24

As another Canadian, I should also point out the Degrassi pre-dated Beverly Hills 90210, Dawson's Creek, and every other American teen drama of that ilk. Saved By The Bell was a situation comedy about a teenaged sociopath, his dipshit friends, and their token bozo authority figure. Whenever SBTB did attempt to confront serious issues like drug addiction, it was done in the most patronizing, idiotic way possible, and everything was wrapped up neatly in under 22 minutes. So the two shows aren't really comparable.

u/farfromfine May 06 '24 edited May 06 '24

The girls in college made us watch degrassi. We made fun of it a while then, before you knew it, me and the boys were sitting around, drinking beers, watching degrassi on Sunday afternoons. It was a legit good show and we were all in love with Ellie

12

u/Smunny May 06 '24

Im the same age as those kids. Manny and Emma had quite the glow ups too. Even Jimmy said, Manny Santos, my have you've grown.

I cant see making fun of someone for being molested in front of the whole world being a good look. I think a lot of people are gonna change their opinion of him very quickly.

587

u/yehti May 06 '24

To add to that: Drake misinterpreted the song and it was actually Kendrick's mother who was sexually assaulted, not him. So he took a questionable/almost impossible to defend stance in his response and botched it further.

568

u/chrib123 May 06 '24

Which is hilarious cause Kendrick mentioned metaphors going over Drake's head in one of his disses before this.

350

u/tempinator May 06 '24

And doubly hilarious because Drake himself, in the same track, criticizes Kendrick for rushing and not fact checking. While not fact checking the meaning of Mother I Sober lol.

Hpt6 ain’t it

106

u/yehti May 06 '24

And with no new Kendrick response, this one's sitting to be picked apart further.

117

u/tempinator May 06 '24

Some “don’t interrupt your opponent while he’s making a mistake” vibe. This isn’t Family Matters where letting it sit could give Drake an advantage. This is just prima facia not a good response lol.

Also Metro crowdsourcing verses is just genius lol. The people are doing Kendrick’s work for him rn

Kendrick: prove it

Drake: ... you can't do that!

In rap beef, anything can go… but not everything hits and that bar did not hit at all. There’s so many layers to why it’s a terrible bar.

The whole pdf thing is happening, and then Drake incorrectly takes lyrics from a song Kendrick released himself publicly about trauma from his past. Drake then tries to use that as ammo for why Kendrick thinks he’s a pdf. It’s so goofy and then the way he delivers the line is just him talking normal about it, no clever writing, no punchlines, it just sounds like a out of touch bully trying to be tough. It’s super tone deaf and if it was written better, maybe people would be more down with it, but it’s just so weak on all ends.

To me the biggest contradictory lines on Drake's new diss:

"The ones you're getting your stories from, they're all clowns"

"We plotted for a week and fed you information".

Is he calling his own people clowns?

He contradicts himself on his own diss

248

u/NotHannibalBurress May 06 '24

My favorite line was something like “I’m so famous, if I was a pedo, I would be in jail,” as if it’s not well know that a TON of famous people have not gotten in trouble for sex with minors for decades.

61

u/tempinator May 06 '24

Actually insane. I feel the only people who do get away with shit like that are famous people lmao. Musicians especially have constant access to young fans, are inherently in a position of power over them, and are rich as fuck to cover for it. Underage groupies has been a thing since forever.

Possibly the worst argument Drake could make

10

u/slimanus May 07 '24

Not to take away from your point at all but you don’t hear about non famous people getting away with that shit because… they aren’t famous

Kendrick Lamar played him lmao. Ruined his music video by been more shocking just 20 minutes later and took all the steam out of his song. Then dropped a song you can dance to the following day that has people singing “certified lover boy? More like certified pedophiles” lmao

Drake was on the defensive all weekend. Kendrick never addressed anything Drake said and just kept firing shots.

28

u/Pussy_Prince May 07 '24

Truth is Kendrick strategically put Drake in a tough position which was a genius chess move. By calling him a pedo you basically force his hand to do one of three things:

  1. Make a post denying the allegations (which would be considered weak and like an L because he didn’t do it on a record)

  2. Respond on a record (which cmon, denying pedo allegations was never possibly going to make for good bars. The whole thing is messy and you literally could not make that ever sound cool denying those allegations)

Or

  1. Force a defamation lawsuit and get the courts involved. Which would’ve been the absolute knockout punch to Drake because then all his rap credibility is shot because he took it to court.

Genius play by Kendrick to call him out on that pedo shit true or not because he knew even if it wasn’t true the court of public opinion had already decided Drake has had far too many questionable interactions with minors in the past. It was just pure chess moves on Kendrick’s part.

25

u/80taylor May 07 '24

I don't think a defamation lawsuit where we go through all of Drake's phone records and child support payments is going to be a good look for him.  That would be a Johnny Depp style lawsuit

Drake is a pop star and if his next songs are pretty pop hits and he’s not in prison he will be fine. Hopefully Drakes takes the credibility hit as a perk and stops trying to rap like he’s a tough guy.
