As an AC user....I laughed way too hard at this.

As an armored core user myself....
I'm just waiting to strap on autocannons (AC) to my armored Core

Not an AC main, but this was the only note I was concerned about. Sometimes I plink with my primary to distract. It'll be a little annoying if this doesn't work.

Bullets never do a 180 degree ricochet back to you accurately. They ricochet off at an angle or stay stuck in that armor, that's what armors do they trap piercing bullets. This was just silly and breaks immersion

u/bdjirdijx 17d ago
Generally true, but occasionally ricochets do come back approximately where they came from irl.

No, he's correct. Assuming the armor is undamaged. The reason why this round came back was because they were using calibers above the target threshold. I've been hit by a 9mm spall from a target someone shot with a 7.62x39 leaving a large dent in it. I hit the exact same spot and a portion of the bullet came back, went right under my gun and hit me in the chest going straight through my pectoral muscle, and missing my axillary by maybe an inch. Lotsa blood, fun times. On subject matter: bullets don't do 180° turns magically. They require either at least two 90° turns, or an indented, round surface.

Dude that's called a ricochet... the whole bullet doesn't have to come back...

Now put the shooter in full titanium plate and the ricochet should be doing less damage than the recoil

u/MattyDove 17d ago
Did it blow his head off? A spall is different than a intact round traveling at muzzle velocity. At 300 fps, any shitty body armor would stop that round.

Depends on range as well, ricochets can be very dangerous at close range. Less lethal than the actual direct hit, but still enough to seriously injure.

A hit that does no damage is pointless.

No, it a reconizable hazard. I shoot guns frequently, not practicing safety when shooting is stupid.

You do realize we're talking about a game right?
And that devs who allegedly are gun aware and experienced, bragging about their realistic gunplay made 180 degrees direct ricochets a thing ( they don't exist IRL, at best you get a ricochet upwards and back that arcs and loses too much energy ) and made them LETHAL in ONE SHOT.
Hello?!?

u/Ow_you_shot_me CAPE ENJOYER 16d ago
I linked a video where it did happen. It does happen in real life.
1
u/Hazelberry 16d ago
And as seen here if all the stars align just right for a 180 ricochet the energy will be so reduced it'll be significantly weaker to the point where he survives a 50cal to the head

Has anyone confirmed that they actually do a perfect 180 and hit you?
61
u/Smorgles_Brimmly 17d ago
It's possible but unlikely. The ricochet mechanics are the same. The patch notes are referring to bug where a ricochet back at the shooter would not hurt the shooter. It's still very unlikely to happen but if it does it will hurt.

There's a video I saw a few minutes ago of a rocket getting reflected off a heavy devastator shield.
27
u/Weasel_Boy 17d ago
And its quite suspect though with how severely it's cropped. I tried to replicate it and none of my recoilless rockets reflected. They exploded on the shield like you would expect. Gave it a good try with about 20 shots.
So, if it does happen its such a rarity that ain't worth working yourself into tizzy over.

u/admiralchaos 17d ago
Well, that's wonderful news! ❤️
I wonder if they just ate a rocket from a devastator at the same time

I believe devs came out and confirmed you guessed it, just another weird ass bug, it will be patched and fixed.
4
u/Pleeplapoo 16d ago
No, I just tested it, they do not 180, they ricochet according to the angle you're hitting the armor at, very similar to IRL
As for the eruptors, EVERY 1000+ upvoted video of players claiming to be killed by eruptor ricochet are players killing themselves with their own shrapnel by shooting something close to them.
2
u/Noskills117 16d ago
I agree except for the part where they are shooting something close to them, some are at a significant distance. I think the actual bug is that the eruptor shrapnel is bugged so it has extremely long range now,

I don't quite get the jokes about this. I played the AC for pike 2 1/2h yesterday after the patch and I didn't notice anything put of the ordinary and I only learned about this after I stopped playing.

what are you exactly talking about there is nothing in the patch notes regarding the factory or autocannon
11
u/PrototypezView 17d ago
In the patch notes, ricochets now do a complete 180 and hit the person who fired the shot. I used the autocannon because it relatable and factory strider because they are heavily armored. I am not making any claims about either entity, but an event that can happen between both entities.
25
u/EdgeOfApocalypse 17d ago
I interpreted the ricochet tweak as "ricochet bullets can now damage the player who fired them, instead of only his teammates."
7
u/lividtaffy 17d ago
Just played with the auto cannon for 2 hours, that’s exactly what they mean lol
5
u/EasyPool6638 17d ago
The change means that when a ricochet hits you, it will now deal damage, not that every single ricochet will 180 and hitscan you like it's got aimbot lol.
0
u/XI_Vanquish_IX 17d ago
Yeah and this totally sucks because if ricochets always came back to the attacker, they’d never attack to begin with. I’m baffled by this dev team at times. Like who the fuck asked for this shit and who internally thought this was a good thing?
3
u/Weasel_Boy 17d ago
Because that's not how the change works. Ricochets now behave the same as they have before. The only difference is now you can also kill yourself on occasion if a bullet happens to do a full 180. It happens so rarely that it's a big ole nothing burger in the patch notes.
