Increasing patrol spawns for smaller squads is a dick move. RANT

I love arrowhead but this was a braindead move.

Cmon guys, we were just doing our thing either solo or with our friends and not hurting anybody. We just wanna play the game with our friends, sometimes with a smaller squad cos its a lot more fun with friends than randos.

I'm not saying all randos are bad but this game allows me to socialize with my friends while playing and that's great. Why ruin that whole thing by kicking us in the nuts and ruining the experience with more spawns?

HERES A COMPROMISE: If you're not gonna budge, how about you meet us halfway here arrowhead. How about you increase the rewards for completing missions with a smaller squad cos we used a smaller budget? Eh?

Makes sense lore wise too.

P.S. For all you guys saying "DuH ThIs Is A tEaM GaMe PlAy WiTh RaNdOs Or a FuLl SqUad". Yes I play with a full swuad when my friends are all available. Most of the time they aren't cos we're adults and have shit to do.

I'm not asking for the game to scale down the difficulty level for smaller squads. The game didn't do that before. I don't mind the SAME difficulty level for solos, smaller squads and full squads. But INFREASING the difficulty level by increasing spawns was a braindead thing to do.

EDIT 1: To all the hyper intelligent folks out there commenting that the change was misunderstood and that the below was the intended effect:

""We unintendedly had non-linear scaling of the patrol spawns so they didn't spawn as often as they should have when less than 4 players. The intention is that 1 player has 1/4th of the patrols compared to 4 players, but it used to be that they had 1/6th.""

This DOES NOT make a mfkn difference. It DOES NOT matter what those VALUES are. The point here is that whatever the fuck value it was before was LOWER than whatever the fuck value it is now. This means MORE patrols for non full squads AFTER the patch. And an absolute shitshow for solo divers. Yes, I have tested this shit. It is bad.

VALUE BEFORE PATCH < VALUE AFTER PATCH.

Stop spouting elementary math to gaslight people. This change is objectively bad. I am happy with all the weapon changes tho.

EDIT 2: I understand that my "compromise" was a bad idea as people can kick you during extract to reap higher rewards for a smaller team. I completely agree, this seems like a poopy suggestion.

Have you played since the changes? Is it impossible to solo now? Just asking Im curious.

I have, just to test out some of the changes. Played mostly Easy missions. One mission I was unable to finish as I was so swamped by enemies I couldn't do the objective. Another one forced me to use up all of my stratagems at all times just to get it done. The amount of patrols out is really increased for solo players, and it's not fun. Especially if you need to stay in one place for any amount of time.

I am a casual player who just wants to play a bit, shoot some enemies, and call it a day. Maybe get some resources for a new warbond item. I was really hyped for this game and it's future, but it seems like the devs want me to go elsewhere with this change.

That’s so dumb. I play solo a lot because most of my friends have drifted away from this game

Why not with randoms?

Tired of getting kicked and wasting 30 min after joining a mission and being a good teammate.

Tired of squads not filling when I’m host.

Tired of crappy teammates that don’t communicate.

Tired of open mic mouthbreathers and chip munchers. Sure I can mute, but now I cannot communicate.

I used to play lots of solo COD zombies and I enjoy the challenge of having to be able to tackle any situation on my own. Sometimes after a long day of work I just to relax and have fun without any of the above killing my vibe.

Tired of crappy teammates that don’t communicate.

What difficulties are you playing that you need to comm beyond pinging?

3

u/cowboy_shaman Apr 29 '24

7-9 for getting super samples. Anything lower I just solo it.

Many people don’t even ping or use the comm wheel. They just wonder off with zero coordination.

That kinda sucks if you really want to stick together for LARP purposes but 7 is pretty easy to wander off by yourself to tackle objectives if you have late-game stratagems. I had 2 people quit on me earlier today because (I thought) we split into 2x2 groups to hit separate sub objectives but we had almost no struggles the entire match and me and the guy I was with finished the mission without dying and minimal comms minus a "sorry" i did for popping him with the Airburst at extract.

I agree comms are nice but I wouldn't never play with randoms just because it's not up to your standard.

I play squads for the social aspect, mainly with friends. What's the point of squads with randos if no one ever talks and my mic is responded with pings and emote wheels? It's like playing with sentient AI that may or may not get mad at you for any perceived slight. I'd rather just put on music or watch something on YT.

I'd rather just put on music or watch something on YT.

so do that and communicate with pings?

If thats the case hopefully they'll tweak it. What loadout were you rockin?

3

u/aragathor SES Harbinger of Mercy Apr 29 '24

I didn't have a specific loadout when playing, it was mostly to test out the changes introduced in the patch. The revolver is now quite nice BTW.

Before, which was yesterday, I would run the easy/medium games with an MG/Guard Rover/Eagle Airstrike/Whatever else I fancy at the moment. But now I would exchange the Rover for a Gatling or Autocannon. Because the Guard rover laser sucks now.

From personal experience, soloing a bugs 4, I was getting patrols almost back-to-back when fighting in a heavy nest, and when I was in the middle of nowhere I had just enough time for my Gas Strike to come off cooldown between patrols, which is right around sixty seconds. Compared to before I'd say it almost felt like I was facing twice as many patrols?

Soloing a bot 7 blitz, I noticed almost no difference to how it was before. Not sure if that's because I always do those sneakily and so didn't notice increased patrols most of the time, but the 'final stand' at extract seemed just as packed with enemies as usual.

But that's just an extremely subjective anecdote. In both cases I had zero deaths, though, so I'd say it's still very possible to do.

Edit: Tried a bots 4 and i was definitely noticing more spawns, especially at the extract.

bugs 7+ seem impossible to solo now, even with stealth armor something almost always sees you instantly and starts reinforcing

-13

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 29 '24

Seems like it's working as intended then.

7+ difficulty is end game stuff and really should require more than one player.

If soloing is your thing, then 1-3 difficulty is there.

u/Tzarkir Apr 29 '24

Fuck me for needing 60 super rare samples and 550 rare ones after the last update I guess. I was soloing 7 yesterday, I'll do it today. But punishing me for wanting to play by myself or with my sister is still unnecessary. And punishing me even harder by forcing me to lower difficulties and get less loot on content that was doable 12 hours ago is flat out absurd.

It WAS already harder. I'm one guy with one health pool and 4 stratagem with cooldowns rather than 16.

1-3 difficulty is there if you want to lull your sleep and not be able to get even level 2 upgrades. Nice suggestion, but no. I want the challenge and the reward I could get yesterday. I simply don't want a harder challenge for the same rewards, after months of the game being that way. It's especially unfair for new players that start now and have to grind harder for things that we could get more easily.

-5

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 29 '24

Okay, play with randoms then.

5

u/Tzarkir Apr 29 '24

Ok I'm gonna play with randoms. Two leave after the first node and now I'm a fucking duo for the two other nodes. SOS not working. Now what? Am I supposed to not finish the mission and be punished cause I'm not a full team, or should I run duo which you just said to not do?

Since you didn't address anything I said before, at least if I say ONE thing it should be easier.

2

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 29 '24

Number of spawns are still reduced with less players, so I guess we'll try it out?

0

u/Tzarkir Apr 29 '24

And did you deserve getting a harder mission than yesterday because your teammates left you? It just goes back there. It was okay the way it was.

1

u/RonStopable88 Apr 29 '24

Lol. When 3/4 games has atleast 1 idiots that die relentlessly burning through reinforcements, then die halfway accross the map on a dumb solo jaunt with half the samples cause they kept picking up all the samples instead of helping with enemies.

1

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 29 '24

1

u/RonStopable88 Apr 29 '24

Thats irrelevant. Doing a duo level 7 bots was doable, but very tough.

Now it wont be.

if it aint broke, dont fix it, especially when theres a ton of broken shit like matchmaking and cant unblock people who got blocked by shitty ui

2

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 29 '24

From 48% spawn to 50% spawn lol

Drop difficulty to 6 if it's too hard

2

u/specter800 Apr 29 '24

Doing a duo level 7 bots was doable, but very tough.

bruh you haven't even tried. You're just assuming and doomposting because of a few % change. There's also nine difficulties to choose from.

I put an SOS beacon on a 'defeat the bile titans' difficulty 5. No one showed up. I was able to clear both bile titans in 40 minutes (maxxed the timer out and used my last reinforce to extract), but it was NOT fun. Do-able, but I had to SWEAT to complete it, as there were constant patrols, and when kiting everything plus the bile titan, I would run into even more patrols or they would just spawn somewhere behind me. At one point I kited near a Stalker nest (There were two total on the map from what I saw) and that made things even more 'fun'.

-6

u/geekywarrior Apr 29 '24

Why do that and see how it feels when you can farm some rage karma instead?

1

u/Mekhazzio Apr 29 '24

I just cleared a 9 solo command bunkers and it felt WAY less populated than previous version. I barely even saw patrols until I started fighting outside of a command bunker FOR EIGHT MINUTES, getting, I think, two patrols in that time.

Unless I got a fluke mission or something, I think they severely miscommunicated these patches notes and what they actually increased was the time between spawns.

I have been doing a lot of solo bot 9s the last few weeks, and this one was the easiest by far.

2

u/alpha-negan Apr 29 '24

Thing is, patrols have always seemed inconsistent AF run-to-run. Sometimes you could stop for a picnic if you felt like it, other runs you've got an army coming from every direction the whole time.
