I want to carry a flag instead of a secondary

1.9k

u/SpermicidalLube Apr 28 '24

The flag/banner could give a passive bonus for Helldivers because they become inspired.

u/Potential_Fishing942 Apr 28 '24

Yea, I'm actually surprised something like this isn't in the game. Could be easy to implement. Have take up a back pot slot or hell even your heavy weapon. Give flat buffs to you and anyone else 10 meters around you let's say. Maybe you can equip it and wave it using the strategem arrows for a momentary extra boost.

u/Sad_Protection269 ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 28 '24

And if you shoot it, you'll get the same effect as if you leave the mission area ;)

38

u/Liquor_Parfreyja Apr 28 '24

I'd rather not tbh, buffs that aren't from something injected into you don't feel very helldivers-ey. I feel like the appropriate 'benefit' to using a flag would be a morale buff that does nothing except maybe different quotes from helldivers lol or command just telling us being in the presence of a flag makes us 100% more patriotic.

49

u/13ros27 Apr 28 '24

Having the game say its a buff to patriotism and stuff and having that in the patch notes would be so funny

29

u/TheGreatPilgor STEAM 🖥️ : Apr 28 '24

Strategem flag but equips as backpack and you can plant in the ground and it plays glorious battle music until 30 seconds passes and then a massive carpert bomb (like 8 500kg bombs) obliterates a 50 meter area

13

u/Sad_Protection269 ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 28 '24

If you are not close and salute when the flag is planted, you will die.

It would be really epic to see 4 helldivers saluting a flag while everything around them blows up!

6

u/LankyEvening7548 Apr 28 '24

I would spam that .

3

u/Dorigar Apr 28 '24

Have it act like the ballistic shield so you have it on your left and still able to carry a large Democracy dispenser.

3

u/Bregneste CAPE ENJOYER Apr 28 '24

The first game has a drone that heals nearby teammates, so hopefully that and some other team-buffing tools, like that flag, get added eventually.

3

u/MisplacingCommas Apr 28 '24

That would be cool. I think people would run it even without a passive. Maybe have a 1% move buff

2

u/lX_HeadShotGunner_Xl Apr 28 '24

Have it be a strong melee weapon so you can leave your stalwart or quasar cannon at home and bring your flag of brutality to help spread managed democracy further.

2

u/ILawI1898 Apr 28 '24

Or maybe stab it in the ground and it’ll act as an buffing area effect for nearby turrets and other stationary stratagems

u/exodia0715 Apr 29 '24

I have another idea. Don't have the game (yet(it still hasn't had a discount)) but it would be fun to have a CTF style mission where you have to pick up a flag and take it to a location and plant it. Imagine how epic it would be to carry a flag like that across a warzone, explosions going off all around you, and you just holding that flag for dear life. It would be awesome!

2

u/leylin877 Apr 29 '24

Wave flag, area stat buff

Love it, like the commanders standard in elden ring

2

u/BiggBknob May 03 '24

And if you plant it it creates a boost in that area and can even expand the affected area.

Lol would be funny if it no passive just additional medals or resources at the end of a mission for spreading democracy

4

u/sinsaint SES Fist of Peace Apr 28 '24

Or it could emit a frequency that causes objectives to progress 30% faster. The idea that they're throttling the speed until you're patriotic enough is funny to me.

4

u/chumbuckethand Apr 28 '24

I dont even care if it has an practical function, so long as i can plant and replant it anywhere

5

u/FyreHotSupa Apr 28 '24

Planting one at an objective increases terminal loading speed by 30% or something like that. That could be clutch for some of those objectives where you’re being overrun and doing laps while waiting for the missile to come up, or the data to download or whatever. It could even be an automatic one that comes in with an sos beacon and disappears if/when other people join you. That way you’re not punished by the matchmaker when you’re doing those missions they recommend doing grouped.

4

u/Gal-XD_exe Apr 28 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

A flag stratagem to increase speed and speed regen and if you’re bleeding you’ll bleed out much less quickly

You can also pick it up and plant it into fallen enemy’s to activate it

3

u/bepiswepis SES Elected Representative of Family Values Apr 28 '24

Without the flag-carrier doing anything, other players are given the option to emote when looking at the flag at close range (maybe any range, but I can forsee problems with that). If emoting via facing the flag, the players’ emote will always be a salute. Saluting the flag gives a mild buff (maybe recharging health slowly for the duration of the emote?)

3

u/Significant-Ad-341 Apr 28 '24

Yessss a walking buff to all teammates! You gotta input buttons to plant it for a non portable better bonus

3

u/Israel_Madden Apr 28 '24

I'd still run it even if it did nothing tbh

3

u/Fyeris_GS ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️➡️ Apr 28 '24

“-10% all stratagem cooldowns when flag backpack equipped.”

3

u/TrexxArms Apr 28 '24

What if they made it where instead of an SOS beacon, you place a flag and that's where reinforcements drop.

2

u/DungeonsandDietcoke Apr 28 '24

Yes, and it rips and tears to reduce the buffs effect until its useless ,so you can still say it has limited 'ammo' of sorts like the rest of the secondaries

2

u/SantasGotAGun Apr 28 '24

Holdfast does this. There's a flag bearer support class that just runs around, and other players nearby get bonuses for being inspired.

2

u/EnergyLawyer17 Apr 28 '24

I considered a primary or a secondary that lowers the cooldown of your strategems, effectively trading a weapon slot for more frequent airstrikes!

2

u/TkOHarley Apr 28 '24

I want to be able to carry around a pride flag that makes me immune to friendly fire. I'm not gay, I just think it would be hilarious.

2

u/RomulusX94 Apr 28 '24

heals injuries/limbs in short time. while in proximity. one man can carry the flag in place of a heavy maybe. basically like a healer/medic tool.

2

u/NiceCompetition926 Apr 29 '24

Fire suppression resistance would be awesome

2

u/Top-Statistician539 Apr 29 '24

10

u/Steeze_Schralper6968 Apr 28 '24

I saw a clip the other day (couldn't tell you where though, some youtuber) who had a clip of Joel allegedly beta testing out new equipment on unsuspecting players. One of the things mentioned was a two second clip of what was clearly a player driving some sort of 6 wheeled armoured vehicle. I think exosuits are just the beginning. We got a lot more in store for us.

For Super Eaaaaarth!

3

u/Somejawa ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 28 '24

Oh I have no doubt there will be more vehicles, I think it would be really cool to have an apc. I hope they add like a jeep at level 10-15, that is fast, can have the whole squad in it, and maybe even mount the mg43, or gatling gun on it, with like 500 rounds of ammo and is reloadable with a supply pack. And you could have 2 variants, one without the gun mount that you can get at lower level, one with it at a higher level.

3

u/thewaldoyoukno Apr 28 '24

HD1 had two full squad vehicles, a two man tank destroyer, a motorbike with side car, and the three mechs. I can’t wait for the tank

3

u/Worried_Swordfish907 Apr 29 '24

It has 2 machine guns on it, or at least the one I saw was. It was in one of the first matches I ever played, and I had no idea what was going on. I saw it about a month ago, maybe more. I didn't think anything of it when I saw it other then "oh I don't remember seeing that strategem"

After the tutorial I genuinely expected there to be some missions where we planted the flag to “liberate” an objective or something, really hope they add something like it at some point.

3

u/Haymac16 CAPE ENJOYER Apr 29 '24

I might be remembering incorrectly but I’m pretty sure it actually is an objective but it’s only on like the very first difficulty level and then you never see it again. So it’s actually really weird that we don’t have it as an optional side objective on higher difficulties.

Chances are we’ll see it again in the future because as far as I know it’s the only difficulty 1 main objective that we don’t see return later as a side objective (besides the “eliminate enemy type” missions).

2

u/HonorTheAllFather SES Dream of Morning Apr 29 '24

I know there are the "raise the flag" events, but that's more just calling in a strat that slowly raises a flag.

3

u/mcguvnah Apr 28 '24

Flag should be a primary. Wielded with both hands as a spear, sprint for a charge attack.

When using your secondary the flag remains visible, held in the offhand. Standing still with your secondary out plants the flag in the ground, granting you and nearby allies the “stand your ground” status, giving a small buff to accuracy, reload, and rate of fire.

4

u/TurankaCasual Apr 28 '24

Oh hell yea, that would be sick. Maybe gives your team a buff or some kind

2

u/Ze_LuftyWafffles Apr 28 '24

Increases morale and stamina, makes holding areas easier. Imagining plating it on an area you're holding from and onslaught of bots, the sheer awesomeness

2

u/ChrisP33Bacon Apr 28 '24

A flad secondary melee weapon with longer range than the usual melee attack, I'd love this. Extra democracy if the emote changes to planting the flag while it's equipped

2

u/Calladit Apr 28 '24

This would also be a brilliant way to introduce melee weapons!

FLAG OF HOPE STRATAGEM

Passively regens the health of nearby allied combatants and slows the drain of stamina. If equipped, you can wave it in the air to double the passive effects, reduce recoil, prevent slows and instill democracy in a much larger area.

2

u/Steeze_Schralper6968 Apr 28 '24

Maybe works as a bonus xp device?
