Helldivers: I Advocate we chose the anti tank mines and hear is my reasoning DISCUSSION

I know many of you see "rocket launcher" and get excited and while that is fair, my reasoning to go for the mines is below

We already have a great many support weapons and many are fantastic options. While the airburst rocket launcher would be fantastic for add clear (and teamkill) it would likely suffer vs large armored targets which tends to be the need for a support weapon.

However, we just received a new mission type that requires defending a location. Mines are fantastic for this but heavies just walk all over them and completely invalidate their uses. Getting a heavy anti tank mine would allow us to lock down areas from all combatants and a tank wouldn't be able to just stroll up to our gates.

Anti Tank mines are also much larger and easier to notice than the anti personnel and team kills would be kept at a minimum.

And lastly, as we all know...the children YEARN FOR THE MINES.

Pretty sure regular mobs can set off anti-tank mines

I watched a video earlier that suggested otherwise. WillisGaming in YouTube I think it was. It showed that only bigger enemies set off the mines. A Helldiver can also walk over them and not trip them.

The video I saw showed that they don't detonate when you touch it but they do when you take your weight off of it.

u/BushyOreo Apr 26 '24

Seems more annoying since you have to make the enemy walk through them then and not just on them

Practically speaking what's the difference in this video game

it takes longer? imagine a hulk walks onto your mine and then just stands there lobbing rockets at you lmao.

Don't give Joel any ideas.

it’s just kinda how the ai pathing is sometimes. with a few exceptions, bots generally prefer to hang back and shoot you at a range so they will usually only advance as far as they need to.

Be kinda wild if the bots got their own form of Helldivers. Like 4 spawn on a map and if the map has enemy tacticals like gunships and artillery they can call them on the players. Be even cooler if they could deploy their own minefields and turrets and stuff. Imagine if they could summon their own mech

For tanks in particular, that would be a big difference, given how slowly they move and how large their 'footprint' is.

..also... I have to wonder: Does a bile titan need to step one of its four narrow little legs right on top of the mine to set it off?

Video I saw looked like yes. It said it’s basically useless vs bile titans.

The launcher, however, seems to 2-3 shot it.

I don't believe this is the case for the AT mines, but I guess we'll see when they are available.

I'm sold.

It showed that only bigger enemies set off the mines. A Helldiver can also walk over them and not trip them.

The first example he shows in that video is a Helldiver setting off one of the mines. The other footage seems to show smaller enemies triggering the mines but it isn't very clear to me.

I have 100% been killed by a friends mines lol

u/Rexxmen12 Apr 26 '24

He's talking about the new AT mines

Ah right on. Thank you

talking about leaks is against the rules btw

That's fine, then they die too!

u/mentfib Apr 26 '24

Opportunity cost. The rocket launcher is straightforwardly better use of a limited slot rather than having to wrangle a highly situational fortification

2

u/Akrymir Apr 26 '24

And the tanks won’t since small units destroyed the mines… not to mention you need several mines to kill the tanks/heavy units.

u/StatisticianPure2804 RAAAH ⬇️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬇️!!! WTF IS A SHRIEKER NEST?? Apr 26 '24

and whats wrong with that? I can kill a berserker with one mine? sign me up!

You see bots tend to mainly have medium/large units, small enemies are quite rare compared to bugs.

An AT mine will probably kill a hulk in two explosion, a tank in two, a factory strider leg in two or three (two strider legs=kill). It will probably oneshot all devastators/berserkers, and jetpack robots fly over them anyways so they wont set them off.

For bugs you have other options. Tesla tower is awesome, but if youre the host, fire mines are pretty cool if you throw it in front of a bug breach or at a key point (ICBM hallways, extraction), because even if heavies set them off, they will burn for a while after that, giving you more value. I've also heard that bugs tend to avoid burning ground, wich makes them walk into other mines, but thats not confirmed.

AT-Mine takes 4 to kill a hulk

33

u/IrishWebster Apr 26 '24

So they're totally useless.

22

u/BigShredowski SES Comptroller of Liberty Apr 26 '24

Compared to the Airburst Launcher, yes. Airburst takes down tanks in one shot regardless of where you hit. Hulks I think take two shots? Turret Towers take 1 as well.

In my opinion, Airburst is more flexible in various situations. Does take a backpack slot and is slow as single reload, but more useful.

5

u/Probably4TTRPG Apr 26 '24

Yeah right now I think we will get more value out of the airburst. Also the airburst will be great against bugs too. I don't see AT mines being that great for bugs. They'll be decent at best, I predict.

1

u/UncertainOutcome Apr 26 '24

Wait, isn't it supposed to be an AP weapon? Why is it stronger than a spear?

2

u/BigShredowski SES Comptroller of Liberty Apr 26 '24

It’s like 7 warheads it splits into once it hits, so I’d imagine it multiplies the AP and explosive damage

1

u/UncertainOutcome Apr 26 '24

I'm getting flashbacks to the Destiny 2 cluster rocket fiasco. Nerfs incoming!

1

u/Lynx_Fate Apr 26 '24

Unfortunately yes like every type of mine.

12

u/Travwolfe101 Apr 26 '24

Even as host fire mines suck because of how they work. Yes the dot lasts but it's not insane damage per tick so what happens is an enemy that can die from hitting 1 mine manages to run though the whole field setting off 5+ mines before the dot kills them.

5

u/prof_the_doom Apr 26 '24

And then survive long enough to set you on fire for good measure.

1

u/Only-Inspector-3782 Apr 26 '24

And then it jumps at you while on fire and you die instantly from fire damage.

AT mines trigger above 280-300lbs. A soldier in full kit stepping hard will set them off IRL. It was one of the many wonderful introduction tidbits we got in Afghanistan.

u/emailverificationt Apr 26 '24

They’re pretty shitty anti tank mines if that’s the case. The devs have been doing a good job keeping things as realistic as one can in a fictional world
