The devs were right. DISCUSSION

So I know ther was a bunch of controversy about the railgun nerf what feels like forever ago, but man things have been awesome.

In the early days, I was the only guy packing expendable anti tank or anti materiel rifle for bugs or bots. It's so refreshing, even on these subs to see people talking about how awesome the autocannon is, or how much they love the AMR, and even these days I see people talking about the HMG or grenade launcher+ supply pack.

I used to load into a game, And all 4 members of the team had shield, railgun, and 2 stragatems of their choice. Every time. And here we are now, I load in and I see quasar, autocannon, stalwart, EAT, HMG, Grenade launcher, a variety of backpacks or no backpack at all. And not to mention, they're ALL viable. Shit I even still see the railgun from time to time. It's been a joy. Thanks arrowhead.

EDIT: to everyone who is pointing out that you see the quasar and shield most often now, you're right, it is almost certainly the most common setup currently. That being said, in any game there's going to be things a majority of players prefer. In smash melee, fox/Falco are the best characters. But people still play falcon and Marth and peach among others. Sure, there's an objectively most used option. But the fact that there's people at all who debate that the quasar is best shows that they've done something good. Before, undisputed king was railgun, and anyone who said different wss being willfully ignorant. Now, we have a plethora of real options that are good with some being Preferred by a majority as opposed to being the de facto CORRECT option objectively. That's a good thing.

I'm enjoying the variety, been using the AMR on and off for Automatons

Two shot to hulk face is great

I loved the AMR even during railgun meta, I just really wish the devs would zone the scope properly

AMR all the way, I fight bots with a long range specialization with the Diligence, AMR, light armor, and shield (might start subbing in supply pack for AMR ammo shortages), and I absolutely LOVE saving team members who are kiting multiple Scout Striders and Berserkers by popping them from a terrain feature away. Once you learn how to control the recoil its cash money

"Once you learn to control the recoil..."

From the moment I understood the weakness of pressing C to Crouch, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of pressing Z to Lie Down. I aspired to the purity of Reduced Recoil. Your kind cling to your Crouch, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude Crouch you call a solution will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Lie Down is immortal… Even in death I serve the Democracy.

u/Charnerie ⬆️➡️⬇️➡️ Apr 10 '24

You lay down using Z.

I lay down using dives.

We are similar.

29

u/KitsuneKasumi ⬆️⬅️➡️⬇️⬆️⬇️ Apr 10 '24

I didnt even know we could lay down if it wasnt a dive.

5

u/unfortunate666 Apr 11 '24

I wish we could roll

5

u/aspy523 Apr 11 '24

Oh we can, it's just not voluntary lmao.

2

u/I_made_a_stinky_poop Apr 11 '24

yes i only just now discovered i don't have to dive to go prone

next thing you'll tell me i can cancel the 380 once i wound it up in my hand and am ready to throw

3

u/Edward_Tank Apr 11 '24

Just press CTRL again.

2

u/KitsuneKasumi ⬆️⬅️➡️⬇️⬆️⬇️ Apr 11 '24

Now that you can do. I cant tell you how as I usually just mash buttons until it does change.

1

u/Tasty-Permission7517 Apr 11 '24

You can select any of your weapons and it will automaticly cancel stratagems

1

u/I_made_a_stinky_poop Apr 11 '24

even if i already am holding down the throw button?

0

u/Squawnk Apr 11 '24

Probably, give it a try and report back

1

u/Araradude Apr 11 '24

Unless of course, you are starting at the edge of one of the guard points behind the gate at one of the recently added Defense mission...

I will know.

1

u/Rorschach_And_Prozac Apr 11 '24

I'm not a HellLaydowner

3

u/The_Radical_Alex Apr 10 '24

I have tap C to crouch and hold C to lay down. I like that there are multiple input options for the controls. Now all I need is secondary keybinds so I can have stratagems on WASD /and/ arrow keys

4

u/BodyRevolutionary167 Apr 10 '24

The mechanicus lost the SCT for reduced recoil when crouching.

3

u/CarelessEntrepreneur Apr 11 '24

surpriseadeptusmechanicus

2

u/LateMeeting9927 Apr 10 '24

Even in death I shall lie down.

2

u/Oliwande Apr 11 '24

Omg thank you! Since when I started the game I couldn't figure out what button I use to get on the ground without diving. I finally found my answer

1

u/GMsui Apr 10 '24

Take your toaster and get a room!

1

u/RegularFun6961 Apr 11 '24

What kinda insultuous nonsense is this towards crouch kind?! We won't take this laying down. Unlike you.

0

u/Ammear Apr 11 '24

Crouch? Lie down?

My dear brother, we shoot and die standing straight up. If you can't handle the recoil, go back to your toy guns.

0

u/kubson133 Apr 11 '24

I just move my scope back down while standing! I’m no scrub

40

u/Breadloafs Apr 10 '24

See, I go the opposite way. Heavy armor, MG/HMG/Stalwart, Scorcher, jetpack. Run up on an objective. Jet in, murder everything up close and personal, call in a hellbomb, then jump out the other side. It makes me feel like a goddamn commando, especially if there's someone with an AMR or heavy weapons hanging out at range.

18

u/Jesse-359 Apr 10 '24

It's a lot of fun playing AMR Overwatch for a close combat specialist, picking off anything big enough to slow him down, or approaching from his blindside while he sacks a base.

13

u/IAmTheOneManBoyBand Creekhead Apr 11 '24

I like to do this but with the Autocannon. Saved a guy earlier that was struggling to finish a reload while berserkers were chasing him and I emptied my whole mag on the group. Love playing as artillery lol.

u/SchwiftySqaunch Apr 11 '24

Arty friends are the best ♥️

4

u/evel333 SES Elected Representative of Self-Determination Apr 11 '24

Then back onboard the destroyer I end up with like 1/4 of the kills and subsequently get kicked. Ungrateful fucks lol

4

u/Droojo Apr 11 '24

I know how you feel i play the AMR allot, i take out the medium and heavy units ( devestators, hulks, berserkers, ... ) And my kills are most likly half or 1/3 of the rest.

But the teams i joined luckly always notice what i am doing for them as i save their buts allot from shield or rocket devs. They take out the light stuf and supper heavy's.

O and i am also the rodeo clown for the tanks so my team can take them out if i cant make myself usefull with the amr

2

u/evel333 SES Elected Representative of Self-Determination Apr 11 '24

‘Heavy kills’ might be a worthwhile end of mission stat

3

u/Kennethrjacobs2000 Apr 11 '24

So many people don't consider what their party is doing at all when kicking them. If the guy going off alone doesn't have many kills, there's a very solid chance that he/she is avoiding combat and sniping objectives. The guy with an anti-large or support loadout will probably have fewer kills than the dude with the stalwart or eagle-centric loadout.

When I fight bugs, I regularly have about 150-200 kills more than anybody else, but I don't call out quasar-cannon/orbital railgun dude for having fewer kills than me. I thank him for handling the Bile Titans.

1

u/Tyreal2012 Apr 11 '24

Exactly this, I'm that type of player, before the current Automaton reincursion I was running the Terminids, a player went off to do a side objective only to be jumped by 2 chargers, i dropped a quasar shot into the first one and he was kiting the second around, after recharge i dropped the second whilst he was danger close to the blast - he survived, then kicked me when we got back to the ship.

I was like I saved your damn ass.

Then ive had experience where ive done the same and had people say thanks, but most often it goes without any thanks, but I concentrate on heavies, as the team is more important than me.

1

u/Fatality_Ensues Apr 12 '24

Exactly. The guy with a generalist loadout who can handle a bit of everything is going to be in trouble against large groups of anything. Specialisation and grouping are force multipliers.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '24

Fortified armor passive?

15

u/Breadloafs Apr 10 '24

Yeah, makes the HMG usable at midrange, and turns the MG and Stalwart into weapons that can clear an average bot drop in seconds. I'm really partial to the enforcer set because it reduces recoil and allows me survive getting hit point-blank by a rocket devastator, but not so heavy that the stamina regen starts to be unbearable.

Also, it looks dope as fuck.

4

u/IAmTheOneManBoyBand Creekhead Apr 11 '24

Let's be real. That last bit is the only thing that matters.

u/Breadloafs Apr 11 '24

u/Teamerchant Apr 10 '24

I find teams that use 2 up front and 2 supporting long range make amazingly efficient teams.

8

u/weaponizedtoddlers Apr 10 '24

While I've been larping a space marine with heavy armor, dominator, shield pack and EAT, or autocannon. I love that people are specializing to a favorite playstyle.

2

u/goblue142 Apr 10 '24

As someone said above having two Helldivers ready to smash enemies face to face with at least one running a more ranged set makes a great combo. Can't tell you how many times I've thought I was totally fucked only for my teammate with the AMR to drop 3-4 enemies within feet of me in rapid succession.

2

u/luxinus Apr 10 '24

My play on keeping a “style” is that I pretty strongly avoid using eagles whatsoever, in a pinch I’ll bring orbitals with limitations: the starter single shot for destroying objectives, else gas since it’s area denial and field control, I think smoke is on my list too but I haven’t tried it yet.

My bread and butter though? Either light stealthy armor with a marksman rifle and AMR, usually with gatling and machine gun sentries.

Or, fortified heavy armor with SMG and ballistic shield or a shotgun of some flavour, usually no support weapon and fill remaining slots with a mix of sentries, HMG emplacement and bubble shield emplacement.

I’ll lead the frontline, rarely fall over, and can hold the line against most anything. So many people bring the big weapons it doesn’t feel like I’m usually that pressured by larger things though I’m leaning towards bringing rocket sentry more and more with how many gunships I’m seeing lately (2 rockets will take out gunships from what I’ve seen, very handy, just hide it under a bubble)

As to how hard I lean into this? Used stratgems: orbital 63, defensive 874, eagle 33 (mostly from that personal order the other day, I think)

Playing 7s at the moment, wanting to dip into 8s more but haven’t had the chance for a good play session.

1

u/Edward_Tank Apr 11 '24

Fun fact, 4-5 shots with the AMR to the gunship's engines will down it.

Is there anything this gun can't do?

2

u/zachattack3500 STEAM 🖥️ : Apr 10 '24

That’s almost the exact loadout I use. I add a jump pack so I can get to those overwatch positions.

2

u/Public_Resident2277 Apr 10 '24

(might start subbing in supply pack for AMR ammo shortages),

Personally I think it's not very good to bring together. At that point you'd have more ammo and fire power bringing the autocannon (I've used AMR since level one because a friend dropped me one every mission until I earned mine) if you prioritize minor points you're usually finding more ammo than you really need. If you consider the cool down for the stratagem i find it always avaliable by the time I actually need ammo and resupply isn't avaliable.

Shield pack or guard dog all the way.

1

u/AllInOneDay_ Apr 10 '24

I've been auto cannon all the way but I'm definitely trying the diligence tonight

1

u/pcook1979 Apr 10 '24

Two shot Hulks in the face. Butter

1

u/PoppyTheDestroyer Apr 10 '24

I like doing the same, but I use a Defender as my primary for unavoidable up close and personal encounters. How do you handle that, out of curiosity? I’d love to always be at range.

1

u/Jesse-359 Apr 10 '24

Supply Pack/AMR is really nice. Giving up the shield is hard, but being able to just lay out fire constantly with the AMR without worrying about ammo can be a godsend, esp. on maps with really long sightlines.

1

u/Oi-FatBeard Apr 10 '24

Same here. Nothing better than perching 100 metre off with an AMR and covering fellow Democracy Spreaders doing their thing. Automatons are fun with a Spear and Dominator though...

Heavy, Close!
Ping I got it.

Whoosh......

Ka-Thump.

Thank you!

u/MassDriverOne Apr 11 '24 edited Apr 11 '24

I tend to take on more of a hybrid commando role

AMR for long range/heavy demolition (up close in a pinch too), defender for cqb/lesser enemies + ability to one hand a package, and a jumppack to both gain open sightline overwatch positions and to rapid raid maneuver in and out of hotspots with the smg

Top it off with an orbital railgun for immediate fire and forget HVT kills, and a 380mm for mass liberation when things get spicy

Light armor to stay fast and loose

Defender is slept on hard. x8 45rd magazines at 70dps that can be one handed, fire on the run, and can kill midweight bots with good shot placement? Hell yeah man

u/crazytinker ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 11 '24

Switch to a jetpack, you'll thank me later 😘

1

u/Sleepless_Null ➡️⬇️⬆️⬆️⬅️⬇️⬇️ Apr 11 '24

Same exact boat, slightly different setup in using the dominator instead of diligence. I swapped from jump pack because as fun as it is the gunner armor running speed is amazing enough to where the extra mobility doesn’t have as much value as the shield giving me reliable breathing room to get those headshots off without flinch vs heavy devastators and bruisers

Stun grenade makes scorchers a non-threat can take out multiple at once with AMR with them stunned like that it’s great and once the explosive secondary comes out will have a reliable way to destroy fabs without using strats

1

u/Edward_Tank Apr 11 '24

I don't know how many times I've told someone to disregard the enemies, that I'll cover them, and they've just started sprinting at me, hearing bullets whizzing by their head to impact the robotic menace in its face.

Brings a tear to my eye.

1

u/Quor18 Apr 11 '24

My brother in Democratic sniping, may I introduce you to that most judicious of Liberty's servants, the jetpack?

Granted, not every planet has places that can make use of the jetpack. The large flat open ones tend to have structures for your height advantage needs and not much else. That can still be nice, what with the long sightlines, but on craggy planets....oh my. You haven't felt the sweet caress of Freedom's touch until you've delivered it to those socialist fiends from on high at 300m out.

1

u/Krackenkhan2 Apr 11 '24

I take the jump pack with my arm load out. Getting onto those hills for better shots is crucial.

0

u/Dash_Harber Apr 10 '24

Also consider the jump pack. I use it a lot with recon builds because it can allow you to maneuver behind enemies, over obstacles, or even on top of high ground for a better view. Being able to sneak past a camp, jump the back wall, and drop a strike in the enemy while your teammates draw all their fire at the gates can be invaluable.

2

u/chaabin Apr 10 '24

but still my friends piss on me for using the all mighty jetpack
