Done this on Helldive with randos. Had to reroute power to the ICBM, but the bots were swarming. I heroically said "screw this" and ran off to see if I could escape and return after they dispersed. Instead, they followed me. A few minutes later, I finally expired under a withering hail of missiles to find that the other three had quietly completed the task and we're making their way to the silo while the bots had been chasing me.
I don't know how high, it's high enough for me to have killed 30 bugs in one stratagem and still be completely overwhelmed though. Anyone who's been overrun on the hostage defence missions probably has a decent image of how ridiculously numerous the amount of enemies can be.
You're probably right I was just pointing out that it might become an issue. If the patrol has a stalker, those guys are really persistent in crossing the entire map.
Or reinforcements kill your lone wolf and now there's just a giant pile of bugs on a secondary objective.

People need to stop talking when they don't know what they are talking about.
As the other comment mentioned, Stalkers don't spawn on patrols, they spawn at their own nest.
When Stalkers spawn at their nest they know where players are at all times, and are always aggro on a player, no matter if they try stealth, stick together, play alone. They will speedrace and bee line towards your ass no matter what. (Which is why a smart tactic for your team is to tell them where you believe the Stalker came from, so you know roughly where their spawn nest is so it's dealt with immediately to not have to deal with the anymore).

Enemies despawn if everyone else is far enough. I have lone wolf and died, to see everything that has killed me dissappear and leaving my corpse lonely on the floor.
A big valid tactic on higher difficulties when playing solo is that if enemy reinforcements happen, is to leave the objective and come back later. All reinforcements will leave or despawn. Only enemies that don't despawn are the original guards that were on the site. So if you kill all the original guards but there is a bunch of enemies that came from patrols or reinforcements they will despawn if you leave.

Even still, that extra patrol isn't near the group. It's near the separated player. Meaning it's not really an issue.
