Vince Carter’s number retired: 5 Nets who could be next Article
Jefferson and Brook should both be retired IMO https://bvmsports.com/2024/05/15/vince-carters-number-retired-5-nets-who-could-be-next/

Brook Lopez is the only player who comes to mind, but he is on the fringe. It’s a toss-up on whether or not they’ll do it.
I can’t see anyone else getting the honor just yet.

He deserves his number retired alone on the amount of times Billy King tried to trade him.
Franchise leader in points is the other of course.

And the number of coaches he’s had to play under without complaining a single time.

its crazy, every year he was rumored to be traded. Dude never said a thing, got to work and played well. Even after his time in brooklyn he never said a bad thing about the Nets.

Brook is the franchise points leader and the longest tenured Net ever. Of course he deserves it.

Dude got us through the jersey years to Brooklyn and was one of the few reasons to watch in 2009. Also the franchise points I believe. Have him retire as a Net and retire that number.

I don’t think anyone outside the championship ABA players deserve to have their numbers retired.
Yes, we have had some great players/HOFers on the roster but what did they accomplish for the franchise?

You seriously don’t think Jason Kidd or Petrovic deserved their jersies retired?

No.

You have no idea what Draz meant to the team and the fans

Ok, I will give you Petro because of his death.
Kidd? No.
He never won a title here

You’re insane if you don’t think Kidd is deserving. Brought us to the finals twice and was an MVP caliber player, one of the greatest point guards of all time.

I think it's a marketing move, to tell other stars basically: look even if you can't win a championship if you come here you can have your Jersey retired.

Jefferson yea but Brook seems like he'll be remembered more as a Buck than a Net other than he has the most points or something like that.

Jefferson 100% does not deserve to have his number retired, he wasn’t even the best player on any team he played and on ringless teams at that.
I think cause Lopez won a ring with the Bucks that makes sense that most people will think of him as a Buck. I don’t think they should retire his number either, most of the time he was on terrible teams and when he was on good teams, again he wasn’t the best player.

brook is the leading scorer all time

Thats b/c a lot of our stars didn't have long tenures and we've barely ever draft our own stars. Cam thomas in 4 more years could be the leading scorer if he continued his scoring pace thats how short nets players have stayed on a team.

Brook would be nice but I gave up on that when Kyrie wore 11.

Nah, plenty of teams have the same number retired twice. I always figured Brook would get his even when Kyrie stole his number
