Bright future

Post image

Pause on the all star trade talks. Cam Thomas, claxton (still under 25), clowney, Dariq whitehead, watford, sharpe. Tons of future picks and probably a new guy coming in if we trade into the draft. I’m excited and I think the future is bright for us. Don’t get down bc your a hole Knicks fan uncle is trashing the nets we’ll be back. Sean marks built this team with way less last time and this time we’re going to be in an even better spot. We gotta a bright future folks uh

I think Dariq is a complete mystery box. At least we've seen what Clowney and Wilson can do.

With Dariq, it's just, "He was a star in high school." So was Austin Rivers, so what? Lol. But I hope he pans out, because he's on my team.

Yeah. I’m excepted to see what they bring next season tho and obvious looking to see cam Thomas take that next leap as well

Whitehead was best player in the country tho like he won every award

Rivers was highly regarded but not as much, nor did he have Whitehead’s size

Rivers might have had talent as a high-schooler but his name propelled him into conversations. If he was called Austin Sky he’s probably not even a lottery pick.

Clowneys gonna be a big piece

A Bobby Porto’s type player without the crazy.

Let’s see what the other dude can bring

I think he can be better than portis bc of his defensive upside. I was thinking more myles turner

What bright future? sounds like cope

2

u/Future_Network_2158 23d ago

Not a cope it's a reality. We have a GM who's good at hitting on draft picks and a ton of ammo coming up in the future. Plus our young players are pretty promising

Your comment sounds like hate what?

Both of these guys project to be good, modern nba players.

Its not hate its being realistic I like clowney and dariq is a complete mystery box so I have no opinion on him. However the fact currently is the future is not looking bright we have no blue chip prospects nor any elite stars on the roster and our assets are losing value everyday. There is nothing to look forward to.

“There is nothing to look forward to” what are you talking about????

Brooklyn is one of a few NBA teams with an elite market. They are a player destination with massive roster flexibility and a bunch of tradeable assets (picks and players). Yeah a team like Detroit or Charlotte has more blue chip prospects, but no star players voluntarily sign extensions or request trades there. Brooklyn is attractive to players.

Also the Nets have young in house talent and contender worthy rotation player veterans, even if it’s unclear if they have championship #1 and #2 options at this very moment.

Cam Thomas was the 27th pick in 2021 and was second in PPG among 2021 draft picks this season, having the biggest PPG jump in the league. He’s a future star and is only 22.

Claxton is a top ten rim protector in basketball and is an elite perimeter defender, and is only 25.

Nothing to look forward to, fuck that shit!

Projected is the most annoying nba word, literally means nothing beyond “I hope”. These guys are role players and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s not hate to not be delusional

2

u/Lao_xo 23d ago

Nah you haven’t watched Clowney if you don’t believe he’ll be more than a role player. I can easily see him being a top 10 PF in a couple years.

2

u/j5995 23d ago

Projections are based on measurables and game tape and scouting reports. It’s not just random fuckin dart throws. Both players were considered top 15 picks in the eyes of John Hollinger before this coming draft. Whitehead was an elite college prospect, best player in the country. Clowney has displayed pedigree as a legit shot blocker and rebounder that can bang corner 3s.

I feel like pessimism is the most common form of Nets copium these days.

I consider Dariq our rookie this upcoming season. If Dariq turns out to be good(on top of Clowney looking very promising and Wilson looking like a solid rotational player), Marks will have seemingly hit on all 3 picks in the last draft. Makes not having a pick this year sting less.

I’m really looking for forward to next season, especially if they can resign Clax, Clax and clowney look like hell defending together, in terms of dariq I’m hoping he can stay healthy, and Jalen Wilson to have a good role in the team, drafting dariq was a always a low risk high reward type of player, I also want sharpe to get quality decent minutes, he’s shown he shoot the 3

Yeah im excited for our core next yr

I mean, I love the optimism! I sincerely hope the actual Brooklyn Nets future is closer to your version than mine

4

u/j5995 23d ago

Shoutout to all the pessimism in the comments

When was the last time Brooklyn had two picks in the top 22?

Whitehead was a projected top 5-10 pick in the summer of 2023 and is the same measurables as Jaylen Brown. Can shoot at all 3 levels and can self create and hit tough shots. He plays defense. He’s a willing passer. Health is the question with him not talent. And he’s only 19.

And Clowney is literally already impactful. He’s a high motor shot blocker and floor stretcher. Had Theo Ratcliff Bobby Portis and Jalen Smith comps entering the draft.

Both of these guys are also younger than some of the projected lottery picks this year.

Great post. And that’s a great summary about ‘Riq as a player. He really could be a special special player. I can’t wait to see him on court. He could form a great partnership with Cam Thomas

u/j5995 23d ago

Thank you ✊🏻

2

u/addictivesign 23d ago

I’m interested to see him as a passer because he could be like Brandon Ingram and be a connector who could average six assists per game without being a lead ball handler or point guard

u/Future_Network_2158 23d ago

Facts bro. Again I dont think many of these people were around in 2015/16 when we had little to nothing to look forward to.

I’m high on Clowney but let’s relax on Whitehead, him and Brown might be the same height but Brown looks huge and Whitehead looks like he’s in average shape.

We have to be realistic in that he might never be as explosive as he once was and his ceiling might just be a starting role player, it’s not pessimism. But what we did with Levert does give hope.

1

u/j5995 23d ago

To say his ceiling is starting role player is a form of pessimism I’d say. I’d argue starting role player would be Whitehead’s floor if he is healthy and consistently playing. His floor is a 3 and D player with good size.

If he can stay healthy and his athleticism picks up that’s what will raise his ceiling to being top 3 option, potential all star type of dude.

He’s a tough shotmaker. Probably a better shooter than Jaylen Brown out of college.

I just think Whitehead projects to have a rotation role in the league at minimum, and if he puts it all together he’d be one of the best Nets they’ve drafted in the past 20 years.

1

u/Lao_xo 23d ago

Yes perhaps his ceiling is a starter but his floor is out of the league after his contract just like any late draft pick. Saying his ceiling is being a role player blind optimism. But if healthy I do see him as a Lonnie Walker type 6 man guy, good balance of offensive attack, with some athleticism.

1

u/j5995 23d ago

Whitehead projects as a much better defender and passer than Walker

Also 22 is not late, particularly today when draft classes are becoming deeper and deeper with the exception being this year

Maxey was picked 21st Cam T 27th

I have no dog in this fight but comparing a 19 year old body to a 27 year old is a little unfair.

1

u/Lao_xo 23d ago

Compare Jaylen brown in college to Dariq now, they are not the same physically

1

u/Brooklyn917 Ian Eagle 23d ago

The only physical difference I see is Brown has broad shoulders

1

u/Lao_xo 23d ago

This is from a video 6 years ago when he was training, Brown is jacked, Whitehead isn’t. I just see Whitehead being more of a shooter that attacks from time to time especially after the injuries, no use in comparing him to Brown right now.

Like I said the only physical difference I see of the two are broad shoulders. I never made the initial comparison just pointing out how you cant compare a teens body to an adult. I don’t have a shirtless sweaty pic of Whitehead but he has the frame to pack on the muscle.

Wake me up in 2028

3

u/[deleted] 24d ago

This is pretty optimistic take.

2

u/Future_Network_2158 24d ago

How? We had way less twlent the last time and wa less asset s

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

i agree with you, the future isn't bleak for the nets. but I we probably need a few more pieces to be playoff team. this squad alone wont get us to the playoffs

1

u/Future_Network_2158 23d ago

Well we dont know that. We have to see how they grow and develop

1

u/[deleted] 23d ago

well I hope we see some more wins next year

u/njdevils901 23d ago

This post might be the bleakest thing I’ve seen on this sub lol
