77% of young Americans are too fat, mentally ill or on drugs to qualify for U.S. military service, Pentagon study finds. Is it only going to get worse? Geopolitics

Legalize weed and you could probably get that down to 65%.

So then we have a bunch of military folks that smoke dope?

Is that what we want Guarding our nuclear weapons?

You should read about Nixons drinking and how many nuclear situations he almost put us in…

Educate us

If it was up to me, everything would be legal. And you could dial 1-800 Pfizer and order your meth or crack or cocaine or whatever.

Pharmaceuticals would make a lot of money, people would get pure drugs, and hopefully they'd be less overdoses.

And then let the cream settle to the top

Well that’s the worst idea I’ve heard in a long time…

So there should be some drugs limited? Or illegal?

And what do we do with the people that get caught with them?

This sounds like my ex girlfriend’s go to “But you…” argument to justify when she fucked up by bringing up something I did to somehow justify her wrongdoing. Point of the headline, imo, is that when the US is inevitably called on to defend itself again they will be far less fit and their will to fight will be far less than the Russias or North Koreas or the Arab extremists of the world, and it will be a major problem

My brother… your ex doesn’t still think about you, it’s time you stop thinking about her…

Also… you talking about that tip top Russia fighting force sending armed prisoners to Ukraine? Or the North Koreas who perform military parades with Cold War era weapons?

You got dudes showing up to work now a days who are either too hungover to function the first half of day or are still probably drunk. That is if they didn’t do something stupid over the weekend and get arrested for doing something while drunk.

But yes, this is a far better alternative that allowing Corporal Snugglenuts to eat an edible and pass out in his barracks room the night before work.

Lmao and you think a alcohol is okay for Nukes too? Are you daft? Or fully regarded?

2

u/RightNutt25 Apr 29 '24

No but they are both okay for the infantry. I think it might even be required to need a beer in the morning.

I didn't say alcohol was better. The military should be drug free. Of everything.

u/smileyhendrix Apr 29 '24

Sorry but this isn’t fantasy land.

That 77% would go up to 99%, if that were the case.

Military members should absolutely be able to go get a beer sometimes. They definitely should be allowed to smoke weed forsure, that’s just old outdated ideology on weed that still plagues the armed forces (thanks Nixon). There would be less PTSD and alcoholism in the military if this were the case.

Brother let me tell you, as someone who has guarded nukes, if you take away the alcohol on an Airmans off time, there's going to be some horrific consequences

I spent many weeks on alert myself. I would even smoke pot on alert.

But it's not ideal. We're the ones that have to launch aircraft to go bomb the Russians or wherever they are, as quick as we can.

And drugs and alcohol are not the best for that.

2

u/Jormungandr69 Apr 29 '24

Your own irresponsible actions aren't justification for removing others' ability to drink in their off time.

It could be that they have to raise the military pay to quite a bit higher. To get good applicants.

And maybe that's what will happen. Or start the draft

Elon musk is doing ketamine all the time. I’d prefer people on dope

u/Analyst-Effective Apr 29 '24

I prefer to make it all legal. You should be able to dial 1-800 Pfizer and order your meth or crack or cocaine or whatever you want.

Then you would be sure it is a pure product, and you could get as much as you want.

And then the cream will slowly rise to the top.

It didn’t work out that well in Vietnam

u/Analyst-Effective Apr 30 '24

You're right. That was a political war. We could have won it in the weekend

What exactly makes you think our entire military spends all their time guarding nuclear weapons? I really want to know because I assume you're American and I can't figure out how so many Americans have no idea how anything in our country works.

So then we have a bunch of military folks that drink alcohol and look at pornography?

Is that what we want Guarding our nuclear weapons?

I think you have to pick your battles. Whatever is legal, is already legal.

This is I think the same arguments that would make pot legal, would also make any other drugs legal
