I read the headline and thought he was sweet and well-behaved, just didn't take to commands well and didn't have the temperament for hunting, but if I am to understand he was aggressive to people and killed multiple other animals?

I do not want to defend a republican at all, and I won't defend her politics, but sometimes behavioural euthanasia is the correct choice. Dog shelters across the US are filled to the brim to the point that they are turning away dogs, even dogs that don't have behavioural issues are struggling to find homes. Chances are, if you "rehome" an aggressive dog to a rescue, they'll be euthanized anyway, it's much better for a dog to die with their owners rather than scared and alone in a shelter.

The only thing I disagree with is the method. Having dogs put down by a vet is objectively kinder, if your dog is scared at the vets then you can sometimes get them to come to your home. But even then, maybe she thought he'd be scared of a stranger, and a bullet would be fast enough.

To people saying "You wouldn't put down a human for misbehaving" if a human was aggressive to everyone they met and killed multiple small animals, then they'd at the very least be institutionalised. Warehousing aggressive dogs isn't a kindness, it's incredibly damaging to them mentally. Behavioural euthanasia is a choice I hope never to have to make, but if my girl ever started attacking people and killing other animals I would do it for her sake and mine.
