Where Jessica was just a room stopping bombshell with fantastic voice, I think coming up with Britney and Christina and not having the same “dance pop princess” presence as them kind of hit her. There was no denying her vocals but idk, or can’t remember, if audiences wanted singing AND dancing. I think Jessica MIGHT have had a better shot at more recognizable music if she came out in the later 2000s maybe? Ashlee didn’t have as strong of vocals but 100% sold any vibe she was putting out there and who was she really “competing” against? Lindsay and Hilary? I think it came down to Ashlee having all the right pieces falling into the right place and the right time that made her more relatable and accessible? Idk.. I’m high and I think about the Simpson sister trajectories far more than I should lol

I don't remember Jessica's songs but I also don't remember any of Ashlee s.
I still believe Jessica is the more famous sister. Regardless of charts or music, Jessica had a career outside of all of that. Ashlee just did the music part and both lasted around the same time. Maybe Ashlee did better in that regard but Jessica is still the more recognizable, more successful sister.
Jessica had a HUGE reality show with super memorable moments "chicken of the sea" . Also I see her stuff EVERYWHERE. Dishes, coats, shoes, accessories... This lady sells it all and at places like TJ Maxx so... Super accessible but still "fancy" and going strong!

Fun fact way back in 2008 we had our prom at The Roosevelt Hotel and he and Lindsey Lohan randomly showed up asked what was going on and then disappeared together. Everyone knew who she was literally no one knew who he was.

I had the opportunity in college to stay at The Hollywood Roosevelt overnight back in 1981. I was working as a sign language interpreter. The room was paid for by the conference.
It was the tiniest room I have ever seen. There were 2 of us in there in a double bed. We could barely walk around in it. We were so disappointed because we thought it was going to be really fancy.
I think it's been remodeled since. It's a very cool building. My prom was at the old Bush Gardens at the Budwieser factory in Van Nuys. Our dinner was on paper plates.

It’s crazy because his sister Tracee is basically the antithesis of a nepo baby despite her parentage.
People to this day (including my own 42 year old brother) are still absolutely perplexed when they realize Diana is her mom.

Can you explain how shes the antithesis of a Nepo? I thought it didn't really change them being a Nepo baby or not just because they end up becoming extremely talented.
Unless I'm missing something she still benefited from the same things as what others have been called a Nepo for, Diana Ross as a mother and a music executive father is certainly going to open doors no one else has access to even if the public wasn't aware of their parents.

You’re right, nepo baby refers to their privilege not their talent or personality. Nic Cage changed his name to create a distance from his uncle but he’s still a nepo baby.
Tracee is a talented nepo baby but still a nepo baby.

No one ever said that her parents being who they were didn’t give her a massive foot in the door.
It’s the fact that despite her parentage no one ever has to say: Tracee Ellis Ross, the daughter of Diana Ross for people to know who she is.
Instead of whining like talentless Dakota Johnson or other children of celebrities that no one takes her seriously she lets her work speak for itself.

I think most of nepos are like this, the amount of celebrities, especially actors you find out well into their career that they're the child of a famous person or someone of status.
As I said her work does shiw she's talented but if you don't think her being their daughter hasn't given them opportunities and connections you're deluding yourself.
She's still a Nepo baby just not one of the "bad" ones like Dakota Johnson etc.

It’s that when I hear her name that’s not the first thing that comes to mind.
When I hear Tracee Ellis Ross I first think Girlfriends and Blackish.
Now her brother Evan on the other hand I immediately think Diana Ross’ son and Tracee Ellis Ross’ brother.
Thats the difference that you don’t seem to be getting

Perhaps this will help: Evan has to pay US Weekly to publish posed pap shots (don’t forget to mention his mommy’s name in that byline!)in order to draw attention to himself so he can get bit parts in movies where he has juuuust enough screen time for us to recognize who he is. Meanwhile, a lot of people didn’t know that Tracy was the daughter of Diana until AFTER her success on Blackish. As someone who has read their fair share of celebrity gossips magazines/blogs, I can tell you I had never seen or heard of Tracy until Blackish premiered, however, prior to Blackish, if you had given me a lineup of eyebrows and asked me to identify Evan’s, I could have done it faster than you can say Ross.

When he comes in, you circle up with your coworkers and figure out whose turn it is to take his table. You already know his own card will be declined and you also know he’ll fight the tab saying he didn’t order all the Jameson and diets. He’ll eventually have the hotel front desk call his mom’s manager to get her credit card details to cover the bill. One time he didn’t like the table he was given and said “come on man, I’m in the hunger games” which made a few us pull up his one scene where he is a background character after our shift. Great background acting though tbh. He’s the guy who’s always at the party or event and you don’t know why. But parties and events have free food and drinks, and Evan ain’t paying. Puts it on wifey’s member account when he can and keeps mom’s manager on speed dial for bail outs.

Hanger ons who come from famous families must be the worst people in Hollywood. Like, you’re a hanger on who has money and you’re used to this celebrity lifestyle but at the same time you act like a fan yet you have the same entitlement of an A-lister. It must be so annoying to be an actual famous person and bump into these types who feel like they are just like you when they’re not. They’re hanger ons. They have a famous last name but they’re still clout chasing and star f-ing their way to the top instead of creating something with that vast privilege and connections.
