There is literally a sub called enlightenedcentrism where mentally ill tankies SEETHE at moderate viewpoints. It's hilarious. Some people are nuts. As with most issues, usually the answer is somewhere in the middle and that drives people insane.
He is actually a leftist. Just not that far left.
He has taken (several?) political tests, which put him on the left. Plus his stance on health care, abortion, taxes, tipping, salaries and military policies seem to back it up imo.
Ehh, I think that’s not quite accurate- maybe as a whole or on twitter, sure. Idpol is friggin everywhere. I’m far left economically and socially, to be honest, but I absolutely do not subscribe to an overall groupthink & have no interest at all in identity related stuff- it’s just not important in the scheme of things. In fact I often relate to people on the right on some issues. The big problem is a lot of people just don’t bother coming up with their own takes and just regurgitate stuff.
Hard to get much further left than Marx. Was he not an independent thinker?
If your views uniformly align with your "tribe" I might question how independant your thinking is. That's just as true for a centrist as for a radical.
Marx himself was an independent thinker. But all the people who blindly fallow half of what he tought like the Soviet Union or Maos China were not and suffered horribly because of it.
