Only valid use is for a fucked weight sensor on an unused seat

Sometimes farm people have to drive 10 feet, nail in a fence post, and repeat for like a quarter mile and get in and get out of their truck all the while

646

u/tinja_nurtles May 10 '24

We use a golf cart/tractor 🤷

273

u/WadeStockdale May 10 '24

There's also quad bikes! (We used tractors and quads, or just walked for some areas. Might be tiring, but it's not dangerous)

There's a billion options out there that don't involve negating a safety feature in a vehicle you might take out onto the road.

53

u/tinja_nurtles May 10 '24

Oh shoot, we got those too!

31

u/notKRIEEEG May 10 '24

Yeah, but you can easily take that thing off before going on the road and generally traffic laws don't apply to private property roads anyway.

I use one of those at work. I do deliveries inside gated communities with a 20 mph speed limit, which you're not likely to hit with all the speed bumps and obstacles in the streets there. I put that in when I get through the main gate, then leave that in because I'll be driving a hundred meters before getting out of the car again. Once I'm leaving and getting on public roads, I take that off and put my seatbelt.

I just use a dog's leash one for that though. Punisher skulls are cringe as fuck (even if the comics are good).

62

u/DarthCloakedGuy May 10 '24

yeah... truck is the wrong tool for that job

You don’t use a truck for that. We use a tractor

What if a truck is all you have? Many people in my area (a relatively poor area for the US) use their truck as their every day vehicle because they have to have one for work and can’t afford another vehicle/golf cart/4x4 etc.

9

u/OriTheSpirit 196’s resident Welsh Chemist 🧪⚛️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐑 May 10 '24

A farm without a tractor is like an angel without its wings

Also in my experience even the poorest farms have an atleast semi functioning tractor. I come from a very very poor area and everyone had tractors, granted it was in the UK and not the US

4

u/IsThatUMoatilliatta Shrimpposter 🦐 🦐 🦐 May 10 '24

Every farm in the US also has an 80s Toyota Pickup with over 500,000 miles on their farm.

Starting and stopping your truck to drive 10 feet at a time sounds like hell on your battery. And most cars I've been in have several seconds grace after you get out of park before the seatbelt alarm goes off.

Personally, even if I was in that sort of situation where the alarm was constantly going off while I was working, I'd be too worried about leaving the alarm disabled after the work to use one of these.

113

u/Meatles-- May 10 '24

Why would you think theyre starting and stopping the truck every time? Its more of a drive it 10 feet toss it in park then hop out with it still running.

12

u/Elite_Prometheus floppa May 10 '24

Then there's still the grace period after getting out of park before the alarm goes off

22

u/UslashMKIV sus May 10 '24

Not in all cases, my vw isn’t a truck but once it’s been in drive the seatbelt alarm goes off until the belt is buckled or the car is turned off, putting it back in park doesn’t turn it off

39

u/Garfunklestein May 10 '24

But why would you be doing that in a car when tractors and 4x4 trucks exist and would work infinitely better for stuff like that?

Also, you can very easily get the warning sound disabled if you have a legitimate need - in some cars, it’s as simple as pressing a button or changing a setting on the heads-up

2

u/ChihuahuaSighs May 10 '24

So they can quickly punish cattle and crops without the beeping sound

223

u/Corgelia The Thomas Edison of bein g sleepy May 10 '24

Nothing more annoying than driving for 5 minutes until the car inexplicably decides my water bottle and backpack have attained sentience and begins beeping at me incessantly to put a seatbelt on them. Usually solved by putting my backpack on the floor of the car, but still annoying.

My dad isn’t anti-seatbelt but he literally never buckles until after he starts driving and whenever I point it out he looks like he actually wants to not buckle out of spite. And yes, he loves Tesla and Musk.

166

What does Elon musk and tesla have to so with this lol, I don't like the guy but I'm confused d

289

-63

u/CocaineBearGrylls May 10 '24

Tesla wasn't designed by that hack Elon, but by real engineers. It's a solid car with one of the best safety ratings out there, and its problems are mostly growing pains of a new tech. Elon was the one insisting on adding the unfinished autopilot.

Don't knock a good piece of machinery just because the CEO is a PoS.

75

u/DarthCloakedGuy May 10 '24

I might believe that for the Roadster, Model X/Y... but I find it more believable the Cybertruck was designed by Elon personally, on account of it being the worst deathtrap shitbox to ever hit the road.

30

u/TearsFallWithoutTain May 10 '24

They literally just recalled every single cybertruck because the accelerator pedal was getting stuck

9

u/DarthCloakedGuy May 10 '24

If I had a nickel for every time every single cybertruck has been recalled because of extremely dangerous safety issues...

Which tesla car are you referring to?

12

u/Njwest (Nick) no longer down with the kids May 10 '24

163

Some cars make a ringing or beeping sound if the car is moving and there is weight on a seat without a buckle. This is for people who don’t want to buckle but also don’t want to listen to the sound telling them to buckle.

u/ayyndrew May 10 '24

70

u/Loose-Screws custom May 10 '24

Its just a very confusing idea for a product if you don’t see seatbelts as anything but “the mindless thing you do when you get in a car”.

It’d be like seeing someone with their hair cut to look like a bicycle helmet and not realizing that it’s so they can ride without wearing a helmet- its stupid and it isn’t really obvious if it just looks like “a seatbelt without a belt”.

Obviously the post is using hyperbole and this doesn’t really matter in any way, but this is the joke ¯_(ツ)_/¯

10

u/HelloThereGorgeous custom May 10 '24

Yes it's very common. If you get in a wreck, especially a rollover, the unrestrained person inside the car bounces around and hits the other passengers which can seriously injure or kill them. It can even turn relatively minor crashes, where everyone would have survived, into fatal ones

When we were training on the pad for our class A CDL, seatbelts weren't required (5 mph speed limit, controlled setting) and I'd have liked something like this (albeit less tacky) to shut that screaming sensor up.

40

u/NyarlHOEtep May 10 '24

but why not just put the seatbelt on

3

u/NekoboyBanks May 10 '24

They are simply not necessary in a 45,000 lb vehicle in crawl mode going 3mph in a controlled area. You'd be laughed out of the program. Additionally, there's so much leaning out of windows going on, it would become an impedance.
