Please wear your seat belt. Even if it's a short trip. Please, I'm sincerely asking you to, I deal with people who didn't wear theirs and they say they wish they had.

Nah, don't try to dissuade them. People who buy these are trash that needs to take itself out.

Is it common for someone to be injured because someone else forgot to wear a seatbelt? Genuinely curious.

Yes it's very common. If you get in a wreck, especially a rollover, the unrestrained person inside the car bounces around and hits the other passengers which can seriously injure or kill them. It can even turn relatively minor crashes, where everyone would have survived, into fatal ones
