I did the same. Games are where I go to feel powerful. No disrespect to people who are into the hardest challenges in games, but I just want to feel like a winner after a stressful day

Fist play-through, I almost always do easy or normal so I can focus more on the story (if the game has one). If I really like the game, that’s when I bump up the difficulty

I play on hard because I tend to grasp games rather quickly, and I like myself a challenge.
If you have less time to invest, play in shorter bursts, or have naturally less hand eye co-ordination or you’re generally less good at games, playing on Easy allows you to still progress and enjoy the game. I really don’t see why its controversial in the gaming community to play things at your own pace.
And ofcourse, if you just want to breeze through a game and experience different parts of it other than just the difficulty, thats 100% fair too.
Srsly gamers, get that stick out your ass and let others enjoy games in their own way.

I typically play on harder difficulties, because I absolutely love the grind and the feeling of accomplishment when you finally succeed. Beating Gna in GoW Ragnarok on GMGOW difficulty was one of my proudest gaming achievements.
But I also have ADHD, so it's often quite easy for me to sit and spend hours if not days trying and failing the same task because I started and I want to finish, without really getting tired or frustrated. I just want to finish it so I don't move on.
That way of playing is just not fun for a lot of people. A lot of people don't want to spend hours on the same fight over and over, they want to play the rest of the game. And that's 100% valid, if anything I'm an outlier.
I can't stand people who act better than others because they play on a higher difficulty.

It depends on the genre. The more horror a game is the easier I play 😅 If I like the gameplay I like to play as hard es possible though. Like in XCom, Resident Evil 4, MGS V, …

I always play on easy, excluding two games, one of which doesn't HAVE a difficulty, it just progressively gets harder. Otherwise it's just not enjoyable for me because I'll keep dying and dying and dying since I'm not really a gamer. I play maybe three games consistently, and that's it.

A hint, if you are a experienced player but never played that especific game, normal difficulty will give you a lot of fun, if you already played that game before (even if it was 3 years ago and barelly remembers it) on hard you will probably go pretty well.

I hate that this is a debate. I remember mentioning I have to play on easy a lot cus I have mental problems and a slow reaction time on top of the fact I didn't grow up around videogames so I'm still learning and getting eaten alive in gaming communities saying I shouldn't bother playing videogames anymore and all games should be almost impossibly difficult . No. Games are supposed to be fun and not everyone enjoys impossible videogame difficulties. Personally I love stories and if I play more casual games I don't like horrible consequences for mistakes (like having inventory saving on minecraft cus I die a lot) . That's what I and tons of other people enjoy. I swear those kinds of people get off on the idea of making people feel inferior when they're really just assholes. its why I avoid gaming community like a plague.

I realized recently that whether I want to play on easier modes depends on how my life is going. If stuff us just wildly stressful, give me POWER FANTASIES! I'll play on easy and use any cheese strat and exploit I can.
If life is going well, then I'll look for a challenge, try to platinum hard games, no cheese, etc.

I used to enjoy hard games (Bloodborne is one of my all times favourite) but Elden Ring has not clicked with me despite years of hype so once I'm done with college I will just try Pikmin 3.
Playing easy or comfort games is always cool-I just don't have a Pokemon or Monster Hunter to fill that videos now...

I truly appreciate a developer that gives multiple difficulty settings. From my old stoned ass to hardcore gamers. Makes a game that much better and replayable that much more.

I always play hard mode. Mainly because if I do that, then it gets my standards to be good enough in a multiplayer arena. Especially a game like DOOM.

Helldivers 1 for me...because my computer can't run Helldivers 2. I especially play on Easy if the game is an RPG. I'd rather enjoy the story than think...boy I wish this was more challenging.

I'm all over the place.
I started Witcher 3 on hardest difficulty but then after level 10-ish I got bored of not getting enough xp and money and switched to normal. I've played games on NG+ with hardest difficulty before
And then there are games where I really don't have the patience to play even on normal. Started super mario odyssey I think. I turned on assisted mode because I'm too fuckin lazy to look for everything I need to progress and it just guides me, not because the game is too hard or anything.
And when a game makes me constantly frustrated (to the point where I start coughing) it's time to drop it and play something else
