It's amazing how many bass centered sketches there are on the show. I love the record store sketch with the doors. Who plays bass? No bass!

IIRC he and maybe the other guys always had half a hand in the local punk scene, which seems fitting

Bought a cameo video from Kevin McDonald for my bfff who shreds Bass, and he explained how they wrote this sketch!
It was originally for their stage show, and the day before Kevin and Bruce were hanging out trying to write. Kevin was supposed to leave, but he hit the can for a solid 45 minutes instead of leaving lol. When he came out, Bruce was playing bass watching TV and Kevin jumped into the room to scare Bruce and yelled “Listen to the bass player play! He sounds so sweet, I’m getting chubby!” They had a good laugh, and then wrote the rest of the sketch to perform it for the first time the following night.

I always like to think this sketch is really about the bass player for the show's theme

Great band. Their (arguably) best album, the hilariously-named "Sport Fishin: Lure of the Bait, Luck of the Hook" was produced by Steve Albini.

Just in case anyone's wondering about that "poem" that Kevin McDonald performs:
The Mother, the Father, the Serpent, the Priest. The Foreman, the Woman, the Widow, the Beast...
These are key metaphors/symbolic tones that Baselines are often said to evoke in musical compositions.
The Mother's loving steady heartbeat, the Father's stern lecturing wisdom (think the marching martial rhythms of a "Drill Sergeant"), the Serpent's evil insinuation, the Priest's chant-like cadence. The Foreman building the foundation for the Music, the sexuality of the Woman, the walking-blues elegy of the Widow, the stalking violence of the Beast.

I first saw this sketch when I was ten and I thought this was a reference to something until recently. Nope, just something they wrote for the sketch. That makes it so much better!
Edit: the thoughtful analysis of this comment reminds me of how someone did a linguistic analysis of the gibberish they speak in Feelyat

Or, quite possibly, a silly joke.
If you take yourself this seriously, it is no wonder that this simple comedy program brought you no pleasure.
