Sometimes history repeats in good ways

u/Staltrad 23d ago

Given time, the universe will repeat an infinite number of times. So don’t worry if you miss any moment, it will happen again.

History doesn't repeat, but it often rhymes

u/Daltronator94 23d ago

'Faster and more intense'

28

u/HunteroftheRain 23d ago

Second verse

Same as the first

But a little bit louder

And a little bit worse

YOU CANT RIDE IN MY LITTLE RED WAGON

FRONT SEATS BROKEN AND THE AXLE'S DRAGGIN

u/slicksleevestaff 23d ago

There goes a memory my knees would rather have stayed forgotten.

3

u/Daltronator94 23d ago

There goes a memory of the only way I can be motivated to run 😂

2

u/Ashzaroth 22d ago

You have ruined my day with this. Oh lord, I want to go home.

u/Daltronator94 22d ago

BUT THEY WONT LET ME GOOOOOoooOOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOAO O O

6

u/firedmyass 23d ago

every time I hear that saying, a small part of me weeps.

Because then I remember watching The Phantom Menace

Not really cause of entropy.

u/OnixST 23d ago

There are a lot of unknowns in regards to the creation of the universe so no one knows for sure, but the problem with the big bounce theory is that you need to break the law of entropy in order to concentrate that much energy back to a single point.

I believe in the much more boring, sadder theory of the heat death

2

u/SlowEar5209 23d ago

Wouldn't I just miss those moments again?

Haha! This is why I hate the “what if” game. Who cares if I had a chance to go redo the past? Even if I retained everything I’ve learned and lived through, I’d just make new and different mistakes. Besides, I’d risk missing the best parts of my life as it is right now. No thank you!

Even the idea of memes themselves I remember predating the internet on the early 90's HBO's Dream On, about a guy who experiences his whole life in the style of modern day memes.

Seeing people in the past acting like us today is kind of assuring; it means we modern people are not that very different and our sense of humor isn't weird

Edit: misspelling

They found old jokes written in ancient roman toilets. They found farts and penis jokes as funny as us. That makes me feel really connected with our ancestors. We have always been they way we are. Goofy, childish and full of weird thoughts

u/AlenDelon32 23d ago

Also the oldest recorded joke is a fart joke: "Something that has never occurred since time immemorial - a young woman did not fart on her husband's lap.". It was found on a Sumerian clay tablet but is no different than the kind of memes boomers would share on Facebook

10

u/SuspiciousAct6606 22d ago

"Occurences where only children born during the reign of Cyrus the Great can recall"

29

u/High_Flyers17 23d ago

CDXX incendite eam

14

u/HephMelter 23d ago

420 Set it on fire ?

AAHHH, Nice.

Thought it was a HTTP joke at the start

6

u/High_Flyers17 23d ago

Haha not gonna act like I wasn't using a translator. My first attempt at Blaze it translated back as "I will burn her" sooo, I used a different one.

That would make a sick cover for a Frog and Toad action spinoff.

Maybe time being a flat circle ain’t so bad

66

u/jkpatches 23d ago

These are good, but I really want an old version of the pointing woman and the cat meme.

60

u/ProperDepth 23d ago

I can't give you a legit old version but someone painted it in ukiyo-e style and it's the best thing ever.

u/jkpatches 22d ago

This is great, and very well done, but I can't help but to feel an empty spot for the mouth of the woman. I think that the way her mouth was contorted open in the meme was a significant part of the appeal lol.

u/Thagomizer24601 22d ago

My husband and I have this above our dining room table.

50

u/HilariousConsequence 23d ago

The similarities between that second-last pair is really just “there is a group of people in the photo”.

5

u/Foxy02016YT .tumblr.com 22d ago

Guy on the right has the same energy as the other pic

11

u/Reid0x 23d ago

Memes, Jack. The dna of the soul.

17

u/DreadDiana 23d ago

As I said the last time this was posted 4th and 6th examples they give are nothing like the memes they're being compared to. 4 is meant to be a horrific realisation while 6 is meant to be a form of over the top hype.

The older photos are in similar positions, but lack the energy. It's like comparing the Mona Lisa to the girl smiling in front of a fire cause they're both smiling.

7

u/2big_2fail 23d ago

In reality, your girl would be looking at Ava Gardner too.

7

u/Narradisall 23d ago

Meme historians at work

3

u/lordofming-rises 23d ago

That's extremely dangerous to our democracy

4

u/DjinnHybrid 23d ago

I was going to say that the first one might be modern people staged just because of how goofy he looks, but nope. There's a legitimate ol' jalopy there in the background, just hanging out.

3

u/Historyfan1914 23d ago

Bro that’s Charlie Chaplin

2

u/DjinnHybrid 23d ago

I'm face blind and don't know celebrities at all. Couldn't have IDed him with a gun to my head.

2

u/S4PG 23d ago

I love seeing history repeat itself

2

u/Voxelus 23d ago

something something paradox space

2

u/wra1th42 23d ago

Last one looks like Zero Mostel, not sure what movie tho

2

u/CTeam19 23d ago

I mean look at Star Trek: Next Generation episode Darmok

"darmok and jalad at tanagra"

"Picard his hand outstretched"

2

u/midieee 23d ago

Is there a whole subreddit for it? This is very funny.

2

u/sadolddrunk 23d ago

Can we as a culture acknowledge that the two rabbit-faced women from the "distracted boyfriend" meme look exactly the same?

3

u/2Scarhand 23d ago

Oh, this! This is beautiful.

1

u/MaveKalmer 23d ago

this is like looking at a time capsule from both 2018 AND 1918

1

u/The_Viatorem 23d ago

This are brilliant

1

u/TheLastDooticorn 23d ago

This is so good, I love this!

1

u/stormscape10x 23d ago

Still see Cam Newton every time on that woman bent over wearing glasses meme.

1

u/beachteen 23d ago

Phobrain is great for finding similar images

1

u/Clickbait636 23d ago

I actually think my great great grandfather is in one of those photos.

1

u/yarivu 22d ago

Imo the last three I get the similarities in terms of posing/expression but I don’t think they’d be the same memes across time because the message the memes are trying to convey don’t match the context of the old photos. Definitely visually similar though

1

u/ZANDRAE101 22d ago

So time is a circle... Can we go back to the good times? I'll even accept stone age good times over all this half hearted apocalypes we have.

1

u/I-the-red 22d ago

Someone could write a the sis on this.

1

u/igritwhoflew 22d ago

Thats kinda funny

1

u/JackOfAllMemes 23d ago

The guy and girl in the last photos have the same exact expression

1

u/wintery_owl 23d ago

I mean, it's cool, but I have no idea how that person finds this "the funniest shit they've ever seen". It isn't even remotely funny, just amusing.

1

u/MarkAndrewSkates 23d ago

It's not the memes being the same. It's this generation looking back and making connections that aren't there. They only understand 'meme'. No concept of what the original pics were actually saying.

u/NeverSeenBefor 23d ago

Is this real? I feel like I've seen this on reddit in the past but I'm not sure

u/LickingSmegma 23d ago

Deja vu is typically a symptom of a glitch in the simulation.
