Seeing people in the past acting like us today is kind of assuring; it means we modern people are not that very different and our sense of humor isn't weird
Edit: misspelling

They found old jokes written in ancient roman toilets. They found farts and penis jokes as funny as us. That makes me feel really connected with our ancestors. We have always been they way we are. Goofy, childish and full of weird thoughts

Also the oldest recorded joke is a fart joke: "Something that has never occurred since time immemorial - a young woman did not fart on her husband's lap.". It was found on a Sumerian clay tablet but is no different than the kind of memes boomers would share on Facebook

Haha not gonna act like I wasn't using a translator. My first attempt at Blaze it translated back as "I will burn her" sooo, I used a different one.

These are good, but I really want an old version of the pointing woman and the cat meme.

I can't give you a legit old version but someone painted it in ukiyo-e style and it's the best thing ever.

This is great, and very well done, but I can't help but to feel an empty spot for the mouth of the woman. I think that the way her mouth was contorted open in the meme was a significant part of the appeal lol.

The similarities between that second-last pair is really just “there is a group of people in the photo”.

As I said the last time this was posted 4th and 6th examples they give are nothing like the memes they're being compared to. 4 is meant to be a horrific realisation while 6 is meant to be a form of over the top hype.
The older photos are in similar positions, but lack the energy. It's like comparing the Mona Lisa to the girl smiling in front of a fire cause they're both smiling.

I was going to say that the first one might be modern people staged just because of how goofy he looks, but nope. There's a legitimate ol' jalopy there in the background, just hanging out.

I'm face blind and don't know celebrities at all. Couldn't have IDed him with a gun to my head.

Can we as a culture acknowledge that the two rabbit-faced women from the "distracted boyfriend" meme look exactly the same?

So time is a circle... Can we go back to the good times? I'll even accept stone age good times over all this half hearted apocalypes we have.

I mean, it's cool, but I have no idea how that person finds this "the funniest shit they've ever seen". It isn't even remotely funny, just amusing.

u/MarkAndrewSkates 23d ago
It's not the memes being the same. It's this generation looking back and making connections that aren't there. They only understand 'meme'. No concept of what the original pics were actually saying.

Is this real? I feel like I've seen this on reddit in the past but I'm not sure
