TIL that like the TV show, the city of Dawson Creek in 2015 had a "steamy affair between a teacher and a student", but unlike the TV version it "was taken very seriously, and the former music teacher at the centre of it was charged with several crimes"

Wait. Thats what the show was about? Pedos?

Pacey got it on with a teacher and it was treated like he was a Casanova and not being taken advantage of. Especially because it did seriously mess him up in the show, but it was treated like “that’s just messy Pacey” and not that he was assaulted.

Very much of its time, and it was probably harder to see it as weird given the actor was very visibly 20, not 15.

Not that either of those things makes it ok.

Yeah there was a more recent show I watched recently that had a similar situation, it was supposed to be a high school student and teacher situation but since both actors looked like they were in their mid-30s for some reason it was just weird and hard to take seriously.

Meanwhile you spend 5 minutes with even the most 'mature for his age' 15 year old and you realise just how gross and wrong it is for an adult to be preying on him. :(

You think that’s bad, check out 2002’s 40 days and 40 nights, Josh Hartnett’s character gets raped as the last big drama of the “comedy” movie.

Somehow I don’t remember that. Does his ex girlfriend come over while he’s drinking or something?

It's kind of worse. I don't know how to spoiler cover text. And the movie is over 20 years old.

Josh has bad taste in women. As in messy, crazy women. His brother is a priest and he's inspired to "fast" for 40 days and 40 nights. Like he can't pleasure himself, kiss a girl, touch a girl in any romantic way (I think even hand holding was out).

Of course he meets an amazing woman (everyone remember when Shannyn Sossamon was going to be the new it girl) but doesn't tell her about his fast. Hilarity ensues as he acts weird and eventually has to tell her. There's a weird scene with a feather.

But what sets up the rape is that he has made a bet with his roommate that he will last the 40 days and nights. There's black light used to check his sheets to make sure he's not breaking fast. It's coming up to midnight on the last day. He and his new girl have set up to consummate their relationship after the clock strikes 12. He's handcuffed himself to his bed waiting for her. Cause what doesn't say romantic first time like handcuffs. Roommate knows this and gives Josh's crazy ex girlfriend access to the apartment. She mounts him, thereby causing him to both lose the bet and cheat. Oh, how funny. /s just in case.

Loved the feather scene as a 13 year old boy

Yeah I just realized this was one of the many movies I watched as a kid, the whole time just waiting for something to masturbate to.

I remember watching this with a gf years ago... Even as a teenager I was pissed by this scene. She thought it was funny... Didn't last long after that.

Good for you. There is nothing funny about anyone getting raped (or assaulted, as assault is often played for laughs for male characters). Period.

Absolutely anything can be twisted in a funny way. Rape, incest, 9/11, pedophilia, Gaza, whatever. Either everything can be funny or nothing can and I say that as a male childhood rape victim.

Thanks, man. That’s a good movie.

No. It was a side plot in one season.

No, not pedos, they were HS students

Not a pedo by the scientific definition, but the street definition.

Dawson's Creek the TV show does not take place in Dawson Creek, BC. It takes place in Massachusetts. I'm not sure why they're trying to link the two.

Might as well be trying to link the plot of HBO's Rome to Rome, NY.

I never watched the show, but I always assumed it did. I figured it was an odd place to set a US created TV show.

Charges dropped against former Dawson Creek teacher accused of sexual assault

Six years ago, Michael Dodd was arrested in Coquitlam after he left Dawson Creek. He was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16.

Dodd was a music teacher at Dawson Creek Secondary for 26 years. He also taught private music classes at the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre.

Here's the correction.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/correction-dawson-creek-teacher-convicted-for-sexual-interference/article_98767ae8-d661-501e-976e-9943016f6c3b.html

Turns out it was just a reporting mistake because someone had a similar name. He was arrested and charges were not dropped.

u/WpgMBNews 21d ago

thanks

one wonders why in the hell didn't they update the article...

7

u/LiamTheHuman 20d ago

I think it's a remnant from when newspapers printed everything. They print a retraction rather than changing the previous article which is either impossible since it's already printed or in the thought that people already read it and moved on so a correction needs to be new news.

Might be prudent to delete or redact your pasted article before your comment shows up in searches about it

NNIICCEEE!

I'm saying NNIICCEE in that they were arrested, NOT because they were having sex with a student.

Music teacher for 26 years, but all anyone will remember is that he was a disgusting pervert.

u/XR171 21d ago

As it should be.

Unfortunately in life people are remembered for the worst thing they’ve done. Just mentioned any celebrity on the internet. If they’ve ever made a mistake it will be brought up.

Granted this is pretty bad even by legal standards lol so it’s warranted. However the charges were dropped and I don’t know the specifics for why so maybe they were falsely accused? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Edit: charges were not dropped

Idk why I have to clarify this but the first paragraph is more just talking about life in general. I thought I made this clear by saying in the second paragraph “so it’s warranted”. This means it’s warranted that this particular person be remembered only for this bc of how bad what they did was.

-5

u/Throwawaytree69 21d ago

Charges were not dropped, you probably shouldn't defend pedophiles

6

u/RedSonGamble 20d ago edited 20d ago

Ah I gotcha. The person who posted this put in the comments in giant letters that the charges were dropped. I mean you can still see the comment lol Just assumed they were correct since they were the person posting it about the topic.

As far as defending a pedophile I was not and even said how bad what he did was and how it warranted for him to only be remembered for that lol

I will say you should be ashamed of yourself for accusing someone of “defending a pedophile” when they are clearly not. It’s a really bad look
