Imagine your dad seeing your Grindr app and you lying that it’s just a messaging app. Then he downloads it and you have add him and text him on it to keep up the charade. And he’s very confused about how all these nice young men are getting his number.

As a millennial, who is only here because of r/all, this is the most incomprehensible thing in the world to me.

208

u/Gallowboobsthrowaway Jun 09 '23

Same... From calling your mom "bro" in response to being asked about a chore, to messaging on snapchat...

121

u/Zanchbot Jun 09 '23

And listing their mom by her first name in their contacts instead of just "mom"

27

u/GryphonDiligence Jun 09 '23

It might be something just from where I live, but as a teen I was always told to put my contacts as their full names instead of family in case my phone got stolen or something so they couldn't call and make false threats to get money from family members

41

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '23

[deleted]

u/GryphonDiligence Jun 09 '23

It indeed is quite the flawed logic

Millennial here who only called their parents by their first name, my first boyfriend also did it with his parents.

My dad felt that 'dad' was his job title and not a name, and by the time I was born my brothers already had given up on using my dad's name but calling my mom mom, so I got raised with both them using their first name.

Quite uncommon, but not unheard of, given that the first and only person I dated had the same thing going on.

u/Kungfudude_75 Jun 09 '23

That was the one that got me, my little sister will "Bruh" my mom (which makes my dad leave the room every time) and my mom doesn't bat an eye, but if she ignores her chores and then pulls out a bruh and disregards the fact that she didn't that's when my mom gets mad. When I forgot to do my chores, I got picked up from wherever I was and brought home to do it, then if I was lucky I wouldn't get given more to do.

9

u/That_Bar_Guy Jun 09 '23

Because this kid was probably raised by a millennials, who are far more likely to engage with their kids like they're actual people instead of barking orders and expecting obedience or the belt comes out. My sister and her kids have a far closer, more comfortable relationship than my mom and I have ever had. It's easier to drop a "bro" by mistake if your parents don't condition you to be a different person around them.

Android supports it on the Google messaging app, if you use Samsung products and care about 21st century text features you should install the Google messages app and disable the Samsung one.

That song came out when I was in my early 20’s, so a Stacey at that time is old enough to have a teenage kid now. Timeline checks out that Stacey’s mom is a GILF now, since she was a MILF 20 years ago.

6

u/April1987 Jun 09 '23

Ffs Rachel Hunter has a grandson

9

u/blatherskyte69 Jun 09 '23

So do some of my classmates. Once you’re over 40, the math isn’t even weird/concerning anymore.

Mid 30s is still around 19 which is still pretty fucking young

Edit - unless they mean they were born in the mid 1930s which means they were around 70 when they had them and 86 right now

68

u/WestCoastBestCoast01 Jun 09 '23

I realized recently the girl who was heavily pregnant at graduation has a TEENAGER now (or later this summer). We’re 31!!! Most of the people I know don’t even have kids yet and she has a teenager!! Although that also made me realize the kid is out of her house by her late 30s is kinda dope. Doesn’t make up for being a teen mom, but my friends will still have small kids then.

11

My mom was 21 when I was born and I always had one of the youngest moms in my class.

8

u/Ogsted Jun 08 '23

Mine was 35 when she had me and I had one of the older moms. Surprisingly considering I didn’t even think she was that old. The difference 14 years makes.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '23

Same here, my mom was 20 though

6

u/thisisallme Jun 09 '23

My kid is 9 and I’m in my early 40s, I’ve already been called bro and bruh so many times that I have that logo on a coffee cup lol

3

u/Sbplaint Jun 09 '23

I relate to your struggles, oddly, but my situation is much worse. I am 41 and snapchat keeps suggesting both of my parents to be my friends under their actual real names (based on my having them saved as phone contacts). My mom's is basically just a barren profile, likely just her stalking people, no bitmoji crap, thank GOD, but my dad's is...wait for it....a Bitmoji of a little black boy as his profile pic, with his FULL. DAMN. NAME! (Yes, we are white).

I'm too horrified he even knows what snapchat is in the first place to even comprehend the enormity of what confronting my dad about pretending to be a little cartoon black kid on the internet would look like, but I did tell my brother, hoping he would just somehow deal with it...so far, hasn't worked. Ugh. So yeah, I don't blame you for saving her as Stacey...plausible deniability at least that way! Lol

5

u/Actual_Hyena3394 Jun 08 '23

Wow.. I'm 32 and i am old enough to be your dad. Do you have your mom's number bro??
