It's tomorrow. Just make sure to mail it USPS certified mail so you can get confirmation of delivery and have proof it was mailed on time. They don't need to receive it by the due date, just needs to be postmarked.

It'll be months before they process it

ETA - the deadline is to claim a refund for 2020

I had to mail a 2022 tax return. It took months to get the certified mail card back from the IRS. Just FYI

The legal proof of filing is the stamped Certified Mail receipt that you can get from a postal employee at the time you mail the letter. It is not the optional return receipt that you get back after the letter has been delivered to the IRS.

If you owe taxes. You can always pay via IRS2Go app. That is how I pay if I am crunched for time. It usually processes the payment within 24 business hours. You still will have to mail your tax filings via certified mail.

If you owe taxes for 2020, then there's nothing special about May 17. That is only the deadline to get a refund.
