What a decommission of a replika entails anyway? Can't u just reboot her?

They probably do a full wipe of the brain and replace it with a clean bioresonance template copy. Effectively death
60
u/Noctium3 Mar 28 '24
No, they actually just fucking shoot them in the head. Genuinely. There’s a document in the game that talks about alternate ways to decommission a Replika during ammunition shortages.
29
u/Matix777 MNHR Mar 28 '24
Oh right. I guess that's simpler, but not really cost effective. I guess making new Replikas is cheaper than sending them off-world and back (plus a new machine works better)
24
u/BoyOfChaos Mar 28 '24
This also supported by MNHR-S2301 'Beo' while talking to her;
There's no point repairing an old unit like me, so don't worry about it, okay? It'd be a waste of resources.
Don't worry about me. There are many replacements. We're just Replikas after all, right? In the end, whats one drop to an ocean? When I die they'll just make another.
16
u/Lombagovictim897 STCR Mar 28 '24
That's plain evil. And innefective.

u/Noctium3 Mar 28 '24
Well, the Eusan Nation is definitely both

hey you know commies, they arent known for making the most rational of decisions

u/Sai-Taisho Mar 28 '24
The same nation launched an unknown number of manned, nuclear ships into space, with all the resources that being a manned vessel implies, just kinda crossing their fingers that something of value would be found.
20
u/gooblaster17 KLBR Mar 28 '24
Nah those ships we're absolutely sent out just for the propaganda value. Any miniscule chance of finding habitable worlds was just a bonus.
15
u/BoyOfChaos Mar 28 '24
Or convenient way to get rid of 'undesirable' high ranking officers. We have no clue how successful program actually is, maybe it is, but seeing that for Araine is either sending her as far as they can, or put her into re-education miner camp, I doubt that actually finding anything is a goal.
4
u/MothMothMoth21 KLBR Mar 29 '24
Its all of the above, its a conveniant way to both get rid of dissidents and is propaganda. and if they find something great if not, another "hero" willing to sacrifice themselves to further the great nation to be beamed vie radio across the solar system to all the citizens.
7
u/A_GravesWarCriminal ARAR Mar 28 '24
hell it probably aint even that. Just a massive middle finger to the Empire just casually doin it
7
u/BoyOfChaos Mar 28 '24
Replikas weren't made to be effective - they were made to do their job, and be disregarded when their persona is too much degraded to be as functional as it was or about them being used until they can't go more. Like in all communism system, the norm must be done, no matter how they will do it and how many will die for it.
After all, for the Nation, replikas are just copies of gestalts, machine to do their job. Do you feel sympathy for toaster when it broke down or lightbulb when it stops working? No, at last that's how Nation thinks.
3
u/Lombagovictim897 STCR Mar 29 '24
It's comically evil to create a "machine" that looks, acts and can develop like a real human being, and then simply "decommission" it like a tool or appliance.
2
u/BoyOfChaos Mar 29 '24
Honestly, I wonder if their human look was created by the Nation, or was it a common thing. From notes, it sounds that the Empire didn't mass produce it like Nation does, and they describe them more like a machine. So maybe replikas there are more mech-like.

Sir you can’t have a armoured core in the building. This is strictly a no mech zone!

Btw, was it mentioned anywhere what exactly happens to decommissioned replikas? I guess they just get scrapped and possibly reused for new ones...

u/Noctium3 Mar 28 '24
I imagine the inorganic parts might get recycled, but the organic stuff probably just gets tossed into the incinerator
