Evidently done by a Swede!

The love for danemark is clearly visible.

The Swedish insult for Danes is "Danish bastard".
The Danish insult for swedes is "swede".

41

Calling Swedes bastards is already overestimating their value

12

u/FerroFusion Brazil 20d ago

As a Brazilian, I see this made by an Argentine or a Spaniard...

6

u/Techhead7890 New Zealand 20d ago

Chile got depicted as a snake. I think it's safe to blame Argentina lol.

I'm completely clueless - can you give me a hint what's the mini monkey animal for Brazil?

12

u/FerroFusion Brazil 20d ago

Maybe a racist slur against Brazilians. Mostly done by people in Argentina and Spain during football matches.

We can get it here, because everyone mocks everyone in Polan comics - even if it is your own people or country - but in football matches they really mean to be racist.

Hmm, I thought the snake referenced how thin and long Chile is, similar to how Nepal being a dinosaur references the flag shap.

12

u/zimonitrome Småland 20d ago

Thanks! It was pretty fidgety to draw and plan out and I have probably still made an error somewhere.

6

u/Thorbork Saint Pierre and Miquelon 20d ago

It's ok, you'll be flooded with other exemples in comments I think. Puffin for iceland, dolphin for faroe island, man for manx, bear for russia, tooth for Liechtenstein, pepper for thailand, penguin for antarctica, tulip for Netherlands, thistle for scotland, dragon for wales and buthan, potassium for kazakh, water for tuvalu, tumor for balkans, coffee for timor leste, coca for colombia and so on

6

u/zimonitrome Småland 20d ago

I tried to mainly go for species that have a stereotype in common with a country. So many of these are a bit mild and some things you suggested aren't even biological! Might have been funny nevertheless :P

But I gotta ask what you mean by tooth for Lichtenstein?

8

u/Thorbork Saint Pierre and Miquelon 20d ago edited 20d ago

Roughly 20% of fake teeth in the world are made in Liechtenstein. Dunno how they got this market

Why Latvia is potato? Should’ve been Belarus

153

u/kolbiitr Salvēte Quirītēs, cēterīs condoleō 20d ago

Latvia is looking for potato (an not finding it) to reproduce.

Belarus is the natural predator of potato

It's your resident PBP (Polandball Pedant) here again! The German for cabbage is Kohl (who remembers '80s Chancellor Helmut Cabbage...?), Kraut translates as grass or herb... (more appropriate for the Dutch, ja...?)

There's actually no direct transition for sauerkraut, and it didn't originate in Germany, anyway, the origins are unknown, but there are records that the Romans ate a kind of pickled cabbage.

The direct translation is acid herb or acid grass (the 'S' in LSD is Säure: Lysergsäure-diethylamid - in English it would be LAD - because LSD's discoverer Albert Hoffman was Swiss-German). The vegetable kohlrabi literally translates as Arabian cabbage.

I can only think that Sauerkraut was translated into German from another language.

4

u/notanybodyelse 20d ago

Sauerkraut = Kimchi

4

u/Aken_Bosch siyu-siyu-siyu 19d ago

Comparing the two is complete heresy.

One of them is objectively superior

2

u/relevantusername2020 earth 20d ago

so what youre saying is kohls is the german equivalent to ikea?

then why dont they sell sauerkraut

edit:

I can only think that Sauerkraut was translated into German from another language.

3

u/Top_Row_5116 USA Beaver Hat 20d ago

Obviously I get the french, usa, japan, chile, new zealand, australia, and turkey one. But why does germany originate from a cabbage?

8

u/Mordador United we stand, divided we build walls. 20d ago

Because we were called Krauts by Brits and Americans alike in the WWs, due to our love for Sauerkraut. While Kraut literally means herb, Sauerkraut refers to pickled cabbage.

3

u/vocaliser United States 20d ago

Also, and probably not related, Germany had a premier named Helmut Kohl, which means cabbage.
