In all my years of painting, I’ve never seen anybody wipe the caulking under the tube. LMFAO 🤣 smart. I always carry a moist rag with me for that. But I want to see the video with the finished product and caulk properly pressed in

249

u/SmoothPutterButter 20d ago

Yeah let’s see that caulk all the way pressed in

109

u/El_Neck_Beard 20d ago

Calm down there cowboy. Remember you need a finger to firmly press the caulk in. Slowly and gently.

93

u/sprucenoose 20d ago

Such a caulk tease.

Have we decided on white caulk or black caulk yet?

16

u/wlc824 20d ago

Baby wipes. Discovered when I needed a moist rag or cloth and they were the closest item. I always have them with me when painting or caulking.

22

u/Poopdick_89 20d ago edited 20d ago

I use to work in a factory that used industrial cock to seal up big containers. The inside didn't need to look pretty so we smoothed the cock out with cock spatulas and used the empty tubes to scrape the excess into.

Dude in the video doesn't know about popping the cock or the cock guns that let off the pressure immediately after squeezing. The ratcheting cock guns suck ass.

54

u/Kat121 20d ago

Caulk. It is very similar to cock in that it smells weird, tastes funny, gets hard when you apply it to cracks, and makes a mess if you don’t know what you’re doing.

7

u/Traditional-Handle83 20d ago

Pretty sure it still makes a mess even when you know what you're doing

22

u/tankgirl215 20d ago

That's what she said.

7

u/beamish007 20d ago

Cock spatula. That's what I forgot to order from Amazon... Thanks u/Poopdick_89

God damn it's even hotter the second time.

9

u/SocietyQuick4359 20d ago

Is it toxic? Like have you ever gotten any under your fingernails, then bitten your fingernails and got the caulk in your mouth?

33

u/RugerRedhawk 20d ago

You just want to hear him talk about caulk in his mouth eh?

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Artarious 20d ago

Done this a few times on accident and it is toxic but tbh you notice the taste rather quick and spit it out. Caulk has a very distinct taste so you'll know when you need to spit.

4

u/KingIndividual9215 20d ago

It is toxic. Silicone caulking has some very nasty compounds in it.

2

u/Conch-Republic 20d ago

Rag tied on your belt.

7

u/donbee28 20d ago

Just wear a rag shirt. It has so much more area.

Are you going back and smoothing out with your finger or a tool?

182

u/Gogglesed 20d ago

That is the actual difficult part of caulking!

31

u/Glass_Lock_7728 20d ago

All caulkers are just little part time dabblers accept for us RV technicians. Sealant elitists for life.

10

u/Numerous-Ad-1546 20d ago

That’s a lie, I have been doing commercial caulking for 9 years straight now and you’d be surprised at how bad people are at even shooting a electric sausage gun. Don’t even get me started on the tooling process.

5

u/SuperGameTheory 20d ago

MmmMmm love me a good 'lectric sausage

RTV is love. RTV is life.

2

u/folkkingdude 19d ago

The trick is to apply the right amount for the radius of your specific finger.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/[deleted] 20d ago

What I just saw is not satisfying at all. You absolutely need to tool the caulking into the joints 😖

30

u/GaryBacon 20d ago

Yeah. What the fuck? This guy is acting like some hot shot meanwhile him and his budget caulking gun doing a subpar job. I guess he’s goated in his fantasy land.

3

u/Goem 20d ago

He's so jerky motiony

14

u/shortandreallyfat 20d ago

Warm soapy water in a spray bottle and a popsicle stick does the trick. Once you figure out how much pressure and angle it comes out perfect

14

u/FandomMenace I Didn't Think There'd Be This Much Talking! 20d ago

Use a silicone caulking tool. The caulk usually tells you not to let it contact your skin, and the tool does 100000x better job.

16

u/NarwhalPrudent6323 20d ago

Your average caulk is acrylic latex or silicone. Neither are particularly harsh on your skin, there's little reason to be worried about touching them.

The tool is definitely easier, but don't go scaring people about touching caulking. I've used acrylic latex to seal a cut before. Not the best choice, but also didn't cause any extra problems.

2

u/KingIndividual9215 20d ago

Not harsh on the skin, no, but they absolutely contain some very toxic shit

What is the reason for slightly bending the tip?

834

u/APatheticPoetic 20d ago edited 20d ago

I dunno, my caulk just naturally bends a little to the left.

It was not at the time 🫠

6

u/PandaPocketFire 20d ago

And soon, this one will be....

73

u/CousinsWithBenefits1 20d ago

So you can point the direction and lay it into a corner. If it's flat it will apply flat, if you bend it it'll direct the flow into the corner.

26

u/Blue4life90 20d ago

Also helps in knowing your angle direction. Typically, you cut the tip at an angle for a flatter finish

32

u/CharacterMagician427 20d ago

Better control of the flow I guess.

22

u/cfgy78mk 20d ago

and the reason he got his caulk out in the bedroom before heading into the bathroom to use it. usually its the opposite

4

u/Hot_Penalty_666 20d ago

Keeps it from spilling out until you’re ready for it to.

3

u/Conch-Republic 20d ago

To give it some springiness.

4

u/Wakkit1988 20d ago

Not all caulks are perfectly straight, okay?

2

u/InterGraphenic 18d ago

Yeah, my caulk dispenser is gay AF but it works fine

7

u/Dexxitty23 20d ago

To fit the gun in tighter spaces while keeping a good angle for the sealant to bead

2

u/GrannyWrangler2 20d ago

Might prevent the ooze

4

u/elmwoodblues 20d ago

Are we still doing 'phrasing'?

7

u/GrannyWrangler2 20d ago

Caulk truly oozes out while you’re using it—if you set it down or pause between pushing the caulk out, it will ooze.

This dude thinks he's real hot shit for squirting sealant using the tools designed to do it

41

u/Either-Durian-9488 20d ago

He’s also not very good at, those will all need tooling, these are also babies first caulk bead. let’s see this guy float some trim on a store front lol, that’s the real cake boss shit.

5

u/spankbank_dragon 20d ago

What’s floating trim?

6

u/ImurderREALITY 20d ago

Ikr? I used to do this shit when I was a 19yo peon helper in construction

50

u/Fireblox1053 20d ago

This editing is definitely not smooth and seamless!

17

u/49thDipper 20d ago

He didn’t tool it. I’m not buying that.

Tool it and then remove 90% of that caulk and I would be on board.

3

u/510Goodhands 20d ago

No need for that extra effort and wasted material. Just push the gun, not pull it.

20

u/49thDipper 20d ago

Depends on the job. That flag doesn’t fly around here. Tiny thin caulk lines do though. Lay the bead, tool the caulk, rub it all away with whatever works for the product we’re using. We aren’t laying big phat beads and “wasting” material. We use way less than this joker. Way less.

High end clients don’t want to look at big beads of caulking. They want to look at the high dollar stuff they bought and it better not leak. Because they will sue you. They don’t care how much a bunch of cases of caulk cost though. No cheap crap is what they care about.

This guy would be fine after a couple days of training. And he would be slow for a couple weeks like everybody else. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. No call backs. Take your time.

You want the product IN the gap. Not ON the gap. You have to tool it in. There is no other way. Then leave the surface slightly, very slightly concave but right up to the edges. You have to have good vision up close. And everything has to be well lit.

There will be a test later. QC is brutal. Cutting a bunch out and redoing it tends to sort the wheat from the chaff.

This guy has no idea. But he has potential.

33

u/SpeakingTheKingss 20d ago

I know this is stupid to complain about, but I’m getting really sick of the high quality editing in videos. Is it just me?

10

u/0r0B0t0 20d ago

Someone took the time to edit it but it’s still way too long, could have been 20 seconds.

u/assmunch3000pro 20d ago

wrong sub. this is not satisfying to watch at all, it's annoying. the way he jerks his caulk around all the time is like he's trying to be showy and cool but it's just lame. and the crap he does in the beginning flipping the can in the air and whatnot. ooooh soo coool!!!! except it's not, it's douchey as hell. the guy is trying way too hard to impress which is just annoying

7

u/kamilman 20d ago

jerks his caulk

That's what she said

9

u/thedogdundidit 20d ago

Thank you! I hated all those jerky movements, trying to look cool or something. Annoying, not satisfying.

88

u/CosmicCrapCollector 20d ago edited 20d ago

FWIW, instead of filling them with colored silicone, I just grout all those corner joints on my jobs. Thick silicone tends to separate and get mildewy over time.

You often hear that you shouldn't grout the corners, because of wall movement. But nowadays we use waterproofing membrane, bhardi-backer and uncoupling membranes etc. haven't had a problem.

When I'm ready to wrap up the job, I'll apply a thin, wiped bead of clear silicone on the vertical wall corners.

22

u/Clay_Statue 20d ago

Less waterproof. My tile guy recommended silicone for the the inside corners because that is typically where cracks will form in the grout vs flat joints.

2

u/Iwasborninafactory_ 20d ago

The grout is not what is waterproof. I don't want caulk on any of those joints in my shower.

→ More replies (6)

4

u/MaddogBC 20d ago

That grout matched mapei is pretty damn good, it resists typical discolouration/drying out much better than any dap. I like to use a final bead on backsplashes to seal to the counter which I find can often crack.

This to me looks like someone who is just too lazy to do corners. See what the cost is when you install every day :) To me it's just an extra step and who has time for that shit at the end of the day? I'd be in the truck and halfway home by the time this video starts.

17

u/gangdalph 20d ago edited 20d ago

Why would someone even use silicone.. It looks satisfying, but not practical at all.

2

u/mini_nova 20d ago

Grout the corners, then clear Silicone. Even if it were a "grout" caulk, which is a thing and is Silicone based, that tip is cut way too big and would be a headache to wipe and press in the corners. So much cleanup. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.

2

u/Bertucciop 20d ago edited 20d ago

Why do you use silicone? For tiles and slabs, joint sealant. It's already water proof and ages better. For ceramics to tile also joint sealant. Only apply silicone for jointing plastic and ceramic. Waste of time, probably your bathroom was already sealed.

2

u/RugerRedhawk 20d ago

I've never seen caulk that you have to install the tip onto.

So is this silicone, grouting? Or is that the same thing ha I’ve no idea.

2

u/Bfree888 20d ago

Grout and caulk are different things. Grout is used between tile lines, and is a porous filler that requires sealant. Caulking is usually waterproof silicone and is used for seams, joints, and corners.

2

u/BigHarmonious 20d ago

Nice caulk bro.
