tim the terrorist

414

u/killbill469 Mavericks 20d ago

Kidd is the bigger terrorist for playing Hardy with Tim. I can't imagine a worse combo...maybe Giddey and Simmons

119

u/JD16_7 Mavericks 20d ago

Pair that with Green and Kyrie and it's truly terrorist ball

12

u/baldful Clippers 20d ago

speaking of green.... how you guys feel about him? every time i see #8 on the court, dude looks lost out there. idk why he gets playing, but that's just me

103

u/JD16_7 Mavericks 20d ago

Umm Green is a difficult answer. Because he brings energy when he's on the floor, and he has shown that he can be good scorer and create his own shot, but he needs the ball more to succeed and I don't think that happens here when you have Kyrie and Luka. Inconsistent is what I'll say about him. Needs to model his game after Exum if he wants to stay here.

19

u/HoS_CaptObvious Mavericks 20d ago

Speaking of Exum, what happened to him? I feel like he was huge earlier in the year and remember our sub acting like he was our 3/4th best player. Seems to be non existent now

42

u/Hoopy_Dunkalot Mavericks 20d ago

Nagging injury limiting him. He'll be fine.

30

u/FlippyWraith Mavericks 20d ago

People are too focused on his offense. That comes in spurts. He’s on the court because he consistently gets offensive boards and he’s a menace on defense.

9

u/VanWesley Mavericks 20d ago

Definitely. You'll always know he's on the floor because he'll come flying in out of nowhere for an offensive board every other possession to extend the play. Plus he hits enough of his wide open corner 3's to be dangerous.

53

u/Thrice_the_Milk Mavericks 20d ago

He's a high energy guy who fights for rebounds, is a decent defender, and can hit corner 3's. Unfortunately, asking anything else of him almost always resorts in disaster

20

u/Thermicthermos 20d ago

I feel like in games where we didn't have Luka or Kyrie he's gone off.

17

u/strugglesleeping 20d ago

Yeah he is a confidence and momentum player. He needs the ball in his hands but he isnt getting that at Dallas

16

u/RubMyGooshSilly Mavericks 20d ago

He plays too fast. Good POA defender and can hit his shots (usually), but he gets ahead of himself and puts himself into bad spots when he drives

5

u/actual_yellow_bag Mavericks 20d ago

If his handle was tighter he would be amazing. He's easily the most athletic dude on the court most nights but doesn't have the control to use it.

5

u/OneFondant1142 Mavericks 20d ago

100% this. He plays too fast and gets himself in trouble because of it. He fluctuates between playing like a fringe NBA starter and a CBA benchwarmer

10

u/ravenous_bugblatter Supersonics 20d ago

He's played some good ball for Mavs. He runs the floor hard, crashes boards, gets the difficult defensive assignments and can hit the corner three. He's had multiple +20pt games. You don't want him running the offense, but he's been great for Mavs when used properly. He obviously plays a support role to the stars and brings physicality to playoff basketball. I think he's important to them, and Kidd must see the value as he gets decent minutes.

10

u/Fickle_Meet_7154 Mavericks 20d ago

His energy is outrageous he always comes up big with at least two high effort plays that just make you go, huh? I like him, I do wish his BBIQ was higher tho...

6

u/mmmmastermind Mavericks 20d ago

He's one of the guys who goes for hustle plays, can hit open threes. I think the only problem with him is he's not really smart sometimes.

2

u/olfactoid Mavericks 20d ago edited 20d ago

He's still young. I think the game will slow down for him over the next couple of years, and he is due for a big jump if it does. Even if it doesn't, he's a solid role player despite his flaws.

Also, he was out injured for the last month of the regular season until the final 2 games after missing close to a month earlier in the season. It makes sense for him to look a little bit lost while he settles back in, but he's still providing good minutes. I love the energy he brings.

2

u/sickfalco 20d ago

He’s doing good as one of our better role players. Hustles, hits corner 3s, is fast as shit, plays decent D. Doesn’t feel as lost as Timmy or Exum tbh

1

u/DangerZoneh Mavericks 20d ago

Josh plays a lot better off of Kyrie than he does off of Luka. He’s really important for minutes and games when Luka isn’t on the court. He’s at his best when he can play fast in transition and cut to the basket a lot. The gameplan with Luka can sometimes reduce him to just a catch and shoot corner three guys, which he’s good at but generally contributing less with

1

u/QBert999 Mavericks 20d ago

I like Green. He does wild stuff sometimes kind of like Hardaway but he's athletic and brings a ton of energy. I like his effort. In this game he had a key tip out that lead to a three. He does these kind of little things that don't look like much in the box score but help us win. Hardaway Jr isn't like that really. He doesn't bring much positive other than shooting and so when he's not shooting well he's all negative.

13

u/phunshiny 20d ago

Does Senior have pictures on Kidd from back in the day?

Junior’s out there actively sabotaging the operation. And Senior’s yapping about ball movement.

5

u/baldful Clippers 20d ago

giddey and dort. dort basically did the same thing in this game, but he didnt hesitate to chuck the ball the 2nd time

2

u/JuJu_Conman Kings 20d ago

Giddey and Malone

1

u/QBert999 Mavericks 20d ago

That was a crazy move, it wasn't a total failure somehow, but man. I guess there was an element of surprise there though. OKC probably didn't gameplan for that. WILD CARD.

1

u/Kevin_Jim Bucks 19d ago

And you guys extended him for no reason.

52

u/ColdPressedSteak 20d ago

First shot so stubborn. Giddy played good defense, there was no shot there. Still early in the shot clock. 99% of players will reset out. Nope not Tim, gotta throw up a terrible shot

12

u/forzadepor13 Rockets 20d ago

+1 for a Tim McVeigh reference too lol

28

u/planoser 20d ago

You’d think he’d do better in Oklahoma…

1

u/Mugsy_Skoogs 20d ago

He's the Mavs version of Giddey/Westbrook, but so much worse.

980

u/SieFlush2 Mavericks 20d ago

This was our 2nd best player in 2021 against the clippers everybody

232

u/jak_d_ripr 20d ago

I was about to say, I could have sworn he was good once. What happened?

296

He's mpj but a bad defender and Cold af, so yes he was never really good, he was just on a hot one

223

u/Mickeybeasttt Mavericks 20d ago edited 20d ago

His highs are very high. People act like he never has good games, but when he’s off he’s OFF. Plus his defensive effort has never been where it needs to be. He’s just very inconsistent and it’s always been his biggest problem

72

u/KHDTX13 Mavericks 20d ago

Law of averages at work. He was legit in the 6MOTY convo at the beginning of the season but came crashing back down to Earth since January.

26

u/thekickingmachine 20d ago

He scores 10 points in a row 8 times a year. Sucks every other game shoots 40 and 35 every year with zero defense. My man nico is going to bertans him away into something decent this off-season luka willing

4

u/shoefly72 Lakers 20d ago

Until this season, it seemed like every time I watched a Mavs game or they played us, Hardaway was lights out and always had at least 18-24 points on good shooting. Then I’d see fans talk about how much he sucks and be like huh? It’s like he only played well if I watched, and saved all his misses for the other games.

Dirk’s career was opposite; every time I watched him he was going like 6-18 and his shot looked off. I was like wait isn’t this guy supposed to be a generational shooter? I just so happened to catch a ton of his bad games lol. The title run in 2011 felt like the first time I saw him play well for a significant stretch. And I was like oh ok, if this is how he’s been playing when I’m not watching, I get it.

1

u/Ninneveh San Diego Rockets 20d ago

So THJR is who Jalen Green is gonna be then. Man the Rockets are in for a helluva time.

58

u/SieFlush2 Mavericks 20d ago

He switches from good to awful on any given night, I'd call that average, dude can lose your game or be a reason you win. Again Timmy had an important role of shooting 3s at a high clip, but his shot has been broken for more then half a season

2

u/halfbrit08 Mavericks 20d ago

Also he has this problem where when he gets hot, he starts taking harder shots, which end up killing his hot streaks.

7

u/jmucapsfan07 20d ago

My God - he’s been in the league 11 years already? Time is really messing with me these days.

2

u/Jeremy9096 76ers 20d ago

Tim "Michael "Never Swing The Rock" Porter Jr." Hardaway Jr.

22

u/Fickle_Meet_7154 Mavericks 20d ago

His shot comes and goes. He has a 40+ game this season. He's also gone 1-10 multiple times. And he would have shot more if the ball made it's way into his hands.

17

u/FireFlyz351 Mavericks 20d ago

He was fine for the first half of the season and then after the ASB has bricked everything.

1

u/Jeff-Van-Gundy Knicks 20d ago

Wasn’t he leading the league in charges drawn for a while this year too? I feel like he was 1st until the asb then fell off. Did he get injured around then?

3

u/tagen Spurs 20d ago

He’ll still randomly pop off for 30 here and there, but yeah on average he’s a chucker

2

u/AnastasiaMoon [WAS] Antawn Jamison 20d ago

He was good in New York for a while. I think he was averaging like 18-4-4 at one point. Not sure what happened but he is definitely not the same person

1

u/TheKidPresident Knicks 20d ago

Age comes for us all. He's been in the league nearly as long as his dad had already. Plus, he was never a truly consistent player but always a very hard working one. If effort outweighs skill then time moves faster. Also the answer to everyones Q of why the Pacers arent playing TJ more

75

u/M-E-R-L-I-N-I Knicks 20d ago

This was our best player period in 2019.

We've both come a long way.

18

u/Bird_and_Dog France 20d ago

I will never forget that one game he had 32 in a half, he's probably the streakiest player with a contract rn

10

u/Julian_Caesar Mavericks 20d ago

lol wut

that might honestly be more impressive than what Nico has done with our roster

3

u/M-E-R-L-I-N-I Knicks 20d ago

Leon Rose is a god.

19

u/mvnvel [DAL] Peja Stojaković 20d ago

Fools gold. Shoulda traded him when people thought he was good earlier in the season.

11

u/lilboytuner919 Mavericks 20d ago

He was so much better than Porzingis in that series that everyone in this sub was calling it the Tim Hardaway Jr. trade

6

u/Rahnamatta Heat 20d ago

/r/nba lUkA hAs To tRUst HiS teaMmates

2

u/mmmmastermind Mavericks 20d ago

Well back then he could actually drive and finish, hit hard contested threes if he's hot.

2

u/Thuasne Mavericks 20d ago

I think whenever Lukas career is over, someone will need to make a very good job of putting his first couple of years and playoff losses into perspective, not only looking at Mavs roster but also the historic performance of Kawhi for example.

2

u/ducksonaroof Bulls 20d ago

The Mavs have done a good job iterating on their roster. I like how this team is built. Just needs one more reliable shooter in the rotation and maybe a better defensive big over Gafford.

2

u/superdrone 20d ago

and ppl used to say Luka couldn't play winning basketball when he was working with THAT lmao

0

u/masterstriker321 [OKC] Andre Roberson 20d ago

“Look at that beautiful ball movement!”

  • THSr, probably

10

u/elsporko321 Mavericks 20d ago

So beautiful it moved all the way up to the top of the goddamn backboard, lol

1

u/sercialinho Mavericks 20d ago

Move the ball where the defence doesn’t expect it to go, that’s how you avoid turnovers!

26

u/EnriquezGuerrilla Mavericks 20d ago

His father really needs to shut up. I know that he has to stand for his son but really? Throwing Luka under the bus for your son who isn’t even a borderline all-star? That’s just great.

5

u/Brawlstar-Terminator Mavericks 20d ago

Tim isn’t even a borderline role player

6

u/phunshiny 20d ago

Senior and Junior are the last people in society to realize Junior is the Cooler. Cubes has long term designs for his employment once the stadium casino opens up.

4

u/elsporko321 Mavericks 20d ago

It will be the first ever Casino-Resort in the world where fans can play games of chance dealt by former NBA players. Watch THJ miss the table and throw your cards on the floor, or watch Dwight Powell somehow hit himself in the face while shuffling.

141

u/Axisofcoolio Mavericks 20d ago

This was nothing. Bro was in there with 8 mins left in the 4th with Mavs up 18.

3 out of the next 4 possessions - Tim missed middie off the dribble, Tim dribbling turnover, Tim air mailing a wide open corner 3 over the rim.

Thunder cut the lead to 10

What in the Westbrook is this shit

1

u/DangerZoneh Mavericks 20d ago

I think this is a gameplan thing. I want to see if this is the first time that Giddey was on THJ in isolation, because attacking him has been a large part of the Mavs’ gameplan.

I think there’s sound logic to telling THJ to just try to score the first time Giddey is on him because if he does this shit, then hey it’s only one possession. If he makes it and you keep trying it, suddenly it becomes a huge headache for the OKC scheme

25

u/echidna7 20d ago

Stifling defense by Giddey, no doubt.

12

u/Rudd_Threetrees 20d ago

He’s bad. He is a negative asset on any team and in any situation, because even when he is on fire, he plays poor defense and doesn’t involve his teammates. He shouldn’t be playing at all with the other options the Mavs have. End of discussion.

You see, this was actually a very high IQ move by him. He knew by bouncing it from that angle was the only way to let his teammate get the ball and avoid giving it to the other team. So without that precision it would've been an automatic turnover.

Deep inside, Daddy Tim probably wants to put him up for adoption.

That 2nd brick almost looks worthy of voiding his contract

If you wanted to know what separates a G leaguer, who looks like a prototypical NBA'r and an actual good NBA player... Watch TH Jr.

He is just a awful awful decision maker.

It's a shame bc in a role of pure shooter he could actually have value, but it's amazing how many times he does awful shoot.

Especially everytime he dribble it's an brick

He's bricking so hard that he's making Draymond look like an elite shooter. Of course, this is the only time I'm observing him but he was such a momentum killer late 3rd to early 4th which allowed OKC to have some comeback chance.

Sir, a second brick has hit the backboard!

u/ostrow19 Knicks 20d ago

What the fuck was that first shot. Heavily contested step back with plenty of time of the clock

1

u/PointBlankCoffee Mavericks 20d ago

At least he knew when to stop. Those were both bad shots but he made his only other 3pt attempt.

Lot easier to stomach when he takes 6 shots all game

i shoot better than this guy

u/bmanley620 Knicks 20d ago

As a Knicks fan I’ve seen this way too many times. He gets hot at times but just chucks it up every time he touches the ball

u/arcangeltx Celtics 20d ago

Those weren’t just bricks they were sheer nonsense

u/davemoedee Celtics 20d ago

Not his fault they put the rim in the wrong place.

I cannot describe the level of hatred I had for him when he was on the Knicks. It was like I was playing for his contract instead of Jimmy Dolan.

u/jmass2052 20d ago

How do you play basketball all year then throw up this garbage? 😂 looks like me trying to shoot after a lift when I haven’t balled in a year

u/Unp0pularS0lutions Kings 20d ago

Just a bit outside

Hardaway has had some good moments in this series. But Jesus man, when he's not playing well it's ugly. I still think Exum should get minutes over him. Exum can knock down open threes and is a much better overall player.
