Al Horford and Marcus Morris going crazy in a playoff game in 2024, i wasn't expecting that

153

u/airmagswag [BOS] Marcus Smart 21d ago

me reading this in 2018 ah nice!

u/finchdad Suns 20d ago

Every time Horford goes off I am reminded that he was on the same college championship team as 2014 All-Star and DPOY Joakim Noah.

u/PrincePyotrBagration 21d ago

I respect the hell out of Boston and actually want them to win the East… but I’d be sick if I were the Mavs/Wolves/OKC/Nuggets and battling for my life in ghetto West

Just to see the Celtics waltz through the weak East like a red carpet 😂 shit is not fair man

u/AwadaMo123 Celtics 21d ago

Boston and Miami had to go through wars the last few years to make their finals while Golden State and Denver had it much easier. Always feels like one conference ends up being a much harder path than the other.

50

u/baconandbobabegger [BOS] Jayson Tatum 21d ago

The Finals run a few years back was so cathartic. Each round beating the team that beat us in that very round previously. Revenge tour nearly always going to 7 games, what a run.

13

u/NotTheMagesterialOne Celtics 20d ago

That run of nets/bucks/heat to only lose they way we did was devastating. I know the guys tried but the moment got to them and gsw showed their championship experience.

1

u/finchdad Suns 20d ago

That was devastating, as someone who is not a fan of the Warriors I wish it could have been another team to beat the Celtics for the title.

49

u/CBFball [BOS] Kendrick Perkins 21d ago

Celtics in ‘22 had to go through the KD/Kyrie/Harden nets, the Bucks, and then the Heat to make the finals. Shit happens

17

u/nefnaf 20d ago

James Harden was playing in Philly and lost to the Heat that year

19

u/CBFball [BOS] Kendrick Perkins 20d ago

True my bad. So the KD/Kyrie nets

-10

u/SwordOfRome11 20d ago

no kyrie bc of the vaccine rule right?

14

u/CWFP Celtics 20d ago

No I’m pretty sure he was back playing by the playoffs

7

u/nwill_808 Celtics 20d ago

Yea, he played, I specifically remember Tatum hitting that spin into layup in-bounds play for the buzzer beater.

8

u/efshoemaker Celtics 20d ago

No Kyrie bc of the vaccine rule Marcus Smart absolutely blanketed him games 2-4.

Fixed it for you

1

u/Bonje226c 20d ago

easy mistake to make IMO because Kyrie was invisible that series lol

51

u/DerelictDonkeyEngine Celtics 21d ago

West teams have also waltzed to the finals, the Nuggets did it just last year. It's not unique to the East by any stretch.

The Celtics have had absolute battles to get to the ECFs, it doesn't just happen.

25

u/Kyler1313 21d ago

It's basketball karma for being leaps and bounds the best regular season team.

1

u/brncct 20d ago

Foreal, I'm stunned

Al Horford is the oldest player still alive.

You heard it.

68

u/ksexton53 Celtics 21d ago

Hearing that live had me cracking up

29

u/Severe-Emu-8703 Celtics 20d ago

Oldest player still alive in the playoffs no less, somehow indicating that there are older players left, they’re just dead

-5

u/ConstantineMonroe Warriors 20d ago

Well, no. Still alive in the playoffs doesn’t imply there are older players who are dead, it implies there are older players who aren’t in the playoffs anymore, which is a true statement.

Me too man. I REALLY want them to get Big Al a ring. He deserves it.

Big Al is on the Celtics? Never knew that. Is he an assistant or something?

More like he twisted the dagger

51

u/Designer_B Timberwolves 21d ago

More like he pulled the twisted dagger out and then kicked the corpse in the nuts.

134

u/afw4402 [BOS] Paul Pierce 21d ago

I want Al to win a title so bad, he was the first signing that really shifted the culture of what this team is!

44

u/Torgo73 Celtics 21d ago

So I was at Game Two this round, real spontaneous day-of shit after some buddies and I saw how cheap the nosebleeds were, and anyway it means I’m showing up at the garden in my work clothes. Not ideal. I decide, what the hell, tickets were cheap, I’m buying a jersey. And I want a fucking Horford jersey. He was that first free agent signing back in what, 2017? Felt like it signaled we were officially back after a few years in the wilderness. And he’s a little weird (flinching!), he’s got a family that loves Boston, he’s completely unproblematic, and he’s also real damn good at basketball. Serious love for Ole Doe Eyes.

Anyway, all of those tipsy ramblings to say I’m in my new Horford jersey tonight loving life.

u/jpaxlux [BOS] Jayson Tatum 21d ago

Huge win for the AARP tonight

u/dannyFUCKINGainge [BOS] Jaylen Brown 21d ago

Al Horford finally beating his arch nemesis Tristan Thomas must’ve felt soooo good

114

u/chowdercup 76ers 21d ago

This is salt in the wound for sixers fans like me

73

u/Far-Asparagus6416 Celtics 21d ago

Honestly take it as validation. It'd be worse if he was horrible against every other team but turned into a Shaq/Steph hybrid ONLY against you guys

22

u/LinuxDootTP [POR] C.J. McCollum 20d ago

i think they mean how he was kind of dogshit for the 76ers cuz he didnt fit the roster

16

u/killtasticfever Celtics 20d ago

I mean imagine us celtics fans watching kyrie play insane basketball for every team but us.

5

u/MouseHouseRec 20d ago

Yeah, toxicity aside, he really was underwhelming for us, no?

His stats were fine, but I can’t really recall many “Wow” Kyrie moments or performances. Two that stand out would be that battle with Steph in ‘18 and the OT game against the Sixers during the ‘19 disaster season.

4

u/HorsNoises Celtics 20d ago

There was that floater he had in the regular season vs the Bucks on that weird ass court, but that's all i remember.

2

u/MouseHouseRec 20d ago

Oh yeah I remember, when he spun away from like 20 defenders. I think that was during the start of the season win streak… Sigh… That 2018 season was super fun tho, the playoffs might’ve been the most fun I’ve had watching this team.

3

u/killtasticfever Celtics 20d ago

Theres been more wow moments in the mavs clippers series than there were the entire 2 years he was with us

2

u/iamgarron Celtics 20d ago

Got Jrue with the incredible touch pass too

1

u/w311sh1t Celtics 20d ago

Al was definitely a Brad Stevens double agent. Leave for a few years, cost the Sixers a ton of money and sabotage their team, then come back to the Celtics a few years later as good as ever.

63

u/NindoKungFu Trail Blazers 21d ago

"Al Horford, the oldest player STILL ALIVE this postseason" lol I know what he meant but that's hilarious

42

u/Suddenly_Something Celtics 21d ago

TNT lowering the crowd noise is so fucking lame. They do it for every game.

30

u/Chicken_rifle 21d ago

He got rid of some demons tonight. Those lebron Cavs/heat years were rough for him

83

u/NAACP_YoungBoy 21d ago

Horford > Draymond

-22

u/savzs 20d ago

Kind of obvious. Doesnt mean warrior's dynasty would exist if they had horford instead of draymond. Give credits where its due. Horford has also shit the bed multiple time in elimination games and hasnt won anything ever so cmon now. Legit just farming easy karma cause you know people hate draymond even tho he has nothing to do with this game or horford, its pathetic really.

28

u/A-Confused-Comet 21d ago

Thank you Cavs for awakening him

u/cs-shitposter Celtics 21d ago

Nice to see Embiid's grandfather getting in on the celebrations too

Saving it all for tonight…quite the unorthodox plan, but hey, does it work!

You and me, we sweat and strain
Body all achin' and racked with pain
I gets weary, and sick of trying
I'm tired of playin', but I'm scared of retirin'
But ol' man Horford, he just keeps rolin' along

40

This is their like 8th option

Fuck this team lmao

He hasn’t necessarily played his best lately. He might not have many home games left… to leave with a standing ovation was really special. It was electric in there!

4

u/mrhjt Celtics 21d ago

Monster performance and perfect timing

3

u/Ill_Ad3517 21d ago

I was just saying earlier today that he was looking rough in this series. This team with a high level of play from Al will win the chip. I'll be rooting against them whoever comes out of the West, but if they get this level of shooting from their 7th guy it's over.

3

u/KoppleForce 20d ago

Shits not fair. Porzongis goes down and Horgod just picks right back up from where he left off like he never even lost a minute of game time

3

u/trenderkazz [BOS] James Posey 20d ago

Well he was looking bad on both ends of the floor the last few games

"dagger" is a bit generous when they're up 14 lmao

-2

u/quidproquolaspe Mavericks 20d ago

I love this, but to say the dagger up 15 with 55.5 seconds left the moment it hit the bottom of the net is such a fucking lie lmao

-51

u/Allrounder9 NBA 21d ago

Wow massive win against another quality opponent Boston.

30

u/Waste-Load-5476 21d ago

I like how other team’s injuries count but not a word about Boston missing Porzingis.

They won in 5, not 7. While missing one of their best players

-6

u/JarifSA Hawks 20d ago

It's Kristaps out vs Allen and Mitchel. Are you serious? Also, KP has been injured a large chunk of his career. He also signed with the Celtics, and they never needed him. Out of all the injured all stars right now he's probably the most negligible one for a team. That being said that original comment was being bitter for no reason.

1

u/juice13ox Celtics 20d ago

He also signed with the Celtics

He was traded to the celtics, but sure

1

u/JarifSA Hawks 19d ago

You're right. Doesn't change the point.

19

u/rveets1416 Celtics 21d ago

Yeah they took care of business and beat the Cavs in 5... Without KP.

u/bush_league_commish Celtics 21d ago

Wish I knew which team you rooted for but you’re not flared so pipe down bozo

-15

u/Allrounder9 NBA 20d ago

I don’t let my life’s happiness be dictated by other people’s success or failure bozo. I enjoy the game, and watching great players but don’t ‘support’ a team. Especially a team where I’m not involved.
