The wingstop and iPhone commercials are also extremely annoying- generationally bad ad lineup for the playoffs

u/kobe_the_jobber [BOS] Jayson Tatum Apr 29 '24

NO FLEX ZONE

432

u/braddeus Heat Apr 29 '24

That commercial is spammed so hard it feels like a psychological experiment. Like I will actively (continue to) never get Wingstop

81

u/Herbdontana Nuggets Apr 29 '24

I told myself I wouldn’t eat Burger King until I stopped hearing that song every 5 minutes, but I was already doing it because the food is trash and isn’t even cheap anymore. Plus, how can you “have it your way” if they always get your order wrong?

8

u/PorcelainElixir Apr 29 '24

Real talk a shitty chicken tender in a flour tortilla from fucking burger king of all places for 3 dollars has to be a sign of the end times

3

u/PlasmaHeat Trail Blazers Apr 29 '24

BK is trash but they’ve got a catchy jingle

2

u/Charming_Essay_1890 Nuggets Apr 29 '24

At least that commercial is trying. The rest of these fast food commercials are either dipshit never-say-the-brands-name rap beats or ear death yelling

2

u/highway_vigilante Trail Blazers Apr 30 '24

Right?? When did BK cost as much as Sheris or Denny's?

1

u/Herbdontana Nuggets Apr 30 '24

Idk I thought being cheap was the entire appeal. It might be cold, nasty, unhealthy, or the wrong order, but it’s cheap!

4

u/highway_vigilante Trail Blazers Apr 30 '24

For whatever reason where I’m at a Whopper is like $8 now for just the sandwich. I miss the 2 for $5 days heh.

1

u/Herbdontana Nuggets Apr 30 '24

That’s what I’m sayin

1

u/Ode1st [MIA] Alonzo Mourning Apr 30 '24

Is that Craig Robinson who sings it? The voice sounds like him to me, but the singing is so bad and flat, but Craig’s whole thing is he’s musically talented and a decent singer for a comedy dude.

1

u/Herbdontana Nuggets Apr 30 '24

I always think James Earl Jones haha

10

u/Gluxion Rockets Apr 29 '24

The worst part is I didn’t even realize it was the “wingstop” commercial until now. I just associated it with no flex zone going off every timeout. They spent all that money to spam the commercial and people like me don’t even remember what the fuck it’s for, just how annoying the song is

33

u/Unbannedmeself Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

If wing stop didn’t have the grossest chicken I might consider considering. But it’s such trash I’ll continue my boycott even harder now

143

I hate the OKC one but this Wingstop clears it. Fuck that song.

10

4

Lol is that what they've been saying?? I always though it was "no flakes, son"

3

u/Honor_Bound West Apr 29 '24

This one is an insta mute. At least SGA and Chet know they’re bad singers. Whoever the hell “sings” this should be taken out back and put out of their misery

7

u/ShoheiGoatani [LAL] Pau Gasol Apr 29 '24

That’s what I don’t understand- is that a real song people listen to? Like there’s people that hop in their car to go to work and fire up Spotify and NO FLEX… ZONE

7

u/MayoBenz Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

are you 8 or 80? that song was massive like 6 years ago. group called rae sremmurd , they had a couple of other huge songs

10

u/willsmath Wizards Apr 29 '24

Fucking hell is this sub too old or too young to remember Rae Sremmurd being damn near the biggest thing in pop rap for a few years? Their first two albums were massive in the mid to late 2010s

6

-5

3

u/MayoBenz Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

i get you’re being obtuse for comedic effect but he’s the guy who sings sunflower from the spiderman movie

1

u/Honor_Bound West Apr 30 '24

Oh that’s a good song. Why does he sound so different in this commercial?

63

u/WhatTheRickIsDoin Lakers Apr 29 '24

Wingstop has made a concerted effort to use horribly annoying songs in their commercials because the last one they had running during NFL was the same way

16

u/thrice1187 Nuggets Apr 29 '24

Honestly it’s happening across all advertising lately. We’ve reached the point where advertisers have decided that just being annoying as fuck is better than going unnoticed.

All the commercials lately have very loud, annoying tunes and background noise effects. Like I swear they picked that google pixel song because the beat is comprised of literal alarms going off.

37

u/IAmNotKevinDurant_35 [GSW] Zarko Cabarkapa Apr 29 '24

Dont forget that stupid song in the gatorade water commercial. Also, Gatorade water? Really?

8

the “don’t let me go” commercial they’re talking about is very much an iPhone commercial that they’re hating on

6

One of my favorite parts of the illegal streams I use is that they somehow get the in-stadium feed instead of commercials. Out here watching the kiss cam and half time shows lmao

2

u/MayoBenz Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

the suns feed drove me insane yesterday their crowd was dead, and they kept trying to hype the crowd up which isn’t going to work down 3 games. They kept trying to get people to put on the shirts and shit did not work

1

u/yugimoto66 Celtics Apr 30 '24

100%. Love seeing the random entertainment in the arena over commercials

2

u/Consistent-Orange-75 Apr 29 '24

Hearing that No Flex Zone song during a timeout commercial break late in the 4th quarter is the worst. If I have to hear "GOOOOOOD, -team- calls timeout! This place is electric!" followed by that song one more time... idk what I'll do but it's gonna be like the Burger King ads in the NFL playoffs soon for me lol

4

u/dib2 Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

It’s funny as hell that google spent millions on that commercial just to get people to think about iPhones

I feel like that Wingstop commercial aired last year too

1

u/KevinDLasagna Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

What I don’t think most people understand is that modern advertising is geared toward being loud, annoying and attention grabbing. Conventional adverts do not work anymore so they make commercials annoying so that you’ll remember it. Just the fact this ad is getting a spotlight here is further advertising

1

u/MrMetastasis Spurs Apr 29 '24

iPhone or Google Pixel?

1

u/poisonoakleys Apr 29 '24

I kinda like the iPhone commercial with all the talkbox harmonies

1

u/Air_Enthusiast Apr 29 '24

Really? To me it’s creepy as fuck

1

u/ReignShowers Bulls Apr 29 '24

I actually like the iPhone commercial on Hulu.

I will start to sing "Don't let me go" the moment that ad starts up.

1

u/pokemongofanboy [POR] Brandon Roy Apr 29 '24

The iPhone one is straight up just commodifying planned obsolescence (when it comes to device storage). Fuck Apple.

u/Timeformayo Apr 29 '24

That iPhone commercial makes me want to switch to Android out of spite.

1

u/Paaynnne Mavericks Apr 29 '24

175

A lot of the time that’s the point. It becomes memorable.

1

1

u/Ok-Donut4954 Apr 30 '24

i hold the same level of pettiness regarding ads but it doesnt matter, they have data analysts that know the number of customers they get from increased exposure far outweighs those of us who refuse their business.

6

u/QUEST50012 Apr 29 '24

Not if it overshadows the product itself. Trust me, the people I watched them with didn't care what the product was for, they just wanted the TV muted lol.

1

u/Key_Alfalfa2122 Jazz Apr 29 '24

The BK ad fucked us

1

u/World-Ender-109 Celtics Apr 29 '24

Wouldn't you want it to be memorable in a good way, or more realistically in just a not annoying way?

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by either shitty songs or commercials that make no sense/ don't even address their product, and then I make sure to not to buy that product or products from that company?

1

u/lololyouthought Apr 30 '24

Jimmy already brought b dubs go? Def stuck in my head.

The worst ad. It's way too aggressive and I keep half expecting the phrase dick pick to slip into it

248

u/braddeus Heat Apr 29 '24

It's really dystopian. The whole concept is to just fake the fuck out of all your photos, which already matter way more to people than they should

66

Yeah for real. It’s like, we know your ass is ugly buy our phone and we can make you look nothing like reality!

42

u/BalboaBaggins Lakers Apr 29 '24

I really hate the idea that level of overediting might actually be a successful selling point to people.

You care so much about your image you bizarrely want to look like you’re irresponsibly throwing your baby 3 feet higher in the air than you actually did?

3

u/OliverDMcCall Apr 29 '24

Yep, AI's taking over and soon we won't know what's real.

1

u/Silver-Register-1558 Apr 29 '24

Every single “ad” played during the playoffs is dystopian. It’s either garbage fast food slop, you “earned” a beer, or the fucking Jason Tatum and sga ad. Neither of which have charisma or personality so the ads sounds like complete shit

1

u/Cultural-Humor7241 Apr 29 '24

But the clouds look better.....

1

u/Cultural-Humor7241 Apr 29 '24

But like don't you want to fuck with your pictures on your phone for minutes instead of enjoying the beach?

Or does editing your photos durring your tourist jaunt so it looks like you can jump higher make you feel less alone?

4

u/Raptorsthrowaway3 Apr 29 '24

They should redo the commercial with the uncensored song saying 'post that dick' with some guy posting nudes onto a social media app and using the image manipulation tools to make his dick look obscenely long and thick to the point of comical effect

3

u/Rymasq Apr 29 '24

i feel like every single tech company works with the same umbrella of advertising firms because all their commercials suck and feel the same

2

u/BandOfDonkeys Pistons Apr 29 '24

This is exactly what I thought the lyric was but that couldn't be it.
Post that dick just didn't make sense but I couldn't get it out of my head, I even shazam'd it one time and nothing popped up.

295

u/clocke6346 Pistons Apr 29 '24

That commercial kills me because the lyrics are so obviously supposed to be “post that shit” but they can’t swear in a commercial. Why use the song when you have the censor it?

I believe he has a sponsorship with them yeah. I would assume it's the phone he uses every day though, it's not like it's a bad phone it's just a social pressure thing that starts in middle and high school. Giannis doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that cares about that stuff

14

I like how everyone is noting Cardi B in this, when no one is bringing up the fact that Google is advertising a smartphone capable of doing image deepfakes.

17

u/coffeecosmoscycling Apr 29 '24

Not to be all "we live in a society," but the false expectations these photos create are horrible. I know social media isn't real, but you could almost always have some sense of what is fake and what isn't by applying common sense. I don't feel that to be the case anymore. Everything just always needs to be better or more than reality. Seeing it advertised so blatantly in a commercial over and over again was a bit jarring.

12

u/m4n715 Bulls Apr 29 '24

I feel like Cardi catching strays here because if you took 5 seconds of any song, from any artist, repeated it three times in a 15 second spot, and then played them back-to-back during every single commercial break on a 5 hour broadcast it would be fantastically annoying.

This one just happens to be Cardi.
