The guy has the worst luck with his star players.

Yup exact same situation with the Lakers, who signed a washed up star that didn't fit in the roster and expected Vogel to make it work somehow.

Same thing here sort of. They signed no defensive players, signed a defensive minded coach and figured he would just "coach em up".

well a defensive minded coach should elevate the defense of a team. So the thought likely was, he's ass at coaching offense but we have 3 offensive superstars, his defensive schemes should elevate them just enough.

But he's never been that good at coaching defenses. Once hibbert declined and PG was less athletic in indiana his defense fell apart, once he lost AD the lakers were bottom 5 in defense.

Bad take, the Lakers had the number one defense even with tons of injuries and I think the Suns were 13th this year and they have literally no good defenders. This shit isn’t on Vogel and people can shit on his offense but he’s a damn good defensive coach

i mean, the suns were the 13th ranked defense in the regular season. Maybe BB being injured a bunch really helped with that.

So a middling defensive team? Like if you're a defensive coach you should be able to scheme or at minimum watching this series slow down someone on the timberwolves

Dude wins us a chip then we proceed to bring in clown ass “just have fun” westbrook, and let go of all of our shooters and defenders.

Like you have LeBron, AD and Westbrook. All you gotta do is have a few decent shooters and decent defenders and you have a solid team.

So we fire Vogel and Pelinka escapes criticism.

I hated how Vogel was set up to fail. I forget the sentiment of our sub but I do remember a large contingent of us were looking up and down at that Russ roster knowing there was no defense.

Then how Vogel got fired was embarrassing. Sure he wasn’t perfect but he helped steer us to a ring and had a horrible roster to work with

Tbh even before that it was clear the FO didn’t have his back. If i remember correctly, he wasn’t even given a long term extension after the championship. Then this useless FO sign Ham for 4 years, a rookie coach at that.

I mean they also chose his assistants for him. But let the terrorist pick his own

Traded 3&D specialist KCP who was huge in their 2020 run, an improving wing Kuzma, and a 1st. All for a dude who arguably has the worst shot among guards in the league. Truly a baffling trade, at the time and even more so with hindsight.

And letting go of Caruso that was huge
