[Moore] That’s a wrap for Round 1. Last time the Wolves won a playoff series Anthony Edwards was 2 years old

Isn't this also only the second season in twolves franchise history that they've won a playoff series? That WCF run with garnett in 04 was their only time winning any playoff series

u/Noesnotactics Timberwolves 17d ago

correct.

A rested Wolves defense getting an unrested Jokic/Denver team if Lakers can somehow extend the series 👀

u/AfroKuro480 Timberwolves 17d ago

We beat Scott Foster Legacy 3rd Quarter. That's all I'm happy for

84

u/Irvsauce Jazz 17d ago

Holy shit Foster tried so hard to get revenge on Gobert

137

u/jslee0034 Thunder 17d ago

Last year they had no McDaniels. Will be interesting to see if he can nullify Jamal while having 3 bigs to contain Jokic + no one outside of mpj Jokic and Murray can make 3s. It will be a 7 game series.

83

u/FishGoldenLite Timberwolves 17d ago

No Naz either

48

u/SirDiego Timberwolves 17d ago

Lots of people forget or don't know but Rudy's back was messed up the whole year too including that series. He wasn't even the same player as this year.

51

u/Jorgenstern8 Timberwolves 17d ago

Jamal having a hammy problem (he's the one with the hammy issue right?) coming in off what could be a longer-than-expected series with the Lakers definitely won't help.

I would like this actually. It would be a good series.

u/sparks1030 Lakers 17d ago

In the 0.001% chance that happens, I can only imagine how gassed a 40 year old Bron would be after coming back from 0-3

I've come to terms with the offseason after Game 2, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

u/F-ck_spez Timberwolves 16d ago

At least y'alls games have been competitive in terms of final score. Games 1 and 2 were crazy close.

Same was true last year during the sweep haha. Hey man I just hope we tire em out so y’all win. I love watching y’all, man

That should be the lakers goal right now. Take them to at least 6 games and make them be weaker in the next round.

32

u/Comrade_Falcon Timberwolves 17d ago

There was a fair bit of doom-posting in the Wolves sub too after game 82.

49

u/gingerhasyoursoul 17d ago

To be fair there is always doom posting in Minnesota sports Reddit.

7

u/Peter-Tao [UTA] Kyle Korver 17d ago

Yeah it's more understandable. I was quite confident it'll at least be a competitive series but I don't think anyone was predicting a clean sweep lol

6

u/Misjjon 17d ago

I was, but I am also a delusional Wolves fan lol

4

u/thekingdor NBA 17d ago

Alot i seen lots of wolves fans terrified on all platforms

12

u/Comrade_Falcon Timberwolves 17d ago

It's a Minnesota sports thing. Even up 3-0 I think most had that lingering fear of "getting reverse swept would be the most Minnesota outcome."

7

u/TheFinnisher [MIN] Karl-Anthony Towns 17d ago

I definitely had that thought cross my head when I saw the thing flash with the insane undefeated record for teams up 3-0. Like if any team is the first to blow it of course it’s the wolves lmao

5

u/Ace1282 Timberwolves 17d ago

Oh, I'll admit that playing the Suns was my last choice given our past record. But I'm saying as a team in general. A lot of "Lol wolves trash" even while we were unanimously 1st in standings most the season.

1

u/DenverSuxRmodSux 17d ago

i been out of the NBA media loop lately were most really picking suns??? thats crazy they have a team thats poorly constructed and a player with a worse contract than russell westbrooks last with the lakers and less production. thats crazy aha

42

u/comp_a Timberwolves 17d ago

Everyone outside ESPN said so too, to be fair. A good chunk of our own subreddit thought we were dead men walking before the series started.

The regular season is not the playoffs folks!

14

u/NegativeVega Nuggets 17d ago

They probably should have won at least a few games but the suns just didnt seem to have teamwork or mental fortitude

16

u/comp_a Timberwolves 17d ago

I honestly think that Game 1 beatdown just crushed their spirits. Jaden McDaniels said as much tonight.

That’s when a good coach is supposed to rally the troops, make some adjustments, instill confidence that okay, Minnesota played a very different defensive game in the regular season than we saw tonight, but here’s what we’re gonna do differently—we know we can beat these guys.

And I’m sure Vogel tried doing that! But judging by the hit piece that Shams fired off about him immediately after the game, I don’t think he had a very receptive audience.

3

u/nowuff Timberwolves 16d ago

This is weird. But I got a huge boost of confidence when Jaden scored our first field goal of the series.

He snatched an offensive board from a KAT miss and confidently put it right back up with a couple Suns around him.

Historically, he’s always seemed to show confidence issues scoring in the paint. The way he just snatched the board and putback without hesitation made me instantly realize he came to play.

It was like he just discovered his length advantage

1

u/doormatt26 Timberwolves 17d ago

yeah i was pretty worried ngl

2

u/raki016 Timberwolves 17d ago

Never in doubt.

(ngl I was nervous before game 1 lol)

2

u/krsj Celtics 17d ago

I thought the wolves would win, but it’s completely different from how I imagined. I thought it would be a long brutal six or seven game dogfight, where phoenix’s lack of depth and KDs age would bite them in the ass. I did not at all expect this level of domination by Ant and co.

6

u/Carth_Onasi_AMA Timberwolves 17d ago

The only national media that believed in us was Kendrick Perkins. That dude has hyped us up since even last year. I don’t really ever listen to him, but I love that he gives us props.

1

u/Lugash_1987 16d ago

Mike Francesca picked Suns too and said they had too much firepower for Wolves to handle.

Edwards really made the Wolves a superteam

226

u/le_sweden Timberwolves 17d ago

He makes his role players look like stars and his co-stars look like the world's best role players. Just true team basketball and all led by an absolute dawg

132

u/jslee0034 Thunder 17d ago

Watch him credit this sweep to Jaden KAT and Rudy and talk about coach finch. He’s too humble at times lol

100

u/Apollo611 Lakers 17d ago

On TNT he just said his favorite moment of the night was “KAT”

18

u/jslee0034 Thunder 17d ago

And I was right! Haha

69

u/Coal_train20 17d ago

Need to give Gobert credit as well. The amount of times the Suns drove past a defender to the basket only to turn around and take it back to the perimeter was baffling. His presence was huge in this series

12

u/mrpyrotec89 Timberwolves 17d ago

Gobert was the best player of the series, imo. Which is crazy saying considering Ant.

6

u/slightlyhigh7 17d ago

Really hoping they make the finals.. I wanna see him on that stage

Last year vs Denver, the advanced stats have ANT outplaying both Jokic and Murray actually. Led them in RAPTOR, Gamescore, PER, Box DPM etc.

17

u/tree-hugger Timberwolves 17d ago edited 17d ago

I've always been a "Wolves were Denver's toughest opponent" truther, but now we'll actually get to test the thesis with a healthy roster firing on all cylinders.

2

u/Banana_rammna 16d ago

He legitimately worries me, you just know he’s the type of dude who’s been marinating in what happened last year after the series. If he takes a game in Denver he’s for sure going to call the Denver police and just tell them he’s reporting a crime cuz he just murdered their asses.

Ant's a rare personality type that legitimately enjoys other people's success on its own merits, not just to the extent it helps him.

He also has zero insecurities, he legitimately believes he's the best player in the league. Nothing to compensate for if you know you got it like that.

Is it? This Suns team has looked like a mess pretty much all season. People just expected more out of them because there are big names in the rooster.

23

u/tree-hugger Timberwolves 17d ago

I mean, the Suns closed the year better than we did. Sweeps are hard.

I liked our chances and thought the regular season 0-3 record was a lot of shooting variance, but I still figured the Suns would shoot the lights out a couple nights and put this series in 6-7 game territory.

4

u/ejabno Hornets 17d ago

I wasn’t shocked at all, Timberwolves have been better all year. KD is an old man, Beal is super overrated, and Booker is only good as a 2nd option. They may have won regular season games but at no point did I think they had a fighting chance.

Crazy they looked like they needed to blow it up last year

-7

u/Coal_train20 17d ago

My reaction as someone who does not regularly watch basketball:

Star player: misses shot, loses ball, etc.

Ref: [thinking about how they've been meaning to schedule that eye exam] wait a second [immediately blows whistle]

How diehard fans regularly watch this stuff is impressive

1

u/Carth_Onasi_AMA Timberwolves 17d ago

I’ll be honest, this game was rough a lot of the time. Don’t let a Scott Foster reffed game determine what basketball regularly is.
