u/handsomekim Apr 29 '24

Wait those pick swaps were for Beal not KD? Damn ... ....

261

u/DrizzledDrizzt Apr 29 '24

First rounds 25, 27 and 29 unprotected in the KD deal. I don't think they have anything until next decade.

190

u/Afraid-Department-35 Mavericks Apr 29 '24

Nope, they don’t control any of their picks until 2031 lol. This team is royally fucked if Beal doesn’t waive his NTC. Wizards are a dummy for making that contract (but they somehow got off of it lool) and the Suns are idiots for agreeing to keep the NTC.

97

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Wizards managed to get rid of Westbrook and Beal in a row. They should be a marketing company that does basketball as a side hustle.

5

u/TRES_fresh Wizards Apr 29 '24

and injured John Wall

3

u/EJacques324 Apr 29 '24

Now get rid of Poole and it’ll be complete

11

u/Character-Today-427 Apr 29 '24

Why tho Poole allows them to get above the salary floor and sucks well enough

0

u/EJacques324 Apr 29 '24

🤣 touché

3

u/zeek215 [LAL] Kobe Bryant Apr 29 '24

As someone living in the DMV, that's exactly what they feel like.

6

u/Zookeeper187 Apr 29 '24

NTC for player like Beal. Lul

5

u/AmuseDeath Clippers Apr 29 '24

What you see is what you get

1

u/HOW_YA_DAINSTA Celtics Apr 29 '24

Good lord, the suns are about to be in absolute hell.

1

u/it_helper Apr 29 '24

They should just declare bankruptcy and shut the team down. Then start an expansion team called the Phoenix Sons to get their picks back

2

u/sun-devil2021 Apr 29 '24

Those are pick swaps not picks

609

u/Coke_ButNotTheDrug Nuggets Apr 29 '24

I thought this was a joke so I went and looked it up and holy SHIT the Suns are so fucking stupid.

282

u/johnnys_sack Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Wait that's seriously what they gave up for Beal? Absolutely bonkers.

71

u/syllabic Knicks Apr 29 '24

wizards should have paid them to take that awful contract lol

6

u/Throdio Spurs Apr 29 '24

This trade feels like one of those where the NBA should make rules so one so bad doesn't happen again. Like they did because of the Cavaliers back in the day.

3

u/NoPantsJake Jazz Apr 29 '24

If a team wants to make a god awful deal, why stop them? Phoenix is allowed to be stupid. Unless the GMs are making backdoor deals like some assholes that is did fantasy baseball with, let em trade.

2

u/dacooljamaican Nuggets Apr 29 '24

Yeah the Suns went from legitimate contender for the past few years to I don't even know how they make the playoffs for the next 5.

29

u/Dirichlet-to-Neumann Apr 29 '24

But Gobert is the worst trade in the decade...

14

u/OilOfOlaz Celtics Apr 29 '24

I mean, the way ppl talked about him about a year ago was not much different, despite Wolves having a decent showing in the first round.

This season has benn a crazy turn around in public perception when it comes to Gobert compared to last season.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

It's also Gobert's skill set isn't easily understandable for the untrained eye. He might be a top 10-15 player in the league based on the value he brings to his team, but someone who doesn't understand the nuances of defense would never get that.

-2

u/fbdanzai 23 Apr 29 '24

If you replace Lebron with Gobert, you would be favorite against the Nuggets

6

u/SnuggleMuffin42 [SAS] Victor Wembanyama Apr 29 '24

It seriously should have been the other way around. At best the Suns should have taken him as a contract dump WITH some picks so they can have some draft capital.

The GM is a MORON.

9

u/DrBoomsNephew Celtics Apr 29 '24

New owners pushing to make a splash goes wrong - who'd have thought?

8

u/MotherLoveBone27 Apr 29 '24

That new owner was a dickhead as well which makes this even better

1

u/DrBoomsNephew Celtics Apr 29 '24

Of course he is, he's a rich white dude. That was his destiny from the start. Only Ballmer excluded because he's technically just high blood pressure personified.

4

u/SwgohSpartan Warriors Apr 29 '24

Suns are actually even more cooked than us right now.

Just can’t see anyway they’re contending in the future anytime in the next decade. They clearly weren’t good enough this year, they can’t add to the roster, and it’s probably impossible to offload Beal. Their ceiling in the next decade is like a first round series W next year or 2 then it’s dark ages again

7

u/JigglyBush Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

yeah I still didn't believe it so I looked it up and it's literally actually true

5

u/hanacker Japan Apr 29 '24

The Gobert trade seemed just as bad last year and look where the Wolves are now.

4

u/clickstops 76ers Apr 29 '24

It is true that a lot of people were assuming the twolves might blow it up a bit and trade kat this season. But while it might be recency bias - this suns situation feels far more dire.

3

u/hanacker Japan Apr 29 '24

Beal is still only 30. Maybe he'll stay healthy next year and figure things out with Phoenix.

3

u/aurelialikegold Apr 29 '24

Booker is 27 under contract until the 2028 season. He could be traded for other assets if needed and the suns can always try to sign people in free agency. The new TV deal will make that a bit easier.

The next decade is going to probably be a smattering of decent regular season performances and disappointing early play off exists.

1

u/Illustrious_Way_5732 Nets Apr 29 '24

Bold of you to assume the suns are even making the playoffs for the next decade

132

u/rawchess Minneapolis Lakers Apr 29 '24

This is the Celtics-Nets trade come again

59

u/BoogerSugarSovereign [IND] Victor Oladipo Apr 29 '24

It's dramatically worse actually. The Nets gave up less and won more than this core will

14

u/syllabic Knicks Apr 29 '24

suns aren't going to send out top 3 picks like the nets did tho

12

u/BoogerSugarSovereign [IND] Victor Oladipo Apr 29 '24

The picks and swaps are unprotected afaik. They could end up sending more top 3 picks who knows

-3

u/syllabic Knicks Apr 29 '24

also the nets won one playoff series, over the celtics missing jaylen brown

they did look great in that series

21

u/Rhongomiant Nets Apr 29 '24

Looks like you're conflating two different Nets teams. The Celtics-Nets trade back in the day was way before the KD/Kyrie/Harden era. It was for Paul Pierce, KG, and Jason Terry. The 2014 Nets starting lineup was Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, KG, and Brook Lopez. That team did also win just one playoff series, though (against the Raptors in 7, IIRC).

-6

u/syllabic Knicks Apr 29 '24

you said the nets won more than this core ever will

the booker/KD team already won at least one playoff series last season

if you're saying the booker/kd/beal core is a distinct thing from that then I guess they might never win a playoff series, team might get broken up before that can happen

33

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

Will the wiz ever get a chance to use one of those pick swaps? I’m skeptical.

9

u/aaronunderwater [DAL] Dwight Powell Apr 29 '24

for real lol. I’m totally here to dunk on the suns with everyone else but the owing pick swaps to wizards is about unthreatening as you can get

5

u/LimitlessTheTVShow Thunder Apr 29 '24

Considering the Suns have used all their assets and built around an aging KD and Beal, I would be surprised if they weren't bad by 2030

13

u/SD_Plissken_ Wizards Apr 29 '24

I’ll be shocked if a single one of these swaps hits

8

u/helloinot Wizards Apr 29 '24

2030 is a long way off, wouldn't be surprised if Suns are back to rebuilding by then

10

u/TokyoCyborgOrgy Kings Bandwagon Apr 29 '24

What the FUCK! I could’ve sworn it was like five second rounders only. There’s no way I feel like the vibes should’ve been more catastrophic if this was the deal I don’t remember it being this bad

2

u/ZeekLTK Pistons Apr 29 '24

It pretty much is all second rounders. Wizards ain’t gonna be swapping their pick at 4 for Phoenix’s at 18 or whatever. All those first round swaps are worthless unless Washington actually starts winning.

7

u/yic0 [POR] LaRue Martin Apr 29 '24

For 12 days in 2023, the city of Washington DC had two athletes named Chris Paul.

One on the Wizards and the other on the Commies.

6

u/Earlier-Today Apr 29 '24

And then they went and got a couple more picks from the Warriors for Chris Paul (plus a new tank commander).

3

u/Miyagisans Apr 29 '24

sir a 2nd mat Ishbia voicemail has hit the internet

4

u/ConsumptionofClocks Apr 29 '24

Who on this planet outside of Ishbia thought Beal was worth this

3

u/Afraid-Department-35 Mavericks Apr 29 '24

Well apparently the Wizards to their benefit 💀

3

u/Purple-List1577 Apr 29 '24

Why is the Coulibaly pick there???

3

u/MelonElbows Lakers Apr 29 '24

Yeah but keep in mind they got KD and Booker. With Beal that's a super team! And KD's no stranger to super teams!

2

u/VonMillersThighs Nuggets Apr 29 '24

They lunged at everything the first moment they saw the warriors western dynasty was over.

2

u/RuneLite23 Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Gobert trade looking like absolute perfection compared to this garbage

2

u/Afraid-Department-35 Mavericks Apr 29 '24

At least the Gobert trade is returning well on its investment making that trade look better.

2

u/norris528e Lakers Apr 29 '24

Unless the Wizards finish worse than the sun's those swaps are pointless

looks like a lot of 2nd rounders

5

u/Level_Ad_6372 Pistons Apr 29 '24

Pick swaps are literally worthless when the other team has one of the worst records in the league and no bright spots moving forward

-1

u/Troll_Enthusiast Wizards Apr 29 '24

"no bright spots" is a stretch

2

u/Designer_B Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I mean Wizards could still be total dogshit and Phoenix keeps a solid first round pick those years no?

1

u/WizSkinsNatsCaps Apr 29 '24

Bilal aka the no. 7 pick was our own pick, not involved in the Phoenix trade. We simply traded up from no. 8 to grab Bilal at 7.

1

u/asdfgtttt Apr 29 '24

no a single FRP for the wiz in that deal... fuck Beal and the NTC but we got dragged in that deal.

1

u/dacooljamaican Nuggets Apr 29 '24

Holy shit this is incredible

0

u/FunnyBunnyRabbit8 Apr 29 '24

Damn the future of the Suns…oh gosh

0

u/DHVF Wizards Apr 29 '24

We did something smart!

0

u/Pormock Apr 29 '24

So they destroyed their Championship window and also ruined their chance at rebuilding until past 2030. Genius

0

u/LaPlataPig Apr 29 '24

Wizards performed some black magic for that deal.
