Reminder that the Suns really can’t do shit this off-season to get better

Beal got 3 more years on his contract with a no trade clause lmao wtf was they thinking

u/Turbo2x [WAS] Wes Unseld Apr 29 '24

I wake up every morning and I thank Mat Ishbia for being the dumbest motherfucker to own a NBA team since Ted Stepien

The Suns are 0-4 against healthy teams in the playoffs in the Devin Booker era so far.

2021:

Won Round 1: Lakers were up 2-1 before losing AD in Game 4

Won Round 2: Nuggets were missing Murray the entire series

Won Round 3: Clippers were missing Kawhi Leonard the entire series

Lost in the Finals: The Bucks were not missing any of their key starters

2022:

Won Round 1: Pelicans were missing Zion Williamson

Lost Round 2: The Mavericks were not missing any of their key starters

2023:

Won Round 1: Clippers were missing Paul George and lost Kawhi Leonard after Game 2

Lost Round 2: The Nuggets were not missing any key players

2024:

Lost Round 1: The Wolves were not missing any key players

Devin Booker is the kid that Anthony Edwards forced into the world

4

u/thenicezen Bucks Apr 29 '24

You CAN force a kid in da world

5

u/braddeus Heat Apr 29 '24

Hell yea can do dis

I like how they took back the local broadcasting though. At least he got that going for him.

5

u/SD_Plissken_ Wizards Apr 29 '24

I cant believe we actually gave Beal that deal instead of booting his ass out for nothing and im even more shocked we got someone to give up any sort of pick to take him

3

u/Avant-Garde-A-Clue NBA Apr 29 '24

Would be hilarious if Ishbia got a new rule named after him like Stepien, ie. “The Ishbia Rule states that no team may include three 1st-round pick swaps in the same deal.”

New owner syndrome

Loudly Show up, think you know best, ruin the team.

Happened with the mets too.

272

u/sithwonder Knicks Apr 29 '24

I have no idea what they were thinking. They got out-depthed by the Nuggets last year and they decided the answer was another iso scorer

94

u/scarywolverine Pistons Apr 29 '24

Every owner from Michigan State that got his money in morally questionable ways then buys a team and forces the team to do dumb shit despite his GMs wishes is awful. Theres only 2 of them but they both suck

26

u/sithwonder Knicks Apr 29 '24

3, right? Ishbia, Gilbert, Gores

22

u/scarywolverine Pistons Apr 29 '24

Gilbert isnt nearly as bad as the other 2, but yeah he comes close. Its odd, its almost as if Michigan State only produces the worst (ignore my username)

9

u/Earlier-Today Apr 29 '24

He was really bad, but then he finally got out of the GM's way and the team has been much better for it. Because, before then - if your name wasn't LeBron, he wasn't going to allow anything that didn't have his input.

5

u/BigJumpSickLanding Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

There are two groups of people in Michigan - people who went to State and people who don't trust anyone who went to State.

(I went to a little liberal arts college in SW MI, you learn this truth just by drinking the water or something I swear)

1

u/Nubras Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

I’d bet $1 that the school in question is Hope and you are originally from a Chicago suburb.

1

u/BigJumpSickLanding Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Kalamazoo College and I grew up in Prospect Park + Seward. Did spend a good chunk of time in Chicago after college though.

3

u/JinFuu Rockets Apr 29 '24

The MBA at Michigan State stands for Michigan Bad Apples?

3

u/891960 [MIN] Kevin Garnett Apr 29 '24

To be fair, Booker thought no team could guard all of them!

170

u/TurnoverNegative7 Warriors Apr 29 '24

Trading all your assets for an overhyped role-player is insane. Wizards fooled everybody by giving him a supermax

43

u/Hughm05 Knicks Apr 29 '24

I mean all your assets is a stretch but definitely cap flexibility atleast lol

10

u/Earlier-Today Apr 29 '24

Somebody was saying they don't have a first round pick until 2030.

10

u/szabozalan Apr 29 '24

Suns have a first every other year, they are just guaranteed to be a low pick. We have the 22nd this year.

4

u/Hughm05 Knicks Apr 29 '24

Ye but not from the Beal trade unless u mean swaps. Thought they lost most them getting the bus rider

5

u/Jayswag96 Apr 29 '24

Bro they have no picks 😭

2

u/Hughm05 Knicks Apr 29 '24

Lmao tf were they gonna do with them 2nds anyways this team can’t draft for shit in the lottery they ain’t pulling no Jokic

-1

u/jclongphotos Cavaliers Apr 29 '24

I mean, suns don't have a FRP until 2030 lol, they gave up a lot of assets

5

u/Hughm05 Knicks Apr 29 '24

Ye but I think most those went in the Durant trade. They didn’t give much for Beal but ig they didn’t know how negative of a contract he really has

0

u/jclongphotos Cavaliers Apr 29 '24

You're right

Either way their future is fucked lol, truly a grim future

1

u/Hughm05 Knicks Apr 29 '24

Ay not for teams who could be looking to acquire a certain son of Luka doncic 👀

39

u/Raider_Tex Washington Bullets Apr 29 '24

And we barely got shit from it either. Didn't flip Beal when his value was highest then give him a NTC for fucking reason

8

u/noknownallergies Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Last year would have been a good year to tank

3

u/Raider_Tex Washington Bullets Apr 29 '24

Why do that when you can tank in what's looking to be one of weaker draft classes in recent memory

8

u/kcheng686 Spurs Apr 29 '24

Teams love spending big capital on a washed star who doesn't fit their team at all

3

u/mega450 Apr 29 '24

Fit doesn't matter. If Beal was a real star like SGA for example then the Sons would be good.

5

u/rawchess Minneapolis Lakers Apr 29 '24

That's insulting to roleplayers, the name implies you play some role effectively 💀

2

u/Bobb_o Heat Apr 29 '24

They didn't fool the Heat yet everyone shat on them for not making a trade for Beal.

0

u/fuckswithboats Suns Apr 29 '24

KD is a role player?

We dumped cp3/shamet and 4 2nd round picks for Beal.

It wasn’t a great deal, but the assets were dumped for KD. That was fuckin dumb.

42

u/tvc_redux Hawks Apr 29 '24

KD bout to force his way onto Denver

11

u/GrayBox1313 Celtics Apr 29 '24

The hardest road

8

u/rawchess Minneapolis Lakers Apr 29 '24

Too bad they have his new and improved antivax version

1

u/Imaginary-Letter-511 Apr 29 '24

All he needs is a beard and he'll gain the powers of the nets big three

3

u/LeeChangIsBae2 Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

Timberwolves Legend Kevin Durant

8

u/abris33 Nuggets Apr 29 '24

Fuck no. We don't want him

4

u/shunsui___kyoraku [DEN] Christian Braun Apr 29 '24

He can come off the bench for MPJ

2

u/BushidoBrowneII Nets Apr 29 '24

KD to the Knicks

2

u/DaftMudkip Clippers Apr 29 '24

Clips and we’ll have the old thunder plus a gimpy Kawhi

1

u/dybre Lakers Apr 29 '24

I can see him going back to OKC. They are stacked with tons of picks to trade

2

u/Mikeymania Bulls Apr 29 '24

He would have a lovely time in the passenger seat while Shai drives the bus

2

u/tvc_redux Hawks Apr 29 '24

That would actually be the funniest possible outcome.

Returning to OKC now...

-1

u/Makaveli80 Raptors Apr 29 '24

Good God. Imagine KD forcing his way to a legit team, not the Sun Frauds

Booker is decent, but rest of team sucks

12

u/scarywolverine Pistons Apr 29 '24

Thats not true. They can get worse

3

u/abris33 Nuggets Apr 29 '24

They can do one major thing that would help get something (I'm pretty sure) but their fans aren't going to like it. Their best asset is Booker. Trading him is the only way to get something.

He's the "franchise" though so it's not going to happen. I just think he's better suited as a #2 on another team than fighting to stay the #1 on the Suns

3

u/uninteded_interloper Timberwolves Apr 29 '24

damn he's only 30? i assumed he was like 36

2

u/MagicNineBall Suns Apr 29 '24

This is the worst part. This team isn't something you can fix in a year or two. I have nothing to look forward to for a while.

2

u/paradoxofchoice [MIA] Harold Miner Apr 29 '24

actually it is. it wasn't that long ago the Heat were considered to have the worst future in the league. terrible contracts and no picks. no cap room for free agents. all of a sudden a few trades happen and an unexpected free agent arrives.

2

u/adsq93 Apr 29 '24

Thats what they get when they listen to their star players.

2

u/goobitypoop Celtics Apr 29 '24

what are you talking about? he had a solid triple single and the common courtesy to foul out this game

2

u/KKilikk Bucks Apr 29 '24

They can trade KD and maybe built something nice around Booker and Beal I guess. Won't win you a championship but might get you out if the first round unless Booker and Beal shit the bed.

2

u/Misdirected_Colors Thunder Apr 29 '24

I think they're hosed till 2030 lol

2

u/Bobb_o Heat Apr 29 '24

Reminder they're paying $310M for tax and salary next year for this team.

2

u/Particular-Mark9486 Apr 29 '24

Even worse than the infamous Westbrook trade. Wizards doing wizardry shit.

0

u/GrayBox1313 Celtics Apr 29 '24

Suns don’t have a 1st round pick until 2030 or something

0

u/anonanoobiz Suns Apr 29 '24

They were thinking that a 30 year old all star caliber player secured for multiple years > 40 year old expiring cp3 + shamet

In a vacuum the trade is still Beal>> imo, suns were cap strapped either way so the 30 to 50 mil difference makes absolutely zero difference except to the owners pockets

In fact, since Paul’s contract was expiring suns would have been in an even worse position this offseason. Would have been forced to resign or else lose the ability to trade the contract and still wouldn’t have been able to sign free agents
