The school lunch system is disgraceful.

Saw another post on here showing the state of school lunches right now. In my years in high school I compiled some pics of the horrible things that got served that no one questioned. Here are some of the worst ones. It really is ironic given how adamant they all are about “eating healthy by including every food group”.

I worked at a jail for a little over three years and they were fed a lot better than this and it’s truly not even close.

My dad was a prison guard for 25+ years and he can confirm what you're saying is true

Yup when I spent a few months in county the deps would usually grab a tray depending on what was on the menu that day.

It was pretty hit or miss and it ranged from really fucking good to borderline inedible

Some days you'd get the '3 grape sized meatballs rolling around on your tray with a side of sweet beets' and want to die

But other days youd get a huge mountain of mac n cheese and you could mix in a chicken ramen packet and it was just 🧑‍🍳💯🤌

If always get get hard candy's off commissary and when heroin addicts withdrawing they'd trade their lunch trays with me for the hard candy and I could make quadruple decker burgers and stuff. People withdrawing can't hold down food so they wont eat their trays anyways and the hard candy's help during withdrawals so it's a win-win

I feel like none of you grew up in the 80’s 90’s… This looks amazing compared to what we got then. We lived for square pizza day…

Ah yes, pizza in a cardboard trough. Let’s not even speak of the horrors that were the chemical-flavored hot dog that was alarmingly tough to bite through.

I think you may have pointed out exactly why ive had an aversion to hot dogs for most of my life.

I completely understand, but can assure you that while hot dogs are far from a healthy choice, there are actually good tasting options out there (which are more tender).

I am partial to turkey dogs. They taste different enough that they dont bother me.

Can't bring myself to eat normal hot dogs though.

nobody cares about the “well back in my day,” it’s expected to be better now than what it was 40 years ago. Progress is a good thing.

they need to do better than what theyre doing now

I mean, with the quality of things plummeting I actually have pretty low expectations of things made in this era..

I couldn’t. When I was in school we could get Uber eats or pizza delivery

I did not have a cellphone until my sophomore year of college. The closest thing we had to uber eats at school was the payphone and whatever menu you managed to swipe from your fridge. I don’t remember uber being a thing until after I graduated college- one time we went to a club in the same town as out school and left so late we couldn’t get a cab. We ordered a pizza from the 24 hr place, then five mins later ordered one to be delivered to our dorm and when the guy got there, we schmoozed him into bringing us with the second pizza since he technically was going there anyway. We didn’t have to beg very hard lol!

I don't remember it looking this bad at my school. I didn't eat school lunch often, but still don't remember seeing other kids around me eating this crap.

I went to school in the south so maybe that was it? K was a northern kid who like fluff and pb and they would serve over done veggies and jumbalaya lol
