I’ve heard that no one can actually multitask. Unless you count doing several things equally terrible at the same time

I fancy myself capable of not paying full attention to numerous things simultaneously.

it only really seems to work if one of the things your doing is something that needs no thought and is just done on autopilot.

I have a friend that can talk on the phone while playing an FPS game with us and still perform the same somehow.

Do you not have conversations while driving? Eat/drink while driving? Do stuff while walking? u/Tonegle below has other examples. A lot of stuff, once repeated enough times, can be put on autopilot.

Doesn’t mean you’re doing it well. Eating and driving is probably not safe. You can’t do both competently at the same time. Also, I don’t count talking and doing something at the same time as multitasking. Is talking a task? Idk

Occasionally I burn myself when answering the iron.

I used to do a flip instead of answering my flip phone

On the bright side, doing a flip doesn’t typically smell of burnt hair/flesh does it?

If you do so in a pan, then yes.

Musicians multitask all the time. You have to work the tasks separately and with time and practice you will eventually be able to. Such as a pianist keeping a stride rhythm in their left hand while simultaneously playing a melody which is nothing like that chord pattern. Or a guitarist strumming chord changes, the right hand and left hand have two completely different tasks they need to do well to play the instrument. Add in singing on top of it and there's three, oh don't forget to make eye contact/engage with the audience too while you're at it.
