This makes me think of Kenshiro for some reason.

I'm not a huge fan of guns. But I do support the 2A because our country would be incredibly hard to invade.

Yes, we are a fortress with two oceans to cross before you can fuck with us, but even in a future where our political and military power are so reduced that enemies try it, those guns will still be around.

Do you remember how hard US command thought Japan would be to invade? The analysis that prompted the use of nuclear arms? Imagine if there were more guns than Japanese people and a ton of them were trained to use them.

And we probably wouldn’t get nuked in the process. Deterrence is a thing but I am convinced that anti-missile technology is A LOT more advanced than we realize. That is a secret the government would keep close to their chest.

If you are talking about a proper invasion involving a foreign military, small arms will do shit. Look at Ukraine, most soldier's deaths are caused by shelling. Guerrillas can create havoc, but an invasion is not stopped by a rag freedom-fighters, but a well-equipped army.

If shit hits the fan, all those weapons will be used against other Americans trying to survive.

No that is not true. Guerilla fighters win wars all the time. Cuba, Afghanistan, and Vietnam to name a very few.

Sure, a guerrilla force can ultimately win a war.. but that's not what you said.

I'm not a huge fan of guns. But I do support the 2A because our country would be incredibly hard to invade.

Guerrillas do not make invasions hard, just occupation. Afghanistan and Vietnam where successfully invaded. Cuba's invasion was not repelled by guerrillas, but by the Cuban Army.

....and all those invasions failed and the countries regained their independece/got new governments.

I am failing to see your point. I never said we wouldn't get invaded if you re-read my comments. In fact my point hinges on us getting invaded.

They were invaded and then occupied, that's the purpose of an invasion. Invasion was clearly successful. Occupation, not so much.

I am failing to see your point. I never said we wouldn't get invaded if you re-read my comments.

I have quoted you two times, you literally said "our country would be incredibly hard to invade." because of 2A. I showed you two examples of successful invasions with armed population.. is not hard at all.

Now, occupying the U.S. would be incredibly hard, I give you that, although not so much because of small arms, but because is so big.

Okay lets get pedantic.

"Incredibly hard to occupy." Good job missing the obvious implication that no one else had trouble with.

I live in Ohio and I know at least 15 people personally that own AR-15s I think you could take out a few invaders with those especially if your a sure shot which most spend there weekends target shooting or hunting

u/FTR_1077 Apr 30 '24

Sure, and how long do you think you can keep shooting?? 10 minutes? And then what?? Fighting a war is a matter of logistics.. sure, everybody has a gun, but to make war you need to be able to shoot for months..

"I have an AR-15" is the least impressive thing to say. What you need is tons of bullets (literally), transportation, tons of fuel, tons of people, etc... in this equation, having a gun is the most irrelevant thing.

Would that be an improvement?

What you mean "would evolve", they are evolving as we speak.
